open space to be known as ‘Barnwood’ for
the benefit of the inhabitants of East
Finchley and Barnet and to be used as an
area for recreation and other leisure time
occupations, as a meeting area or place for
community events and for any other lawful
purpose and for the general benefit of the
community, in the interests of social
welfare, and with the object of improving

1.19|Barnwood continues to grow in many ways.
We welcome the public every week with
free access to the site on Fridays/
Saturdays/ Sundays, facilitated by a rota of
volunteers from our group of trustees.
Our regular ‘sheltered’ groups continue to
meet throughout the year (Mondays to
Thursdays) with May seeing our ‘Silver
Birches’ group attending a 6-week
structured ‘outdoor skills’ course, which
was well-attended and enjoyed by all.
June saw essential repairs to our disabled
access path, with the top surface stripped
off and an extra 6 tons of materials laid on
top.
In July, BBC London came and filmed a
report on our ‘N2 MumSpeak’ group, which
aired in the evening and was repeated the
next morning. Barnwood looked
resplendant on the telly (and was seen by
so many people!).
Four Tuesdays in August saw the pilot of
our much-awaited ‘Intergenerational Forest
School’ scheme come to fruition; bringing
together (on average 12 of each) over 55’s
with 6-11 year-olds, sharing ourtdoor
activities and led by 2 experienced leaders
plus helpers. This was an outstanding| |||success beyond our expectations and we
are already planning next year’s scheme.
The much-expected Halloween/Samhain
event was very well attended with several
new young families turning up. This was as
a result of our cooperation with Barnet 0-19
Social Services who use Barnwood every
Wednesday.
It was a quiet Christmas period this year
but the new year saw us plant another 200
tree whips, mainly as hedgerow. Finally, in
March a film was shot (for Grange Big
Local) about Barnwood. It was fascinating
to see drone footage of our seemingly tiny
site from above, which only helps us realise
how much we have packed into our small
space and realise our achievements so far.
The stewardship of the site has certainly
reaped rewards shown by the flora and
fauna using the space.
This year’s moth records were 2272
specimen of 222 species.
We will continue to work with other local
service providers to reach as many people
as possible and welcome them to share in
the delights of Barnwood, whilst nature

organisations which has two way benefits
for nature and our visitors.

positive...there have been NO incidences
of vandalism or antisocial behaviour so far

April 2025, Barwood N2's total income was
£5,162, with £5,126 received in grants and
donations. We received £4880 from
Grange Big Local to support our
Intergenerational Forest School project for
families run in summer 2024 and summer
2025.
Barnwood N2's expenditure in 2024/25
amounted to £5,456, with most of the
unrestricted funds of £3,214 spent on the
Coronation Pond, Website and Publicity,
Insurance and Maintenance, while £2,242
of the restricted funds covered our activity
on the ongoing Silver Birches project and
the first summer of the Intergenerational
Project. At the year-end, we registered a
balance of £18,288 in the Barnwood N2
bank account, of which £4,322 was
