## **for the year ended 31 August 2025** 

The Murray Family Foundation was formed by constitution dated 21 January 2019 and was registered in England and Wales as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation on the 21 August 2019 with charity registered number 1184997. 

The objects of the charity are to support the promotion of public education and research into mental health problems. It aims to support the relief of persons suffering from mental health, preserve and protect the mental health of persons and relieve poverty among families of persons suffering from mental health problems.. 

The charity uses funds to support the promotion of public education and research into mental health problems. It offers to support the relief of persons suffering from mental health, preserve and protect the mental health of persons and relieve poverty among families of persons suffering from mental health problems. 

## **Trustees** 

The trustees who are also the members and served the charity during the period are detailed on Page 1. 

New trustees are appointed by the current trustees from people over 16 who have shown a keen interest in the work of the charity and have abilities required on the governing body. 

The board shall consist of at least three trustees and at least one of the trustees must be 18 years of age or over.  When they are inducted the trustees are presented with a current copy of the constitution and latest annual report and financial statements. 

## **Trustees responsibilities** 

The Trustees are required to prepare financial statements for each financial period which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the Charity and of its income and expenditure for that period. In preparing those financial statements, the Trustees are required to: 

- select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently; 

- make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent; 

- state whether applicable accounting standards and statements of recommended practice have been followed, subject to any departures disclosed and explained in the financial statements; and 

- prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the charity will continue in operation. 

The trustees are responsible for keeping accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy the financial position of the charity and which enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities Act 2011. 

## **Public benefit** 

The trustees consider that the objectives and activities of the charity are in accordance with the Charity Commissions' general guidance on public benefit. The details of public benefit are covered within other areas of this report especially under the heading of 'Achievements, performance and developments'. 

The foundation makes grants to charities, or other organisations working to advance charitable purposes, which gives benefit to everyone regardless of age, ability, creed or ethnic origin. 

## **Financial review** 

The results for the charity for the financial year are detailed on pages 6 to 8. 

At the period end the charity had received funds which had yet to be distributed. There are worthwhile causes which the trustees are considering worthy of support and meeting the charity objects.

## **Achievements, performance and developments** 

The foundation has generated income and awarded grants under its formal Grant making policy as shown within the financial statements.  The charity has been able to offer support the following main  charities. 

- **Charlie Waller Memorial Trust -** is a UK registered charity which gives free mental health training to schools; reaching thousands of pupils, teachers and parents. It  provides training to universities, workplaces, GPs and nurses, encouraging those who may be too depressed to seek help and raises awareness of depression and other mental health issues, particularly among young people, helping them take care of their emotional wellbeing and fighting the associated stigma. 

- **Hampshire Medical Fund** - is a UK registered charity, which buys cutting-edge medical equipment for Basingstoke, Winchester and Andover hospitals to assist them with the ever increasing burden of funding requirements on the NHS.  The charity's work is increasingly necessary to help enable the Hampshire Hospitals to provide the best possible care for patients and putting our Hampshire NHS Trust at the forefront of clinical excellence. 

By supplying pioneering equipment to our hospitals, the Hampshire Medical Fund is aids the Hampshire NHS Trust in being able to attract and retain the best consultants, junior doctors, nurses and therapists to care for the community of Hampshire. 

- **I Can and I Am's** mission is to ignite self-belief and self-confidence in young people. The charity supports teachers, parents and businesses to create environments that nurture healthy self-esteem, develop self-confidence and positive self-talk, and foster a sense of belonging. 

I Can and I Am Ltd is a charity registered in England and Wales, charity number 1163075 and they operate through simple yet powerful tools, to help people recognise their inner strengths, embrace their individuality, develop a mindset that fosters growth and resilience and to learn how to face challenges 

The charity has used funds to invest in a second bus from which their charitable activities focus on building self belief in young people and equipping parents and those in schools who work in positions of pastoral care.  The services are provided free of charge to schools within the state sector.  The work on board the bus enables small group work with a focus on the individual and embedding further the messages delivered within the presentations. The main focus of their work with the buses this year was to improve the offering and gauge for which age groups the workshops proved most impactful. 

- **Parents and Children Together** changes lives by building and nurturing adoptive families and empowering women, children and parents to rebuild after trauma and embrace a positive future. Established in 1911, PACT is now one of the UK’s leading charities in its field and is dedicated to finding secure and loving families for children waiting to be adopted, continued support through therapeutic services, supporting and empowering women facing multiple disadvantages and the recovery of children affected by domestic abuse. 

PACT is a charity registered in England, charity number 285214. Last year, 84 children were placed in loving, permanent families; 242 women were supported through Alana House and 158 children were directly supported by their Bounce Back 4 Kids scheme. 

