## South Gwynedd Foodbank ## **ANNUAL REPORT** ## **Charity registration Number: 1185190** ## **Chairperson's Report 2024** ## **The objects of the Charity are:** The relief of financial hardship amongst people in South Gwynedd and surrounding area or in any other parts of the United Kingdom in such ways as the Trustees from time to time think fit, in particular, but not exclusively by: - (a) providing emergency food, essential toiletries and household items to individuals and families in need and/or for distribution by charities or other organisations working to prevent or relieve poverty. - (b) such other means, including (but not limited to) the provision of support or signposting to relevant information and other advisory services. ## **Governance:** ## Type of Governing Document – CIO (Charitable Incorporated Organisation) ## Our Trustees: Mrs Claire Owen - Chair Rev Dawn Robinson Mrs Helen Hooper Mrs Denise Bott ## Our Staff: Mr Dave Hooper – Manager. Mr Damian McKeown – Assistant Manager ## Affiliation: South Gwynedd Foodbank is affiliated to the Trussell Trust (Registered Charity Number 1110522) and undergoes an annual governance health check by the Trussell Trust which checks that we have all appropriate policies and procedures in place. Trussell Trust provides training, our Data Collection System, annual conference, and other regular meetings of other Trussell Trust foodbanks in North Wales. ## Activity: 2024 has seen a steady continuation of demand for food parcels whilst ending in an 18% reduction in the number of people we helped over the number in 2022-2023. However, we saw a smaller reduction in the number of vouchers issued, indicating that we are seeing more lager families than in previous years. Our statistics also indicate that we are continuing to see more working families and more elderly people coming to us for help. Although we are still receiving good support from the general public with donations of food to our numerous collection points around South Gwynedd, it is concerning to see that, year-on-year, the trend has been for more food to be given out than we are getting in. If we look at our stocks in 2021, we had over 10 tonnes but now, in 2024 it has reduced to 3.7 tonnes. Thankfully we receive financial contributions which enable us to buy those items that run short. As always, we are very grateful to our team of volunteers who work hard ensuring that donations are brought into the warehouse, checked, sorted, and stored correctly, and who pack our emergency food parcels. However, this year has seen the appointment of our Assistant Foodbank Manager who took up his post at the beginning of February, now working four days a week. This appointment has been established in order to give the Foodbank Manager greater opportunity to consider and implement longer term strategies, develop different approaches for the provision of food to those in need and re-affirm relationships with our Referral Agencies. As the foodbank serves a widespread rural area of South Gwynedd, we continue to locate Emergency Food Boxes in towns around the area to help clients pick up their food without having to travel long distances. We are grateful to the staff at all of these locations who are providing such a valuable service to the foodbank whilst carrying out their normal day-to-day tasks. We welcome the staff at Porthmadog Library who have now joined the team. We are seeing more homeless people being placed into local hotels where they are unable to cook a proper meal. With the provision of a grant from Gwynedd Council, we are developing the provision of ‘Food Vouchers’ that can be redeemed in local cafes where hot meals can be obtained. Finally, a word of thanks to everyone who supports the foodbank, whether by volunteering, donating food, donating money, or generally encouraging us in our work.
