Founded to give young men a place to meet, make friends, and exchange ideas, the Round Table is non-religious, non-political and non-sectarian, and has as much to offer men today as it did when it started in 1927. As important as what the Round Table is, is what it isn’t. If you think the Round Table is a closed, secret society that belongs to the past, you couldn’t be further from the truth. Much more than just a club or an association, the Round Table is a vibrant movement whose 8,000 members meet regularly in 600 clubs around the UK to see friends, have fun, and get involved in their local communities. The energy that members bring to Table forms friendships, shapes lives and makes a lasting difference to many people beyond the movement itself. ## **Aims and Objectives** 1. To develop the acquaintance of young men through the medium of their professional and business occupations. 2. To emphasise the fact that one’s calling offers and excellent medium of service to the community. 3. To cultivate the highest ideal in business, professional and civic traditions. 4. To recognise the worthiness of all legitimate occupations and to dignify each his own by precept and example. 5. To further the establishment of peace and goodwill in international relationships. 6. To further these objects by meetings, lectures, discussions and other activities. ## **Round Table Grace** _“May we O Lord adopt thy creed, adapt our ways to serve thy need, and we who on thy bounty feed improve in thought, in word and deed”_ 1 **HEREFORD ROUND TABLE REPORT OF THE CHAIRMAN** **FOR THE PERIOD 1 APRIL 2023 TO 31 MARCH 2024** ## **Chairmans Report** As Chairman of Hereford Round Table for the latter part of the 2023-24 year, I am pleased to submit this annual report summarising our activities, achievements, and financial impact during the period. This year has been marked by both successful fundraising and significant contributions to the community, as well as a mid-year leadership transition and new challenges on the horizon. ## **Leadership Transition:** Following the successful delivery of our flagship event, Rock the Barn Festival, our elected Chairman stepped down due to personal commitments. We extend our thanks for their leadership during the first part of the year, particularly in the planning and execution of Rock the Barn. After stepping into the role, I have been honoured to lead the organisation through the remainder of the year, supported by an outstanding team of dedicated members. ## **Fundraising Activities:** Our most notable fundraising success this year was the Rock the Barn Festival, which brought together the Herefordshire community for a fantastic day of live music, entertainment, and fellowship. This event raised the majority of our funds for the year, and its success reflects the strength of our membership and the generosity of our community. The funds raised during the year have supported a wide range of charitable causes across Herefordshire, including: - Educational Initiatives: Donations to a local school library and music department to enhance learning opportunities - Support for Families Affected by Cancer: Funding respite holidays for children with cancer and their families - Broader Community Support: Numerous additional contributions to local initiatives and individuals in need ## **Looking Ahead:** While Rock the Barn has been a cornerstone of our fundraising efforts, we have made the decision not to host the event in 2024. Instead, we are focusing on other creative and impactful initiatives to continue our work. Among these is a major physical challenge that our team is undertaking, which will serve both as a fundraising effort and a demonstration of the commitment and teamwork that defines Hereford Round Table. We believe this new venture will inspire support and engagement from the community while helping to raise significant funds for local causes. ## **Governance and Financial Oversight:** We have continued to uphold robust governance practices, ensuring that all funds are managed and distributed transparently and effectively. Our financial processes remain strong, and a detailed financial report has been prepared for submission. ## **Closing Thoughts:** As we reflect on the successes and challenges of 2023-24, I am proud of what we have achieved as an organisation. The strength of our membership, the generosity of our community, and the impact of our charitable efforts are testaments to the values of Hereford Round Table. I am confident that 2024-25 will bring further opportunities to make a difference, and I look forward to leading the group through another year of service and fellowship. I report in respect of my examination of the Trust's accounts carried out under section 145 of the Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act. ## **Independent examiner's statement** I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect: 1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Trust as required by section 130 of the Act; or 2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or 3. the accounts do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out - in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a - true and fair view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination. **28,054**| |---|---|---|---| 6 **HEREFORD ROUND TABLE NOTES TO THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS FOR THE PERIOD 1 APRIL 2023 TO 31 MARCH 2024** ## **1 ACCOUNTING POLICIES** ## **Accounting convention** The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention, and in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard for Smaller Entities (effective April 2008), the Charities Act 2011 and the requirements of the Statement of Recommended Practice, Accounting and Reporting by Charities. ## **Incoming resources** All incoming resources are included on the Statement of Financial Activities when the charity is legally entitled to the income and the amount can be quantified with reasonable accuracy. ## **Resources expended** Expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been classified under headings that aggregate all cost related to the category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to particular headings they have been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources. ## **Taxation** The charity is exempt from tax on its charitable activities. ## **Fund accounting** Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the trustees. Restricted funds can only be used for particular restricted purposes within the objects of the charity.
