The trustees have pleasure in presenting their report and the unaudited financial statements of the
organisation for the period ended 31 March 2024.
OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
The aims of the charity shall be to=
l. To provide a p13tfonn for deaf women in the UK to highlight issues, which
specifically affect deaf women. in particular but not exclusively by the provision of
infomiation, advocacy and sUp￿rt.
2. EncouragelemtK)wer deaf women to get involved in their communities to make a
difference
3. Enable deaf women to a¢￿sS information alK)Ut services pertinent to them with full
communication support.
4. Enhance th¢ lives of deaf women, through education, infornlation, and training but
within their context e.g. be mindful of their faithlculture requirements
5. Provide leaming opportunities for all deaf women and their familieslsupporters.

Chair Persons Report
am pleased to present ihis Financial Year End Report ending 31.3.2024. 1 would like to thank
the funders for their generosity and support. In particular. I would like to thank Garfield Weston
Foundation and Pilotlight for their support in developing our organisation wilh mentoring and
advice. A special mention to our donors including tkafinitely Theatre who has kindly fundrais¢d
£12,719 for Deaf-initely Women. This will go towards 5UPPOrting Deaf fewnale survivors of
Domestic and sexual violence.
Through financial support from Lloyds Bank Foundation and through diversifying our income
streams, we are pleased to see our reserves growing year on year ihus helping Deaf_initely
Women to become a more financial resilient organisation in an ec(frnomically unsettling time.
Thankfully we are in a good position lo be able to weather ihis.
would also like to ihank all our Trustees for their tlme and coinmitment to help Deaf-initely
Women to become strong, in temis of making sure the Board is as robust as it can be and
capitalising on all their skills. expertise, and experience.

l am sory to see R¢becca Hill, Emma Midg¢ley. Rachel Murray, and Sarah Tupling leave as their
project funding came to an end. I wish them all well in their future endeavours.
l am pleased to welcome Laurd Jeffers as our trdinee IDVA who has replaced Veronica Stewart.
Again, I wish Veronica all the very best for the future.
Last year I reported that Molly O'Brien had left our ¢mployment in May 2022 howevcr l ain
pleased lo welcome her back as a Board member along with further new memkrs to our board
Laua Driver and Niki John50n. Special thanks to Angela Guilfoyle (Tr¢asurer) for overseeing the

I hope you find this an inforniative report showcasing the difference ihat we have made in
ensuring that deaf women are:
living a life free from abuse and fear,
empowered to learn and improve their health and well-being in inclusive environments,
supported lo gain work skills and ex￿rIenCe. and
giyen a voice, to be heard and respected.
l am very proud of how deaf women have 5UPPOrted Deaf-initely Women over the past 12
month5, as Board members, staff members. freelance worker5, volunleers and 35 5crvice users
and participants. We are grateful for their commttment and 5UPPOrt thal they have given to
Deaf-initely Women. Collectively they have given us the vision and the ambition to drive this
organisation forward. Along with the Ix)ard and myself it is our strategic role lo ensure that
deaf women are involved at every level of decision making and service delivery. We are
certainly 'Stronger Together. by being inclusive for all women with hearing loss. Ddeaf and
Ddeaft>lind women.

The principal ac¢ounting policies adopted. judgements and key sources of estimation
uncertainty in the preparation of the financial statemcnts atr as follow5.'
Organisation informatioll
Deaf-lnilely Women's registered 0￿1¢¢ is Room 25, st￿tts Community Centre. Derby Road,
Belpv, DE56 1 UU. At the end of thc year there were 8 trustees.
1.1 Ac¢oullting convention
Th¢s¢ accounts have b¢¢n prepared in accordance with FRS 102, -The Financial Reporting
Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland" ("FRS 102"), "Accounting and
Reporting by Charities" the Statemenl of Recomm¢nded Prdclice for charilies applying FRS
102, the Companies Act 2006 and UK Generally Accepted Accounling Prnctice as it apples
from l January 2015. The organisatton is a Public Benefit Entity as defind by FRS 102.
The accounts are prepared in Sterling which is the functional currency of the organisation.
Monetary amounts in these financial statements to the nearest £.
The accounts have b¢en prepared on hislorical cost convention apart from freehold property
that is Ca￿led at market value. The prin¢ipal accounting policies adopted are set oui ￿lOW.
These are accounts for the period ended 31 March 2024 are prepared in accordance with FRS
102. The Financial Reporting Stsndard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland. The dale
of transition to FRS 102 was l April 2015. The impacl on the reported financial w)sition and
financial p¢rforniance for the previous year are not affected by th¢ transition lo FRS 102.
1.2 Going concern
At the time of approving the account% the Board have a reasonable ex￿CtatIon that the
organisatiom has adequate resources to continue in operational existen¢¢ for the fore5c¢abl¢
tvre. Thus the Board continue to adopt the going concern basis of accounting in preparing the
a¢¢ovnts.
1.3 Charilable Funds
Unr¢stricted funds available for us¢ at the discretion of the Board in furtherance of the
general objectives of the organisation.
Designated funds are unre5tri¢l¢d funds earniarked by the Board for particular purposes.
Restricted funds are subjected to ￿StriCtIonS on their expenditure imposed by the donor or
through the terms of an appeal.
1.4 Incoming resources
All incoming resour¢¢s are included in the SOFA when the organi5ation is legally entitled to
Ihe income and the amount ¢an be quantified with reasonable ac¢uracy. Gift5 in kind have been
includ¢d at market value of gifts received and in assets acquiffd. No amounts are included in
the financial statements for services donated by volunteers.

