## Trustees' report (continued) for the period ended 30 September 2020

## **The charity's objects - continued**

For the purpose of this clause 'socially excluded' means being excluded from society, or parts of society, as a result of one or more of the following factors: unemployment; financial hardship; loneliness and/or isolation; bereavement; youth or old age; ill health (physical or mental); substance abuse or dependency including alcohol and drugs; discrimination on the grounds of sex, race, disability, ethnic origin, religion, belief, creed, sexual orientation or gender re-assignment; poor educational or skills attainment; relationship and family breakdown; poor housing (that is housing that does not meet basic habitable standards); or crime (either as a victim of crime or as an offender rehabilitating into society).

## **The charity's main activities**

Activities on offer currently include: woodwork; horticultural/ gardening; fish management (Koi carp); games/ jigsaws; model making; arts and crafts; and singing.

## **Public benefit statement**

In setting our objectives and planning our activities our Trustees have given serious consideration to the Charity Commission’s general guidance on public benefit and, in particular, social inclusion, training and education, partnership working and community involvement; including working with schools and youth groups.

## **Achievements and performance**

Following our successful bid for a grant to purchase a new workshop, we have delivered training to members, schools, scouts and other community groups.

We have conducted two courses on spoon carving for the general public and our members. We have also been working closely with local community groups designing and making projects for them such as:

table and chairs designed for a disabled pre-school child; and a pair of gates for a local nursery.

Our largest and most noticeable project being the design and manufacture plus setting up of a full size set of figures for Remembrance Day 2019; consisting of stretcher bearers, returning soldiers from the front, ambulances, horses, pigeons and dogs.

We were put forward and won the Service Excellence Award for Collaboration and Partnership Working 2020.

Due to the onset of the pandemic we had to close down with the exception of maintenance and essential improvements. This led us to set up a library of jigsaws, books. kit models and DVDs which we were able to take out to isolating members to occupy them. We also produced a series of videos showing how to design and build woodworking projects.

## **Financial review**

The net receipts for the year was £1,868, including net payments of £267 on unrestricted funds and net receipts of £2,135 on restricted funds.

## **Reserves policy**

The charity does not have a reserves policy.

The trustees recognise that at the year end the CIO's unrestricted funds were negative by £267 and therefore it does not have any free reserves. To manage this the trustees have plans to increase unrestricted funds through product sales and membership income. Additionally, grant income is anticipated which will also be available to contribute to the core running costs of the CIO.

Signed on behalf of the board of trustees on 26/07/2021

Allan Clark (Trustee)
