## **Trustees’ Annual Report**

## **Covering the period from April 01[st] 2024 to March 31[st] 2025**

**Charity name: Skiggle**

## **Charity registration number: 1185108**

## **Aims and objectives**

The constitution states that Skiggle's objective is “the relief of disabled persons in the UK”.

This is achieved through the creation and maintenance of a mutual support network comprising disabled people and their carers. Skiggle’s members use the charity to redistribute surplus medical consumables and provide emergency supply of consumables to those in need.

## **Activities**

**SOS messaging service -** where members can request urgent care essentials immediately, in unforeseen circumstances, from other member’s surplus supplies. The service uses geolocation technology to direct SOS messages to members with a limited radius of the member asking for help. All SOS requests are vetted by our team to ensure they comply with our terms and conditions e.g. the service can’t be used for medications.

**Marketplace** where items can be bought, sold or offered for free. We have strict terms and conditions relating to the movement of products which must be followed. The marketplace includes our Bereavement Angel, an icon available for those needing to use the site due to personal loss. Any items which were originally provided by the NHS can only be offered free of charge.

**Charitable activities** – fundraising to Skiggle running costs, service improvements and promotion of the charity to grow its membership.

## **Achievements in the reporting period**

Skiggle’s membership continued to grow significantly. We now have over 24,000 members. The increasing membership means we can provide better coverage for SOS requests and we are able to make use of otherwise surplus equipment and consumables through the marketplace.

We have also supported 155 SOS requests in the last 12 months. This brings the total number of SOS requests supported since the charity was formed to 812.

Although we can't accurately measure the turnover of the Skiggle marketplace, there has definitely been an increase in activity during the reporting period. We estimate that approximately £3m of surplus NHS consumables and equipment was redistributed in the year. If it wasn’t for Skiggle, most of the consumables would otherwise have been sent to landfill.

Although NHS supply chains have begun to recover from the after effects of the COVID pandemic, we are still seeing numerous shortages. This has meant that many vulnerable people have been struggling for vital supplies such as suction catheters, ventilation kits, specialist feeds and many other items. The Skiggle marketplace and SOS service have been used extensively, as a result we have also seen a number of NHS professionals using Skiggle when the NHS supply chain has failed.

Our social media platforms have brought awareness to the charity and we have successfully achieved many written press releases and a popular engagement with our membership.

We have continued to upgrade website security to protect our vulnerable members. We have had a high profile problematic member which has challenged our security system. Fortunately, we attracted positive publicity on social media by tackling the problem (boosting our membership). Our new security upgrade uses technology from within the banking and gambling sectors.

## **Fundraising performance**

Overall, our fundraising performance is doing well with member contributions up from the previous year. Also donations from people wanting to support such a worthwhile charity We expect to improve our fundraising performance going forward.

## **Structure, governance and management**

The charity is governed by a constitution which was last updated on 2[nd] June 2023.

There must be at least 3 charity trustees. If the number falls below this minimum, the remaining trustee or trustees may only act to call a meeting of the charity trustees or appoint a new charity trustee.

Apart from the first charity trustees, every trustee must be appointed by a resolution passed at a properly convened meeting of the charity trustees.

In selecting individuals for appointment as charity trustees, the charity trustees must have regard to the skills, knowledge and experience needed for the effective administration of the CIO.
