From 02/03/2021 Period start date to 01/03/2022 Period end date

Charity name: Hamble Hedgehogs Rescue

Charity registration number: 1185442

Objectives and Activities

SORP reference
Summary of the purposes of
the charity as set out in its
governing document
Para 1.17 1. For the benefit of the public to further
the conservation and preservation of the
hedgehog species primarily but not
exclusively in the Southampton postcode
area.
2. For the benefit of the public to relieve
the suffering and distress of hedgehogs
in need of care and attention by providing
a rescue, care, and rehabilitation service
for sick, injured, or orphaned hedgehogs
with the aim of releasing such hedgehogs
back into the wild wherever possible.
3. To advance the education of the
public in the study of hedgehogs and in
the care, methods of treatment,
conservation, and habitat of hedgehogs.
Summary of the main
activities in relation to those
purposes for the public
benefit, in particular, the
activities, projects or services
identified in the accounts.
Para 1.17 and
1.19
We had a very tough year. Due to the
domino effects of the national lockdown
and later downturn in donations but
increase in admissions, we struggled to
get out into the public to undertake
fundraising activities or physical talks.
We did manage several ‘talks’ using
social media and zoom calls and
fundraise online offering lottery style
draws and competitions.
Statement confirming
whether the trustees have
had regard to the guidance
issued by the Charity
Commission on public
benefit
Para 1.18 We had no guidance issued about public
benefit.

Para 1.38 Due to the pandemic, we kept no
‘outside’ volunteers other than Kim
Mitchener used for minute taking and
secretarial duties due to the number of
hedgehogs we had admitted and
restrictions.
Other The charity continues to contribute to
research, and each trustee directly
involved in hedgehog care continues to
undergo regular training and partaking in
seminars with regards to hedgehog
welfare and rehabilitation.

Achievements and Performance

SORP reference
Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.
Para 1.20 Through our work, this year we have
saved two hundred and eight hedgehogs.
This lower number was due to having no
volunteers and being only able to admit
the number of hedgehogs we could
safely care for. We continued to run
education programs where we could but
due to pandemic restrictions, we could
only work within a certain scope.
We have arranged with other local
rescues to form a collective to cover a
wider ranging area and to further engage
the public to help save the humble
hedgehog. This also helps the public
when seeking aid with hedgehogs as we
can be a one stop information service to
advise on availability within rescues.
