are seeing the community space being
used by a wider variety of groups. For
example, the garden is now a polling
station for local elections. This has given us
not only an additional income stream but
also free advertising, as we feature on
every polling card delivered to the local
area.
We were successful in receiving a
Coronation Party grant enabling us to offer
a well-supported free BBQ and Coronation
party to the local community. The range of
events held developed even further, with
an NHS birthday party, another hugely
popular Halloween event and Christmas
craft workshops. As always, everything we
offer is free to all – although we do accept
donations.
The charity will be 5 years old next year
and the trustees are working on plans to
secure our future growth. Our community
hub building is at capacity and is often
standing room only. Our chicken run is in
need of renewal. We are short of storage
space and we need some under cover
shelter for outdoor events. We have
secured a capital funding grant from
Ashford Borough Council to cover all of
these projects. Alongside this is the
renewal of our lease for the site. We are
looking for a longer lease than previously
granted i.e. 15-20 years instead of 3 years.
Negotiations are underway and the next
trustee report should detail the outcome of
