Achievements and Performance
SORP reference
The charity has extended its volunteer base to over 300 people of all ages, many of whom have created new plantations with us.
Summary of the main achievements of the charity, Para 1.20 identifying the difference the charity’s work has made to the circumstances of its beneficiaries and any wider benefits to society as a whole.
The charity has planted over 6500 trees over the twelve-month period, concentrated during the planting season of the British winter months.
Some sites have fared relatively well and feedback from residents has been mainly good, with some volunteering to take a maintenance role such as watering.
Some sites planted in previous years have continued to suffer due to warm hot summers and some replanting has and will continue to be required.
The charity has supported the planting of community orchards around the city with ~40 apple and other fruit trees of “standard” size being planted.
The charity has also been instrumental in co-ordinating and distributing ~100 free trees to residents as part of the Our City Our River scheme and this will continue in the next year.
Future planting for the next season has been planned for >4000 trees over a dozen sites. Sites for planting are mainly council owned although the charity remains interested in planting on private land should the opportunities arise.
Relationships have been maintained with external bodies including Derby City Council, Derby Green spaces, Friends of Derby Parks, and faith groups inc Derby Cathedral
