**Lauren’s Legacy**

## **Trustees Report**

The trustees present their annual report and receipt and payments account for year ended 31[st] July 2024.

The charity had an income of £104,388 in the year and is eligible for independent examinations. As the charity is below the larger charity threshold it may also prepare a simple annual report along with a Receipt and Payments Account, in accordance with the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008.

## **Objectives and activities**

Lauren’s Legacy was established in September 2019. The trustees’ objectives are that Lauren’s Legacy provides support to young people and their families who are undergoing treatment for cancer. The assistance provided is designed to help with quality of life or specific requests by provision of wishes. This support could be in the form of respite breaks, concert tickets, provision of travel grants, provision of technology such as laptops, tablets or iPads to enable communication and study whilst isolated and/or hospitalised. Other suitable grants and equipment are considered as determined by the Trustees to add quality to life or anything that can make life better during this dicult time. The trustees also pay due regard to guidance issues by the Charity Commission in deciding which activities the Trust should undertake.

## **Achievements and performance**

The trustees work with the Teenage Cancer Trust, Young Lives Vs Cancer and regional cancer centres who refer families to them for help. The primary focus is young people between the ages of 13 and 24 living in the East Midlands area, but requests from other areas and age groups are also considered.

Since the charity’s formation, more than 144 wishes have been granted. These are as diverse as one to one swimming lessons, climbing lessons, tablets, laptops, smartphones, Lego Sets and holidays. All of these are designed to provide some joy during this dicult time. The charity has also provided short breaks and holidays at its own holiday home for than 60 families.

The charity achieved their biggest target in March 2024 and upgraded their existing holiday home to a larger lodge for families to use. The new property is still situated on the same holiday park, but is more spacious, allowing larger families to visit. The trustees welcomed their first guests to their new lodge in early June 2024 and have opened applications for holidays and short breaks to all the Teenage Cancer Centres within the UK.

## **Financial Review**

The charity has had another amazing year with many fundraising events. The monthly lottery continues to be in huge demand, and the charity is now sponsored by Belper Meadows Cricket Club and Peak Mortgages and Protection in Belper.

In September 2023, the charity became Barratt and David Wilson Homes (North Midlands) Charity of the Year. The division raises funds for the charity by hosting Corporate Golf and Football Tournaments along with employee led events such as Director Sliming, Bake Sales and other events. Any fund the division raise is also matched by the Barratt Foundation, a stand-alone charity which focuses on helping local charities and communities through the UK. The generous donation will go a long way in assisting to fund the day-to-day costs of the Holiday Lodge so that families can continue to receive much needed respite breaks.

The charity also continues to have a fantastic support from independently run fundraising events that have been organised by the public.

## **Lauren’s Legacy**

## **Trustees Report continued**

## **Reserves Policy**

The trustees have anticipated that the day to day running costs of the holiday lodge will be in the region of £10,000 per annum. The trustees estimate that the cost of granting wishes and supporting patients will be approximately £25,000 per annum. With the charity having cash reserves of £62,922 the trustees feel they have sucient reserves to ensure the continuation of it’s work should the anticipated levels of donations dramatically reduce.

## **Future Plans**

The Trustees of Lauren’s Legacy all have personal experience of how devastating a cancer diagnosis for a young person can be. Whilst the treatment received from the NHS is excellent, along with Macmillan Nurses providing support, sometimes there is a need to provide additional support to meet a specific need to bring some joy to a person and family. It is this area that the trustees at Lauren’s Legacy wish to occupy by granting wishes and to oer stays in our own holiday lodge to oer much needed quality family breaks. Just to know that here are organisations out there, non-medical, that can help when asked, can provide a feeling of support. The charity is a small flexible charity which can respond quickly, often within days, after a request for help. The charity continues to consist of trustees who take no personal expenses or costs from being involved in running the charity.

## **Structure, governance and management**

The charity is controlled by its governing document, a deed of trust and constitutes an unincorporated charity.

The trustees who served during the year end and up to the date of signature of this report were:

|Mrs S J Gill|Mr J Lambley|Mr D Marsh|
|---|---|---|
|Mr K Fraser|Ms R Gill|Mr K Elliott|
|Mrs E Elliott|||

New trustees are recruited upon the resignation of any existing trustee. The current board of trustees see no need to increase the number at present.

The trustee’s report was approved by the Board of Trustees.
