Our main activities have been to encourage volunteers of all ages to participate in planting and nurturing trees and protecting the local environment. We have been active in developing a tree planting strategy in partnership with Derby City Council, University of Derby, local schools and businesses.

The above have been carried out in compliance with Trees for Derby's duty to have due regard for the Commission's public befefit guidance.

The charity aims to include volunteers in various ways including acting as local coordinator for wards of the city, by identifying sites and assisting organisation of planting events. However due to Covid issues, some planting events with volunteers were cancelled in 2020 and 2021. The charity has set out a Covid planting policy to deal with future events.

The charity has extended its volunteer base to over 300 people of all ages, many of whom have created new plantations with us.

The charity has planted over 7800 trees over the twelve-month period.

Some sites have fared relatively well and feedback from residents has been mainly good, with some volunteering to take a maintenance role.

Some have fared poorly in hot, dry spells and the charity is now better equipped to provide ongoing care.

Future planting has been planned for 5000 over a dozen sites. Sites for planting are mainly council owned although the charity is building relationships with schools and providing notes for guidance on planting and maintenance.

Relationships have been maintained with external bodies including Derby City Council, Derby Green spaces, Friends of Derby Parks, and faith groups inc Derby Cathedral

The creation of 'In My Back Yard' scheme encourages local people to

plant trees in their own gardens and gives advice.

Fundraising for events, site maintenance, tools and trees has been administered as a request for donations from charity members, the public, local businesses. Derby Cathedral has made a generous donation for a planting scheme near the city centre.

Trees were sourced from Woodlands Trust free of charge following application for schools and community free packs.
