The trustees present their report and the financial statements for the year ended 31 March 2025.
Objectives and Activities
Airns and Objectives
The Mernory Matters Foundation was established with the alm of supporting those affected by Dementia and
other long-lerm conditions. To provide relief to those affected by dernenlia and other long-term and chronic health
conditions by the provision of advice. support and education and raising public awareness of such health
conditions. All funds raised enable the ¢harity to support Ih05e issues as needed by those affected.
The charity is supported by the team that runs Memory Mattgrs CIC and Moments Café in the southwest and
was sel up lo enable a transparent fundraising path lo build on the community's needs. The charlty Is a separate
entity from Memory Mattèrs CIC and Moments Cafe and is govemed by trustees under the guid8n¢e of the
Charities Commission.. they do. however, work cooperatively together, albeit with separate roles and
responsibilities.
The Trustees ensure that all charitable activities adhere to the regulatory framework sel by the Charities
Commission and that lunds are used excluswely lo fulfil the Foundation's charitable objectives.
Achievements and Perforniance
Main Achievernents
Throughout 202412025, the Memory Matters Foundation has remained a trusted source of infomation, guidance,
and practical support for people living with dementia and their families across Plymouth and Devon. From early
intervention and peer support lo creative engagement and community inclusion, the Foundation's services have
contlnued lo make a meaningful differance lo the lives of those affected by dementia.
Advice and Support for People Affected by Dementia
During 202412025, Memory Matters Foundatlon supported 479 individuals affected by dementia through the
provision of personalised advice. emotional support, advocacy. information, and signposting to appropriate
services.
Memory Matters Foundation's seNi¢es aim lo enhance support for people awaiting a formal dementia diagnosis.
Waiting lists for diagnosis in Plymouth rernain lengthy, leaving many individuals unable to access essential
dementia-specific services. The Foundation's Dgmantia Hub plays a crucial role in addressing this gap by
offering..
Referrals lo community organisations
Access to Cognitive Stimulation Therapy ICST} and peer support groups
Support with assessment planning
Guidance and referrals to G.P. serVi￿S when needed
By providing this eady inlervenlion, the Hub helps prevent isolation. redu¢0 distress. and ensure farnilie5 Teceive
the support they need al a ¢rili¢al stagè.
Two weekly Memory Cafos wntinue to operate, welcoming 1,099 attendances over the year. These cafés offer
safe and welcoming spa￿S for social interaction, connection. and wellb&ing. They remain fully self-funded.
supported by community fundraising, including a summer fair, seasonal raffles. and small contribution5 from
attendees. This financial independence has enabled additional activitses. including outings, tsrgeted workshops,
and visits from external entertainers.

In June 2024, the Foundation received 8 generous donation of £50.000 from Memory Matters CIC. This
significant contribution has ensured the continued provision of free-lo-acGess dementia information, advice, and
ongoing support delivered through the D&menlia Hub.
Volunteèrs and Communlty Engagement
Volunteers continue lo be central to Ihg succgss of the Foundation's work. Over the past year, volunteers
contributed 1,040 hours supporting Memory Cafés and assisting wilh community oulrea¢h activities. Their
Invofvemenl ensures our services remain flexible, person-centred, and responsive lo community needs.
The Foundation has strengthened its community presence through workshops, awareness events, dementia-
friendly aclivilies, and collaborations with local groups and organisalions. These activities supptsrt the wider
ambition of building a dementia-aware Community across Plymouth and Devon.
Feedback from people living with dementia, their carers, and our partners is a key component of our
development. This ongoing dialogue informs programme planning, ensures inclusivity, and helps us adapt
services to meet emerging needs.
Young Onsèt Dèmentia Group
Our Young Onset Dementia Group continues lo meet monthly on Saturdays, offering a vital space for individuals
diagnosed with dementia under the age of 65. On average. 12 participants attend each session. forming a close
and supporbve peer wmmunity.
What makgs this group particularly effective is its participant-led approach. Activities are chosen and shaped by
group members, ensuring sessions align wllh their interests and abilities. Activities this year have included..

Peer discussions and problem.solving activities

Thls flexible. person4irected model enhances engagement, autonomy, and psychological wellbeing.
The impact extends to families and carers, who benefit from valuable respite and from knowing their loved one is
supported in a meaningful, safe environm8nt. Carers consislenlly report reduced stress, improved confidence.
and a greater sense of connection to others facing similar Challenges.
Through shared experiences. mutual support, and individualty tailored activities. the Young Onset Dementla
Group continues to play a key role in reducing isolation and promoting independence, empowermant, and
wellbeing.

