The Foundation recognises that an effective l)oard of trustees Is essentsal to the charity achieving ils objectives.
The Foundation should seek to have a boafd that is fèpresèntativè of thè peoplè wrth whom the charity works
and shoul¢J have a balance of the knowledge and skills required to run the charity. Individual trustees musl have
sufficient knowledge lo enable them lo carry out their role and lo ￿present the charity at meetings and events.
Whenever a Trustee departs, a skills audrt ol the board wll be done. Efforts at recruiting a replacement will tske
account of the skills audit and of the skills bein9105t by the departure. Consideration must also be given to any
specific roles or duties that the individual leaving the b08rd w88 undertaking.
Where a need has been identffied to recnJit Trustees. the exiS￿n9 board ol Trustees will manage the process.
This group has responsibility lor ensuring that the recrurtment and IndUct￿Tr process is carried out. This includes
ensuring that new Trustees have a dear underslanding ol the aims and objeclives ol the Foundalion and of their
responsibilities as a trustee.
Trustees for the Foundabon offer their lime on a voluntsry basis.
None of the Trustees has any benefiaal interest in the Foundation. however all of Ihe Trustees are members of
the Foundation and guarantee to contribute £1 in the event ol a wnding up.

Achievements and perfomiance
It is the policy of the Foundation that unrestricted fvnds which have not been deS￿nated for a specffic use should
be rnaintsined at a level equivalent to between three and 5iX-months expenditure. The Trustees consider5 the
reserves at this level will ensure that. in the event of a si9nificant drop in funding, they will be able to continue the
Foundation's current activrties while consideration is given to ways in which additional funds may be iaised. At
the year end, the Foundation's le¥el ol reserves was higher Ihan anb"apated. The Foundation has made a
number ol commitments lo support research projects. however. these projects have all commenced but not been
invoiced for payment at the poinl of the year end.
The Trustees h8ve 8ssessed the major risks to vthich the Foundation is exposed and a￿ satisfied that systems
re in place lo milig8le exposure lo the major risks.
The charity made a fifth donation of £50.0(￿ in this reporting period. extending Irom 115 inrtial three-year
cornrnrtment to support the Motor Neurone Disease Association into a frfth year. Darby Rimmer MND Foundation
total contributions lo the Motor Neurone Disease As$o¢ialion now lo¢81 £250,000. The monies donaltrd lo the
Motor Neurone Disease Association are for specific support to carè 9rants lor motor neuron8 dlsease sufferers
and their families. This funding level is malched by Ihe Motor Neurone Disease Association.

The Association is the onty national chartty in England. Wales and Northem Ireland that funds and prornotes
global research into Ihe disease and provides support lor people affected by Motor Neurone Disease. It is
mernbership organisation with over 9.000 members forming a national and local nebvork thal provides
information and support 8long$ide fightin9 for improve(J seThices. 11 has over 7.000 active volunteers in Eng18nd,
Wales and Northern Ireland and around 170 pawj staff, vthose specialist skills and knowledge are dedicated to
improving the lives of people affected by MND.
The Darby Rimmer MND Foundation supports the MNDA Care Grants Programme. The ffirst £250 of each
Support Grant covered wthin the partnership is provided from the fvnds granled by the Foundation. For children
and Young Persons grants Ihe first £125 is provided from hjnds granted by the Foundation. The balan￿ of funds
up to the rnaxitnum available is then provided by the Association. The As$ociatlgn also ¢oveis all the
progr8mmgs ov6rhe8d costs.

Pr8Ctice applicable to charities preparing their a¢¢ounts in accordance with the Finanaal Reportin9 Standard
applicable in the UK and Republic ol Ireland IFRS 1021" Thè Foundation is a Public Benefrt Entity as defined
by FRS 102.

At the time ol approving th6 ffinanaal statements, the TnJstees have a reasonable expectation that the
Foundation has adequate resources to conbnue in opefabonal existence for the foreseeable future. Thus the
Trustees continue to adopl the going concern basis of accounting in preparing Ihe finanaal statements.

Income Is recognised when the Foundation is legalty ent￿ed to rt after gny perfomance conditlons hove been
met, the amounts can be measvred reliab￿. and il is probable that income will be received.
Cash donations are ￿cogniSed on receipt. Other dOnab"c￿$ are ￿cogniSed once the Foundation has been
notified of the donation, unless perfomiance con¢Jrtions requi￿ deferral of the amount. Income tax ￿cOVerable
in relation to donations received under GIft￿d or deeds of covenant is recognised at the time of the donation.
Legacies a￿ recognised on receipt or othemse rf the Foundab"on has been notified of an impending
distnbutron, the amount Is known, and ￿ceipt Is expected. If the amunt Is not known, the legacy Is t￿ated as
a contingent asset.
