Summary of the main achievements of the The Maths Society unlocks the potential of children and young people who are facing academic disadvantage. Our teacher and tutors are empowered to enable pupils to make meaningful academic charity during the year progress, opening doors to future opportunities.
The Maths Society has made an impact and it is both a reflection and a celebration: a reflection of the significant impact the pandemic has had on education and the even greater challenge this poses for pupils facing disadvantage who are prevented from reaching their full academic potential.
But it is a celebration of The Maths Society's years of impact, recognising the achievements and evolution of delivery and positioning itself for many more years of making a difference.
Key findings:

2021-22 was a record breaking year for The Maths Society.

The charity’s incredible tutors delivered 1611 tutoring sessions to pupils in this time period
-
• 322 pupils were supported in total
-
Last year GCSE results were decided by teachers (teacher-assessed grades). Of those The Maths Society pupils, who attended at least eight tutoring sessions in their subject: 100% achieved grade 4 or above in English and 100% achieved grade 4 or above in maths. These pupils out-performed the national GCSE results for disadvantaged pupils (nationally 67% of disadvantaged pupils achieved a grade 4 or above in English and 62% for maths in 2020-21).

• Due to the pandemic, SATs were cancelled for a second year for Year 6 pupils.
School closures are likely to reverse progress made to narrow the academic attainment gap in the last decade. Predictions estimate the gap could increase by as much as 75%. A recent EPI report found the disadvantage gap at GCSE is significant, and outcomes for the very poorest pupils in long-term poverty have failed to improve after a decade.
We were proud to play our part in helping pupils and schools through an exceptionally difficult year. We’re incredibly grateful to the pupils' dedication, the schools who partnered with us and the staff team who worked so hard and adapted so willingly to make the best of the year. Looking ahead we’re excited to be growing again this year and we are thrilled to be continuing and we remain resilient to the challenges that Covid brings to education.

Section E Financial review
Brief statement of the The trustees aim to maintain free reserves in unrestricted funds at a level which equates to
charity’s policy on reserves approximately three months of unrestricted charitable expenditure. The trustees consider
that this level will provide sufficient funds to respond to applications for bursaries and
ensure that support and delivery costs are covered.
The reserves policy is reviewed annually where specific factors affecting the level of
reserves are looked at, primarily contractual obligations for tutors, with changes being
made as necessary.
