## **UNIVERSAL BULL TERRIER RESCUE REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 MARCH 2024** 

The Trustees present their report along with the financial statements of the Charity for the year ended 31 March 2024. The Financial Statements have been prepared in accordance with the accounting policies set out on page 6 and comply with the applicable law. 

## **Structure, Governance and Management** 

Universal Bull Terrier Rescue (UBTR) is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) and is governed by its Constitution. It was established on 20 September 2019 and is registered charity no. 1185429. 

Any new trustees would be interviewed and voted for by majority decision of the existing trustees, in accordance with the policy and set out in the Constitution.

## **Objectives and activities** 

As stated in the constitution: 

- For the benefit of the public, to relieve the suffering of dogs in need of care and attention, and to provide and maintain rescue homes or other facilities for the reception, care and treatment of such animals, in both the United Kingdom and Europe. 

- For the benefit of the public, to offer shelter or sanctuary for animals which are in need, providing medical treatment for animals, actively seeking new homes for ‘rescued’ animals, in both the United Kingdom and Europe. 

- For the benefit of the public, to provide care and rehoming of animals that are abandoned, mistreated or lost, in both the United Kingdom and Europe. 

- For the benefit of the public, to co-operate with other charities, voluntary bodies and statutory authorities and to exchange information and advice with them, in both the United Kingdom and Europe. 

Activities that have been undertaken for the purpose of raising funds and awareness of the Charity include: 

- Applying for Grants from Organisations like; Animal Friends, Jean Sainsbury and Pets Foundation. 

- Monthly online auction raising between £200 and £900 each month for general funds 

- Merchandise sales of items with the UBTR logo on 

- Stalls at organised events, namely ‘Bullie Bash’ hosted by West Country Bullie Walks, which raised around £900 for general funds 

- Raffles and competitions are hosted regularly to win donated prizes and raise between £100 and £500 a time. 

- Social Media platforms include Facebook and Instagram 

- Social Media Blogs to raise awareness about the breed, and to offer some light hearted and informative reading

## **Achievements and performance** 

Universal Bull Terrier Rescue rescued and rehabilitated 45 dogs in this period of which 43 have been re homed and 2 remain in either long term foster or Kennels. 

Badgers Legacy Trust has gone from strength to strength. In this financial period, 22 dogs have benefitted from our financial support to vet fees, totalling £2,555. 

Our Website development continues, and UBTR no features in the top of online searches for Bull Terrier Rescue’s. 

## **Financial Review** 

The Charity’s principal sources of fundraising are: 

- Donations from individuals or small organisations 

- Online auctions with handmade items 

- Merchandise sales with the logo on 

- Competitions like raffles 

- Adoption Donations for the dogs we rehome 

During the year, the Charity received total income of £46,619 (2023 - £40,259) and expenses totalled £45,366 (2023 - £36,251). At the end of the period, the Charity held funds totalling £9,086. 

Restricted funds held at the end of the period, in respect of the Badgers Legacy Trust, was £990 (2023 - £2,482) 

## _Reserves policy_ 

The Charity currently has no formal reserves policy and undertakes rescue projects only according to the funds available at the time. 

## **Plans for the future** 

- To continue build a good reputation for being the ‘go to’ Rescue for Bull Terriers in the UK 

- To continue building sustainable working relationships with other UK rescues 

- To establish a solid network of volunteers as Ambassadors, Fosterers, and trainers to work with us and support rehabilitation of dogs 

- To establish more grant-based income streams. 

- To offer more educational information around the breed, and the care that they require 

- To expand the trustee team to 5, potentially 6 Trustees

## **INDEPENDENT EXAMINER’S REPORT TO THE TRUSTEES OF UNIVERSAL BULL TERRIER RESCUE** 

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of Universal Bull Terrier Rescue for the year ended 31 March 2024. 

This report is made solely to the charity’s trustees, as a body, in accordance with section 154 of the Charities Act 2011. My independent examiner’s work has been undertaken so that I might state to the charity’s trustees those matters I am required to state to them in an independent examiner’s report and for no other purpose. To the fullest extent permitted by law, I do not accept or assume responsibility to anyone other than the charity, the charity’s members as a body and the charity’s trustees as a body for my independent examiner’s work, for this report, or for the opinions I have formed. 

## **Responsibilities and basis of report** 

As the charity trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’). 

I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act. 

## **Independent examiner’s statement** 

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect: 

1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Trust as required by section 130 of the Act; or 

2. the accounts do not accord with those records. 

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

## **1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES** 

## a) Basis of Preparation 

The accounts are prepared on a receipts and payment basis. 

## b) Receipts 

Receipts from generated funds _Donations and adoption fees_ 

All income from donations and adoption fees is accounted for on the receipts basis. 

Activities for generating funds 

_Fundraising_ 

This represents gross income from events and from sales of merchandise in the year. 

- c) Payments 

Costs of generating funds 

_Costs of generating voluntary income_ 

The heading comprises direct costs of participating in events, all publicity costs and support costs. 

## **2. TRUSTEES' REMUNERATION** 

During the year, none of the Trustees received any remuneration, reimbursed expenses or benefits by virtue of being a Trustee of the Charity.