Alana House is PACT’s flagship community project that uses a holistic approach to support and empower women. They offer a confidential, women-only, non-judgemental space and welcome all selfidentifying women who feel they need help and support. 

Bounce Back 4 Kids (BB4K) is a support programme developed by PACT that uses therapeutic techniques to support children who have been affected by or witnessed domestic abuse. The programme works with children and their parents or carers to heal from trauma through a series of therapeutic support sessions. 

The charity is important in protecting the mental health of those involved within the adoption process bringing all together and a supporting environment.

- **Kids on Track** is a charity registered in England and Wales, charity number 1167022 **.** KoT strive to provide a happy and fun environment in which they can support and encourage all children on the KoT programme. This combination has proved to be a winning formula from which the charity can develop lasting and meaningful relationships with the children as they progress through the Junior and Senior programme 

The charity uses Activity Camps as part of their work for children before they enter their teens. The After School Clubs enables the charity to keep in touch with the children as they move into the senior programme where the use of Trips and Visits continues their development and has resulted in some being offered jobs by those offering the facilities etc. The charity uses their Mentoring programme to provide positive role models to help improve self-confidence, self-esteem and resilience. 

They are providing a vital service in protecting the mental health of those children involved. 

- **Rainbow Trust Children's Charity** supports families with a seriously ill child and is a registered charity in England and Wales, number 1070532. The charity is a leading organisation providing practical and emotional support to those families who have a child with a life threatening or terminal illness. 

Rainbow Trust Children's Charity supports siblings of the seriously ill child so that they have someone to talk to and are given the chance to have some fun. They provide practical and emotional support for families so they didn't have to cope alone, including transport support to vital medical appointments, alleviating the stress for exhausted parents. 

The charity has been able to provide days out for the families so they are able to spend more time together and enjoy much needed respite.  Unfortunately the inevitable occurs and they are then able to provide bereavement support, giving the families time to talk about their grief and to keep their child’s memory alive. 

- **Dogs Trust** has been working for a better future for dogs and the people who love them.  The charity cares for dogs when they are in distress; rehome those that need a home by finding them a loving family. The charity aims to be able to offer a helping hand when owners need help of if they just can’t cope. 

The charity is registered in England and Wales, and Scotland registered numbers 1167663 and SC053144 respectively. They provide vital mental support for pet owners in need of help and also rehomes dogs with families providing the dog and the owners with a safe and secure environment. 

Although the aforementioned charities are not always directly associated with mental health and wellbeing the impact that those charities have on the public does help those with such problems and alleviates others also. 

## **Reserves policies** 

The trustees do not currently have a need for a specific reserves policy but funding is sought and may build over a short period while the trustees consider applications for grants.  Should a worthwhile cause arise which requires more funds than are currently available then grants will either be made in instalments or funds held until they are sufficient to meet the requirements. 

Any funds held by the charity are retained in bank accounts with the providers shown on the charity information page.  These funds are considered to be held in low risk accounts.

## **Risk assessment** 

The trustees have considered the major risks to which the charity is exposed and consider that those risks have currently been negligible.  When the charity makes investments then it will need to re-address those risks and ensure that suitable mixes are used to mitigate risk. 

The trustees do have a grant making policy which incorporates ensuring that the institutions to which grants are made are suitable and charitable in their own activities.  The trustees have a policy to avoid direct individual contact with any vulnerable persons.

I report to the charity on my examination of the accounts of the charity for the year ended 31 August 2025 which are set out on pages 7 to 9. 

## **Responsibilities and basis of report** 

As the charity trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 ('the Act'). 

I report in respect of my examination of the charity's accounts carried out under section 145 of the Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act. 

## **Independent examiner's statement** 

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect: 

1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the Act; or 

2. the accounts do not accord with those records, or 

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

## **1 Accounting policies** 

The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the exemptions applicable under the Statement of Recommended Practice on Accounting by Charities and the Charities Act 2011. 

The statements of financial activities has been prepared on a receipts and payments basis. 

The statement of Net Assets shows the assets of the charity and any amounts due to or owed by the charity. The statement will not include any provisions for liabilities and charges. The trustees are of the opinion that should any significant matters occur prior to the year end, they will be disclosed within the notes of the accounts. 

## **2. Trustees remuneration, expenses and control** 

There have been no remuneration or expenses paid to any of the trustees during the current or prior year. The charity decisions are made by the trustees as a body and are detailed on page 1 of this report.  No one trustee or group of trustees has a dominant control. 

## **3. Related party transactions** 

All donations have been received from parties connected to the trustees. 

There have been no other related party transactions during the current or prior year.
