Charity Trustees Annual Report for the Financial Year ended 30 June 2021
Status
Our club was chartered in 1960, incorporated a charitable trust fund with registered with the Charity Commission under number 1119298 in May 2007 and converted to a charitable incorporated organisation in January 2020, registered with the Charity Commission under the number 1185162.
Cheltenham Lions Club was also known as Lions Club of Cheltenham. At an ordinary general meeting held in the Victory Club in February 2020 it changed its name and converted to a charitable incorporated organisation continuing to be recognised by the Charity Commissioners under a new charity registration number. Assets of £14889 including £659 restricted cash at bank and an 11-year-old caravan, plus £1758 of members’ cash were handed to the new CIO.
Objects
United to give free time to help the less fortunate. Money raised is spent largely for people in Cheltenham. No money is deducted for Club administration. All administration expenses are paid by club members. The members live by agreed club objects and code of ethics.
Reserves policy
The revenue reserves, shown as funds on the balance sheet, consist mainly of cash held at bank. These are equivalent to expenditure for more than a full year and are therefore considered to be more than satisfactory.
Risk management
The charity trustees have assessed the major risks to which the charity is exposed, particularly those relating to its operations and finances, and are satisfied that systems are in place to mitigate the exposure to those risks.

Independent Examiner’s Report to Cheltenham Lions Club
I report on the financial statements of the Cheltenham Lions Club for the year ended 30 June 2021 which comprise the Statement of Financial Activities, the balance sheet and the related notes. These Financial Statements have been prepared in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard for Smaller Entities (effective April 2008), under the historical cost convention and the accounting policies set out therein.
Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner
As the charity’s trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts; you consider that the audit requirement of section 43(2) of the Charities Act 1993 (the Act) as amended by S.28 of the Charities Act 2006 does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine accounts under Section 43 of the Act, as amended, to follow procedures specified in the General directions given by the Charity Commissioners under section 43(7)(b) of the Act, whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of independent examiner’s report
My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.
Independent examiner’s statement
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:
-
(1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements
-
to keep accounting records in accordance with section 41 of the Act; and
-
to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and to comply with the accounting requirements of the Act
have not been met; or
- (2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