Financial Review

Memory Matters Foundation continues lo use the Services of Memory Matters CIC lo oversee the finance
processes and payments.
All transactions and accounts are processed through Xtrro a¢¢ounting SO￿are and have continued the setvicès
of Beverslon Accounlanls lo oversee the period end and reconcile the accounts.
The Foundation ulilised the reserve brought lorward and donations received lo cover the expenditure in the
period. At the year end. an increased cash surplus of £74,420 was carri&d forward. and together with donations
received post year end, significant funds are available to support the charity's objectives for the next year.
Grants
No grants were recelved durfng the peliod.
Investment pollcy and obJe¢tlve$
Aside from retsining a prudenl amount in reserves each year, most of the charity's funds are spgnt in the short
term, so few funds are available for long-lerm investment. InvgStm8nt may be an option in future years, bul the
Iruslees believe the charitys money musl remain available and easily accessible should unforeseen expenses
arise.

The charity continues to receive support from Memory Matters CIC and were paid a donation of £50.000 during
the period.

unplanned events so Ihal the Charity's primary objective is preserved. At the same lirne, the Trustees wish to
ensure that it uses its funding lo benefit the community.

Governing Document
The charlty Ss governed by ils constitution, dated 18 September 2019.

No new Iruslees were appoinld during this time. New Iru51ee5 Can be appointed by a resolution passed at a
meeting of charity trustees. In selecting individuals for appointment as charity trustees, the charity Iruslees musl
have regard lo the skills, knowledge and experience needed for the effective adminislralion of the CIO.
New trustees are inducted into the workingg of the charity during meetings held on a rggular basis.
Organisational structure
The charty Is a Charitable Incorporatsd Organisation and overall responsibility for the management of the charity
is vested in the Trustees.
The Memory Mallers CIC finance team manages the charity. The charity holds Iruslee meetings Ihroughout the
period, which are organised by the Trustees Its continue with the work necessary lo maintain the charity's
objgctives.
All Iruslees give their lime freely and no trustee remuneration was paid in the period.
The charity has maintained Strong govemance throughout 202412025. The Trustees have ensured that all
charitsble activities are compliant with statutory regulations and aligned with the Foundation's vision and
objectives. Systems for financial management remain robust. with careful oversight of expenditure and a
continued focus on maximising the impact of all donated funds.
Post Balance Sheet Events
In the next acconting period Madeleine Matthews and Philip Dawe were employed. Fundraining activies have
increased and the charity is becoming more ￿COgnised in the community.

As the charity trustees of the Trust you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the
requiremgnts of the Charities Act 20111 the Act l.
I report in respect of rny examination of the Trust's accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in
carrying out my examination. I have followed the applicable Direction5 given by the Charity Comrnission under
section 14515llbl of the Act.
Independent Examlner's Statement
I have completed my examination. I confirm Ih8t no material matters have come to my attention in connection with
the examination giving rne cause to belleve that in any material respect
1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Trust as required by section 130 of the Act., or
2. the accounts do not accord with those records.. or
3. the accounts do not comply with Ihg applicable require￿entS conceming the form and ¢ontents of accounts

Basis of Preparation of Finan¢lal Statgmonts
The financial slalements have been prepared In accordance with the Charities SORP IFRS 1021"A￿￿UnIlng
and Repo￿ng by Charities.. Slalemenl of Recommended Practice appli¢able to charities preparing their
accounts in accordance Mth the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland
IFRS 102} leffeclive 1 January 20191" Financjal Reporting Standard 102'The Finanryal Reporting Standard
applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland" and the Charities Act 2011.
The charity is a Public 8enefil Entity as defined by FRS 102.
2.2. Fund Accounting
Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objecllves al the discretion of the trustees.
Designated funds comprise unTeslricled funds that have been set aside by th8 trustegs for a specrfic
purpose.
Restricted funds are to be used for specific purposes as laid down by the donor.
Further explanation of the nature and purpose of each fund Is included in the notes lo the financial
statements.
2.3. In¢omlng Resourc0$
All charity income is recognised in the Ststement of Financial Aclivilies. Once the charity has entitlement to
the funds. il is probable that the income will be re￿IVed and the amount can be measured reliably.
Incoming resOU￿S from grants related to performance and 5peGific deliverables are accounted for as the
charity earns the right lo consideration for its performance. Other grants, where enlillement is not conditional
on the charity's delivery of a specific performance, are recognised when the Charity becomes unconditionally
entitled to the grant.
Incoming resources from other charitable activities are accounted for when earned.
2.4. Resources Expended
Expenditure is accounted for on an accrual b8sis and has been classified under headings that aggregate all
costs related lo the category. Where costs cannot be directly atlribuled lo particular headings, they have
been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources.
2.5. Tanglble Flxod Assets and Depreciation
2Tangible fixed assets are measured at Gosl less a¢cumulated depreciation and any accumulated
impairment losses. Depreciation is provided at rates calculated to write off the cost of the fixed assets. less
