|Summary of the purposes of<br>the charity as set out in its<br>governing document|Para 1.17|Our object is “to provide and maintain an<br>open space to be known as ‘Barnwood’ for<br>the benefit of the inhabitants of East<br>Finchley and Barnet and to be used as an<br>area for recreation and other leisure time<br>occupations, as a meeting area or place for<br>community events and for any other lawful<br>purpose and for the general benefit of the<br>community, in the interests of social<br>welfare, and with the object of improving<br>the condition of life of the said inhabitants.”|
|Summary of the main<br>activities in relation to those<br>purposes for the public<br>benefit, in particular, the<br>activities, projects or<br>services identified in the<br>accounts.|Para 1.17 and<br>1.19|Barnwood continued to open to the general<br>public on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays<br>– the remaining days are allocated to use<br>by “sheltered” groups and maintenance.<br>Wednesdays are devoted to groups from<br>Newstead – Barnet’s Social Services Child<br>and Families Support Unit, with a 0-6 year-<br>olds (+parents) group in the mornings and<br>a more formal Nursery group in the<br>afternoons.<br>The Harington Schemes continue to use<br>the site on Monday or Thursdays with<br>groups of up to 12 Interns learning life skills<br>and gardening/landscaping – this year saw<br>another 250 (donated) tree whips planted in<br>and around.<br>N2 MumsSpeak again held 4 sessions with<br>guest speakers in the open air.<br>Last years successful Over 55’s (now<br>known as The Silver Birches) project was<br>expanded this year with a 12 week<br>programme of craft/forest school activities<br>for TWO groups of 12 people (separate<br>report is available)  This was such a<br>success that some of the combined groups<br>continue to meet on Tuesdays on a more<br>informal basis.<br>Public events included :-|





|||May – as part of The City Nature Challenge<br>– a day of identifying bugs/birds and<br>flowers on site.<br>August – an open day showcasing arts+<br>crafts from the Silver Birchers –<br>music,cooking and children’s activities –<br>this was organised and hosted by the Silver<br>Birches Group !<br>October – Saw our now famous<br>Halloween/Samhain celebrations with<br>spooky crafts and fresh Pumpkin Soup<br>cooked outdoors.<br>February – Saw a very well attended event<br>to celebrate Tu Bishvat where we planted<br>an avenue of Rowan trees and shared food<br>and Jewish culture.<br>We continue to build our reputation as a<br>friendly, welcoming and safe space for<br>groups as well as individuals to spend time<br>in natural surroundings. The continued<br>cooperation with other local service<br>providers helps!|

There are lots of individual<br>cases where we can really see the change<br>in people’s confidence and self esteem as<br>a result of their interaction.<br>We must not forget the improvement to the<br>Environment itself and the wildlife in and<br>around the site.<br>We cooperate with several London/national<br>organisations which has two way benefits<br>for nature and our visitors.<br>It must be noted that there is another<br>positive...there have been NO incidences<br>of vandalism or antisocial behaviour so far<br>observed.|

## **Financial Review** 

|Review of the charity’s<br>financial position at the end<br>of the period|Para 1.21|In our last financial year (2022/23) ending 5<br>April 2023, Barnwood N2 received<br>donations of £539 from individuals and<br>groups, which was our core income for the<br>year. We obtained no grants for new<br>initiatives and focused on implementing our<br>Silver Birch project, for which we received<br>funding from the Barnet Council at the end<br>of the previous financial year (2021/22).<br>Our total income in the last financial year<br>was £559.<br>Barnwood N2's expenditure paid out of<br>unrestricted funds in the last financial year<br>stood at £1,078, with payments made<br>primarily to organise community events,<br>renew the insurance policy and maintain<br>our forest garden so that it continued to be<br>safe for everyone to use. From a restricted<br>fund, dedicated to the Silver Birch project,<br>£6,760 was spent, which brought our total<br>payments in 2022/23 to £7,838.<br>At year end, we registered a balance of<br>£13,032 in the Barnwood N2 bank account,<br>of which £10,145 was unrestricted funds<br>and £2,887 was restricted to the ongoing<br>Silver Birch project.<br>It is our policy that unrestricted funds not<br>designated for a specific use should be<br>maintained at a level which will ensure that<br>in the event of a drop in funding the Charity<br>will be able to continue its activities.|
