## **Trustee Report – 2021**

2021 was hopefully the last year that will be affected by Covid restrictions. However, we will continue to be mindful of everything going into 2022, and will closely monitor the information that affects our organisation.

Our charity objectives are: ‘to advance the arts at local, amateur level for the public benefit.’

And, ‘to increase public exposure to the arts by reaching out to new audiences and encouraging high standards through raising artistic skill and nurturing talent.’

Our charity year-end date was changed from 31 August to 31 December. This decision was taken as it was felt that a calendar year programme was easier to manage in terms of budgeting and membership administration.

A detailed budget was prepared showing that if we maintain audience numbers at previous show levels, we should make a small profit on each show, and be able to operate successfully for the foreseeable future. However, it was decided to increase the ticket prices for the December 21 show to reflect general increases in inflation, and also to acknowledge our biggest cost which is the hire of the school hall for rehearsals. The consensus is that the school hall is working well as a venue.

We currently have about £10,000 in the bank. This is the only asset of the charity, and we have no other liabilities or ongoing commitments.

We do need to keep pushing sales, and we recognise that our average audience age is on the higher side. Improving our social media presence is an area we would particularly like to develop – volunteers welcome!

We were also able to get onto internet banking in the period, so we have caught up on all historic expense claims.

The performance venue at Frimley is still regarded as ideal for our requirements, however there is recognition that the lighting infrastructure will need to be updated at some point. There is money available to put towards this cost, but we would hope to be able to apply for some grant funding as well.

We were able to offer a full programme of activities during the period, despite a large portion of the time being spent ‘remotely’. This included A virtual Christmas Carol, a radio play, and Brightlight Voices. The Vicar Of Dibley was very well received, and made over £1,800 profit.

We feel we have fulfilled our charity objectives.

Brightlight are absolutely delighted to welcome the recent new members; and look forward to offering a range of activities and opportunities for everyone to get involved in 2022.

Huge thanks to everyone involved

The trustees

Liam, Gillian, Greg
