open space to be known as ‘Barnwood’ for
the benefit of the inhabitants of East
Finchley and Barnet and to be used as an
area for recreation and other leisure time
occupations, as a meeting area or place for
community events and for any other lawful
purpose and for the general benefit of the
community, in the interests of social
welfare, and with the object of improving

1.19|May 2023 certainly was a busy month for
attracting the public to Barnwood, starting
with two events as part of City Nature
Challenge - one with our local Scout group
and the other open to the general public
(both a success).
A week later was probably our biggest ever
event - a party to celebrate the Coronation
of the King. Attended by the Mayor of
Barnet and many local residents - a truly
memorable and far reaching event.
Later that same week, as part of the Urban
Tree Festival, was a "public" walk across
Finchley's Urban streets ending at the calm
surrounds of Barnwood. Walkers were
treated to a display of herbal balm making
using only local ingredients followed by a
cup of foraged plant soup cooked on an
open fire. This was another 20 people new
to Barnwood who were delighted to
discover the calm welcome.
The year continued with our regular events
which welcomed many regulars and new
attendees alike.
Recording moths around the site was in it's
third year, with a total of 2,825 moths of| |||295 species recorded and released. It is
valuable to record these seldom seen
visitors as they are a very important part of
the fauna on site.
This year also saw the construction of a
pond - surrounded by a dead hedge for
safety - another piece of habitat for wildlife
on the site.
Barnwood continues to be opened to the
public for free access on Fri/Sat/Sundays
every week throughout the year. The
remaining four days continue to be devoted
to the regular "sheltered" groups that
benefit from sole use of the site and also
carry out very important care of the site.
We continue to reach out to and welcome
new people to Barnwood by providing a
safe , friendly, semi wild environment where
diverse people can come together, or
individually, to enjoy inner peace and a
sense of belonging/ownership, many of
whom say how beneficial they
find experiencing the "grounding" from
being at one with nature on the site.
We will strive to continue reaching out to
new people in the future...We ALL benefit

April 2024, Barwood N2 received £10,513
in grants and donations, including a £9700
grant from National Lottery Awards for
All to support legacy projects and activities
to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles
III. Barnwood N2's total income for the year
was £10,552.
Our expenditure amounted to £4,498 from
the unrestricted funds - with payments
made primarily to organise the Coronation
and seasonal events, purchase storage
unit, renew insurance and initiate the works
on our Coronation pond - while £503 was
spent from the restricted funds related to
the Silver Birches project.
At the year-end, we registered a healthy
balance of £18,582 in the Barnwood N2
bank account, of which £2384 was
restricted.
It is our policy that unrestricted funds not
designated for a specific use should be
maintained at a level which will ensure that
in the event of a drop in
funding the Charity will be able to continue
