TEMPS Trustees Report – April 2020 – March 2021

This year’s report was compiled by Trustees Linda Bunkell , Beryl Blackmore & Lynda Baker.

TEMPS continue to provide quality, accessible Out of School Childcare offering a welcoming atmosphere. A further objective is to advance the Education of the Children and Training of the staff providing the Childcare.

Care is provided for children attending the Rofft School from Nursery to Year 6 during Term Time, during Holiday Club care is provided for children attending other schools to the age of 14 years. A maximum of 52 children can attend the club using the mobile and stated rooms in the school, outdoor classroom / pod.

Due to COVID-19 Restrictions it has been a very difficult time for the Club. The Club was closed for a period of time and staff were furloughed. The Club continued to follow Government Guidelines. During the period the club was closed new Risk Assessments were introduced, deep-cleaning of the mobile classroom, repair work carried out in the classroom. Staff were re-trained in new procedures due to Covid-19 ready for when the Club was to re-open.

The Club were fortunate to get two small grants one from Wrexham County Borough Council and we were also entitled to Furlough payments for staff wages. If it was not for this assistance, it was quite possible staff would have had to be let go/made redundant and the Club would have used all the emergency contingency fund and probably had to close down. During the pandemic we managed to pay all our expenses including the rent on the mobile to Wrexham County Council.

Brief Overview April 2020 – March 2021

April 2020

During April 2020 the Club opened for Key Worker Children and for Vulnerable Children over the Easter Holidays as the Rofft School was not open for these children. We agreed to do this as we wanted to assist Key Workers and vulnerable children. The Club ran at a loss during this period.

May 2020

Due to Government Guidelines the Club did not open during May.

June 2020

The Club was closed and on 23[rd] June we had a meeting to discuss the summer opening and how the Club was going to move forward.

July 2020 & August 2020

We sent out information to parents and carers and there was a need for childcare during the school holidays for Key Workers and vulnerable children. We averaged 6 children each day. We managed to secure a “Moon Dance Grant” that assisted us with our expenses – wages and utilities. Again, the club made a considerable loss during this time.

September 2020

We returned to school after a success Holiday Club even though we made a loss in revenue. We opened for two training days. The Before School Club was extremely quiet as school opened at 8.30am each morning. Numbers were lower at the After School Club but we continued to offer the service.

October 2020

We continued to run Before and After School Club. Two staff remained on Furlough. We opened for 4 days for the October Half-Term. We requested from Wrexham County Council to carry our repairs on the Exterior of the building.

November 2020

The Club continued to open numbers increased slightly. We promote a FunTime Club for children or Nursery Age. We set up a Web Site for the TEMPD and a new G-mail account for TEMPS.

December 2020

During December we opened Before and After School Club while the school was open. We did not open the Holiday Club in December.

January 2021

Numbers at the Before and After School Club continued to be low. This was due to parent’s/carer’s working from home or being furloughed and did not need the service.

February 2021

In addition to the Before and After School Club we opened the Holiday Club for the February Half-Term 4 days. Numbers at the TEMPS still low but again some parent’s / carers did not need the Club as they were still working from home or furloughed.

March 2021

Due to low numbers attending the Club we found it necessary to put some staff back onto Furlough. We were waiting for information from Welsh Assembly regarding how schools were going to move forward. Our plan was to open the Club during the Easter Holidays in April.

TEMPS Holiday Club

During July 2020 and August 2020 we ran the Holiday Club for 6 weeks of the School Holidays we had around 24 children using the service each week. This number was low so income did not cover our expenditure but we used some of our contingency funds.

The Children enjoyed their time at the Club for a lot of them they had been isolating and this was the first time they could play safety with their friends. We did a variety of tasks including craft, sporting activities, cookery etc. A lot of time was spent outside. We did not run any trips during this period.

TEMPS Fun Time Club

Due to COVID restrictions it was difficult to promote the Fun Time Club but feedback from Parents & Carers that there was interest in this facility and we choose to continue and hopefully from September 2021 we will have around 12+ children attending this Club on a regular basis.

Before School Club April 2020-March 2021:

Numbers were extremely low so we reduced staff so there was only one member of staff on duty between 7.45 and 8.45am. There were staff in school so we implemented this for a short period of time.

After School Club:

We had around 24 children attending the After School Club. This is a lot less than pre-pandemic levels.

Good News since September 2021 these numbers have increased to prepandemic levels.
