Objectives and Activities

SORP reference
Summary of the purposes of
the charity as set out in its
governing document
Para 1.17 Our object is “to provide and maintain an
open space to be known as ‘Barnwood’ for
the benefit of the inhabitants of East
Finchley and Barnet and to be used as an
area for recreation and other leisure time
occupations, as a meeting area or place for
community events and for any other lawful
purpose and for the general benefit of the
community, in the interests of social
welfare, and with the object of improving
the condition of life of the said inhabitants.”
Summary of the main
activities in relation to those
purposes for the public
benefit, in particular, the
activities, projects or
services identified in the
accounts.
Para 1.17 and
1.19
As society was coming to terms carefully
living with Covid and social distancing, our
Barnwood started to open its doors again
to the programmed events. These events
included our long-standing collaboration
with the Harington schemes and Newstead
(Barnet Social Services 0-19 years) where
they were using the site 2 days a week.
We developed new collaborations via
Grange Big Local with Wild About Our
Woods CIC, a 12-week programme for 12
people over 55 years-old, to overcome
isolation and gain confidence through the
medium of outdoor forest school activities.
Similarly, N2 Mums Speak on 4 occasions
used Barnwood as a support group for new
mums underpinned by guest speakers.
In June 2021, we celebrated Refugee Day
with Care 4 Calais and Groundswell Project
and in July and August, we held with GBL
funding support 2 drumming sessions open
to the public.
In July, we had a joint open day event with
other local service providers and in
October, we celebrated the pagan aspect
of Halloween / Samhain.
In December, we had a tree planting event
with the 1stFinchley Scouts and marked a
big milestone for us because we started
opening our doors to the public every
weekend.

issued by the Charity
Commission on public

Achievements and Performance

SORP reference
Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.
Para 1.20 Our biggest achievement was coming out
of Covid restrictions having maintained the
site in great condition with the support of
our amazing volunteers.
Another milestone was the completion of
planting hedgerow around the entire
perimeter of the site.
We are very proud that we have formed
new diverse collaborations. We are
attracting more users, a lot of them as

regular visitors, of different age and ethnic groups, supporting them in their mental well-being and encouraging social interaction. Our over 55s project enabled the participants to regain their confirdence after covid isolation and other lonileness factors, while our N2 Mums Speak group enabled similar results with new mothers. Finally, we achieved our goal of opening the site to the public unsupervised.

Financial Review

Review of the charity’s
financial position at the end
of the period
Para 1.21 'In our third financial year (2021/2022)
ending 5 April 2022, Barnwood N2 secured
a funding of £9,740 from Barnet Council for
our flagship project Silver Birches
(restricted funds) as well as received
donations of £422 (unrestricted funds) from
individuals and groups attending our
events. Our total income in the last financial
year was £10,162.
Barnwood N2's total expenditure in the last
financial year was £1,199 and covered
mainly events, insurance and equipment
(including one of our best investments: a
SumUp card reader). Out of the total
expenditure, £93 was from restricted funds
to cover the initial expenses on the Silver
Birches project.
At the year end, we registered a healthy
balance of £20,311 in the Barnwood N2
bank account. Out of it, £9,647 was
restricted and £10,664 was unrestricted
funds.
It is our policy that unrestricted funds not
designated for a specific use should be
maintained at a level which will ensure that
in the event of a drop in funding the Charity
will be able to continue its activities.
