While many organisations sadly shrunk and even sunk as a result of the pandemic, 2020-21 challenged dvash to adapt and discover new strengths. While the lockdown restrictions limited our normal face-to-face activities, and most of our staff were furloughed for a lot of the time, we found new ways to engage our community.

One solution was to hold outdoor events including prayer meetings, which were quickly oversubscribed. Over 60 young families and 153 children were inspired by these services which have become regular monthly events.

Our centre’s garden also served as the location of one of our weddings. The charity delivered six pre-marriage courses and officiated and four wedding ceremonies; during a period when there were hardly any weddings and those that did happen were restricted to small numbers. Helping these couples come to terms with a smaller, more intimate wedding was used as an educational tool to teach them how to deal with the unforeseen challenges all marriages face.

We also developed and delivered a new bar-mitzvah course and officiated at two of the outdoor ceremonies. Another outdoor celebration included a baby naming ceremony.

We provided crucial pastoral support to many couples and families suffering from stress and anxiety from the pandemic. This included four couples in crisis, with one also mourning a late miscarriage and another a failed IVF process. In another case, we were able to save a marriage from divorce through our direct intervention and counselling.

Live classes were moved to ZOOM for virtual learning, accounting for approximately 25 hours per week of learning. We started a weekly podcast which is heard by over 100 regular listeners.

Now that the pandemic has largely subsided, the organisation has been looking at how to expand its reach . Plans include introducing new educational opportunities for young couples, helping them to better their relationships and connection to Judaism. In addition to this, the Charity has undertaken a strategic review of its marketing and how it attracts new participants, introducing a strategy using social media and digital marketing.

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity (“the Trust”) for the year ended 31 / 08 / 2022.

• Responsibilities and As the charity trustees of the Trust, you are responsible for the preparation basis of report of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”).

I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.

Independent examiner's statement

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect:

• accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Act or

• the accounts do not accord with the accounting records

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
