completing the garden infrastructure. This
started in April 2021 with the installation of
mains electricity to the site, bringing an end
to use of portable generators for power.
We were fortunate to have a qualified
electrician volunteer to complete the wiring
to the buildings on site. Later in the year we
were successful in obtaining a grant from
Southern Water to fund the sewer
connection for the disabled toilet on site. A
network of water pipes were also laid
providing towns water supply to the far end
of the site. Disabled ramps were also built
and installed into the Community Hub
building and the Gazebo, making these
areas accessible.
A donated kitchen was installed within the
shipping container to host our ‘grow cook
and eat’ project and a kitchenette in the
Community Hub building so that users can
enjoy a hot drink.
As a team we were delighted to be finalists
in the Ashford in Bloom competition for the
best Communal Garden. We were also
featured in the ‘Ashford For You’ magazine
which led to several new volunteers joining
the team. We hosted the Mayor of Ashford
in January 2022 which was followed up
with his chosen charity using our facilities
for their ‘Wellbeing day’.
At Halloween we held our first large
community event, a Halloween
‘Spookacular’ with over 100 local families
attending the free event.
Finally we registered to be a beneficially of
the new Ashford Community Lottery
providing another [albeit small] income