1.5 Resources expended
All expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been classified under headings
that aggregat¢ all Costs relating to the category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to
particular headings they have been allocated to activities on a basis consistenl with use of the
resources. Fund-raising costs are those incurred in seeking voluntary ¢ontribution5 and do not
includ¢ th¢ ¢osls oldisseminating infonnation in the support of the charitabl¢ activities.
1.6 Debtors
Trade and other debtors are r¢cognised at the settlement amount due aftcr any trade discounts
offered. Prepayments are valued at Ihe atnount prepaid net of any trnde discounts due.
1.7 Cash and cash equivalents
Cash and cash equivalcnts include cash in hand. deposits held at call with banks. other short
temi liquid investments with original maturilies of three months or les& and bank overdrafts.
Bank ov¢rdrafts are shown within EK)rrowings in current liabilities.
1.8 Credilors and provisions
Crcditor5 and provisions are recognised where the organisation has a present obligation
resulting from a past event that will probably result in th¢ transfer of funds to a third paty and
the ainount due to settl¢ the obligation can be measured or estimated reliably. Cr¢dilors and
provisions are norn)ally recognÈsed at their settlemenl amount after allowing for any trade
discounts due.
1.9 Financial instruments
Th¢ organisation ha5 financial assets and financial liabilities of a kind that qualify as basic
rinancial instruments. Basic financial instruments are initially recognised at transaction value
and subsequently measured at their settlement value.
Derecognilion offirtaneial liabililies
Financial liabilities are derecognised when the organisation's contractual obligations expire or
are discharged or cancclled.
1.10 Employee benefits
The Cost of any Ltnused holiday entitl¢ment 15 recognised in th¢ year in which the employee's
services are received.
Termination ￿nefits are recognised immediately as an expense when Ihe board is
demonstrdbly wmmitted to tenninate the employment of an employee or to provide
terniination benefits.

The organisation is exempt from tax on income and gains falling with section 505 of th¢ Taxes
Act 1988 or section 252 of the Taxation of Chargeable Gains Act 1992 to the extent thal Ihese
are applied to its charitable objects.

DESGNATED FUNDS
The fund is for training sessions that will b¢ delivered in July 2024.
RESTRICTED FUNDS
The National Community Lottery Fund - Deaf WomeD Taking Action for Themselves
project
This project started on 1.10.2021 and ends and 30.9.2024. The project enobles deaf women to
recruit and trnin volunteers and organise workshops. The project also SUPPOTls deaf woinen's
employability into work and other volunteering and edu¢alional opw)rtunities.
Arts Council
Deaf Gals Arty Party is an Arts and Crafts workshops project. This is due to end on 30.4.2024. We
have delivered 21 workshops during the life of the project.
Derbyshire Poliee and CriTne Commissioner- Deaf Abuse Free and Home Se¢urity service
We are fortunate that DPCC has conlinu¢d io fiind our Deaf Abuse Free servic¢ iyhich has seen a
metnber of staff becoming a qualifi¢d Doinestic Abusc Seniice Manager. The servi¢¢ aims to
support and educate deaf women alK)ul different types of abuse and to SUPFK)rt them to a¢¢ess abuse
services. The Krvice continues to work with a range of agencies to ensure that deaf women can
ac¢ess emergency and essential support. DPCC also funds our home security service to ensure deaf
women living in Derby and Derbyshire feels safe in their homes and wheii outdoors.
Sport England
Sport England is funding our Wild project that comes to an end on 31.10.2024. It pays for the
delivery of outdoor rdmblin& swimming. and yoga.
Skills for Care - Deaf-led Skills for Care Training P¥rtnership project
The courses are for deaf. deafi)lind. and hard of hearing employer￿UserS and their Pe￿Onal
Assistants to access free accredited tsainin8 on:

Taster BSL session
Taster Deathlind Manual
Communication and acquircd sensory loss
An overview on how to communicate and supw)rt dealblind people
Supix)rting and communicating with Deaf people with dementia.

NHS Derbyshire Community Health serYice- Sexual and Reproductive be2l¢h project
This project involved us delivering sexual he21th-based workshops to dealwomen living
in Derby and Derbyshire. The aims of the project were to:
improve accessibility for deafwomen to access their services, and
educate deaf women on theirsexual health.
Money S#ving Expert
The funder has enabled us to dcliver Financial Capability for deaf women through
provision of workshops. This project ended in May 2023.
Sign Health Charity
SHC funded D¢af-initely Women to help them to promote BSL 999 service in our
area. This proj¢¢l ended in September 2023.
NottiNgham5hire Poliee and Crime Commissioner- Deaf Abuse Free and

We are grateful that NPCC ¢ontinu¢s to fund Deaf Abus¢ Free service which has seen the
appointment of Veroni¢a Stewart and latterly Laurd Jeffers in 1￿ComIng a qualified IDVA. The
service aims are to support and educate deaf women about the different types of abuse and to
support them to a¢¢ess abuse 5ervice5. The s¢rvi¢¢ continues to work with a range of agencies to
ensur¢ that deaf women can access their ￿ergencY and essential support. The Home Security
projeci aims to make vulnerdble deaf wom¢n living in Nottinghamlshirc feel safe in their own
homes with free advice and safety pr(ducts. This project started on 5.9.2022 and ends on 31.3.2025.
Derby Well-being service
This is an emotional and well-being service funded by the NHS. The project started on 1.7.2022
and ended on 30.6.2023.
Aetive Derbyshire
Active Derbyshire funded a rdnge of physical workshops throughout tkrbyshire.

hypertension checks and to provide inforniation lo dcaf women on whcr¢ to get
advice &nd support. This project is ongoing and due to end on 31.03.2025.
