During the reporting year the following initiatives have helped preserve and protect the good health of our members:

1. A wood lathe we purchased at the end of the previous reporting period was installed. As a result, members have been learning new skills thanks to training sessions given by a member proficient in woodturning.

2. We have also purchased a bench saw which has enabled members to enhance their woodworking abilities and improve the quality of wooden items they make.

**Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)**

3. Our participation in a local raft race helped members develop teambuilding skills by designing and building a raft and participating in the event while raising over £1,000 for Cardiff City Hospice.

4. In addition to making our range of ecofriendly wooden items for sale, we participated in an ‘Eco Day’ run by a local environmental group and made a picnic bench from reclaimed timber for the Cardiff Global Garden Project.

5. To help foster the social and fellowship aspects of the Den, members visited the new BBC studios in central Cardiff and the Viridor Incinerator plant in Cardiff Bay.

6. Members continue to benefit from the social sessions at our local Hub particularly when talks are given, such as the presentations by visiting speakers on dealing with anxiety and internet scams. Members also give talks themselves which helps them improve their confidence and public speaking skills.

All trustees have read and have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit.

## **Additional details of objectives and activities (Optional information)**

You **may choose** to include further statements, where relevant, about:

Section D Achievements and performance

## **Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year**

Our participation in the local raft raised resulted in us raising over £1,000 sponsorship money for Cardiff City Hospice and being awarded the runners up cup.

In September 2023 one of our members won a prestigious photography competition run by The UK Men’s Shed Association.

We had the honour of being invited to the opening day of the new Wellbeing Garden at Maindy Barracks for which we had made a number of wheelchair friendly raised plant beds and a bench.

To enable more of our members to access our allotment, we applied for and were granted the status of a Community Tenancy Organisation by Cardiff Council.

During the reporting year several new members joined who now benefit from the friendship and camaraderie the Den has to offer.

We have continued to expand the range of wooden items we make and have increased the number of venues where we display and sell those items and promote the Den.

**Details of any funds materially in deficit**

## **Further financial review details (Optional information)**
