Brightlight Trustees Report - Dec 2025
Chairs' report and update on charitable giving - Gillian Luck
Another good year for Brightlight, we have had lots of fun. From the performance of Song keeper at Frimley we purchased 7 welcome packs for refugee children coming to the UK. As always, we have donated 10% of our ticket sales to Katcando and we have awarded the Brightlight Christmas Gift split between two worthwhile charities; Ash Food bank and Charlie’s Promise, both nominated and voted for by group members.
Treasurer’s report - Greg Coles
We started the year with circa £15’000 and have ended the year with circa £17’000 in the accounts. This is due to a highly successful year of ticket sales.
Expenses have all been submitted.
We have received a one o donation in a will which has been added to the miscellaneous figures.
We have donated 660 to Katcando from our ticket sales. Subs remain the same at present.
There are plans to make a donation to the school.
Trustees
have invested in our show lighting this year at additional cost. This lighting has enhanced our performances.
The artistic outlook this year has been incredibly strong. We have tried a new festival this year with the Start of Something at Maidenhead which was a huge success and called back for the semi final. Song keeper competed in Welwyn, performed on our main stage and in the Bromsgrove NDFA finals which was an honour to be part of. The experience of Bromsgrove was brilliant and it was great publicity for Brightlight, we have now written blog posts for the NDFA adding to our positive publicity.
We have had three phenomenal main stage productions, where we have been selling tickets in the interval for our next performance. We sold out Almost Holmes, helped in part by Christmas but in large part by our reputation of putting on good quality work.
We began the year with Glorious, every performance was amazing, Andrea did an amazing job in her role and Sylvia was praised for her commitment and for learning Spanish. The directing was acknowledged as a success.
Farndale Murder Mystery was brilliantly done, Allaine and Julie did a fantastic job bringing this together and the cast and crew worked well as an ensemble. Getting a play ‘wrong’ can be hard but we did it very ‘right’. The set was praised.
Almost Holmes was again a fantastic performance, directed by Judy this was a sell out performance. There was a huge marketing push from the whole team which made a positive impact on our sales.
Emphasis will be put on marketing pushes for future performances as well, although we acknowledge it is unlikely we will sell out outside of Christmas. Nearly 600 people are on our mailing list, we will also continue to utilise social media and WhatsApp.
Looking ahead to 2026 there is no reason we cannot continue our success. Entertaining Angels is in the process of being cast, we have already sold 29 tickets. We have also cast and will begin rehearsals next week for The Aviary which will perform at Maidenhead, Welwyn and Henley.
Our September production coinsides with the 200th anniversary of St. Peters Church, we will be writing a play specifically to sit within that celebration. We will also be asking parishioner of their memories to include in this performance.
Thank you everyone for 2025, I am constantly inspired by the commitment and dedication I see from everyone in Brightlight.
Brightlight operates as a charity with an elect committee, from our elect committee the Chair, Deputy Chair, Treasurer and Secretary also stand as our charity trustees. To be compliant with our constitution, they should be formally elected/ appointed at the AGM.
