## **A Year of Change and New Beginnings** 

This year, Project Why UK has continued in its new era - with the changes to its trustee board last year bringing new experience to the board. Project Why UK has continued to develop its own website (www.projectwhyuk.org) and focused on its social media content to raise awareness and support for the charity. 





One of our trustees visited Project WHY in Delhi during the 24/25 financial year. Their visit was nothing short of inspiring. Spending time in the classrooms, meeting the wonderful children and seeing their enthusiasm firsthand was a true privilege. The teachers’ passion and unwavering commitment shone through in every lesson, creating an atmosphere of hope and possibility. Our trustee was deeply touched by the kindness and warmth with which our trustee was welcomed and our trustee left feeling uplifted by the students’ vibrant spirit and the transformative impact of these remarkable schools on each and every child. 




## **Continued Partnerships** 

We have been excited to continue our partnership with Pahli Hill, a London-based restaurant that chose Project Why UK as their charity partner. Through this collaboration, Pahli Hill has generously donated £2,943 in this financial year. These funds are restricted funds for Project WHY India. This partnership not only provides us with valuable funds but also helps raise awareness of Project WHY Delhi’s work. The trustees continue to be grateful to Pahli Hill for their commitment. 


## **Grants made to Project WHY India** 

Project WHY UK made a total of £5,816 in grants to Project WHY India during the financial year, in accordance with its grant-making policy. This policy details, in particular, the process by which grants can be applied for and the decision process followed by the trustees in respect of any such application. 

A total of £2,616 was granted to Project WHY India under the “sponsor a teacher” campaign. 

A total of £3,200 was granted to Project WHY India in general grants. These grants included funding for providing food at the nutrition programme at the early education creche, speech therapy for 2 students, funding the salaries of teachers who are not sponsored as part of the “sponsor a teacher” campaign and a contribution of funds towards a children’s outing to celebrate their hard work. 

The trustees have received feedback and post grant reporting in the form of receipts, photographs and discussions from Project WHY India as to all grant funds. The trustees are also continuing quarterly meetings with Project WHY India to receive an oral report and work collaboratively on furthering the charity’s objects. The trustees of Project Why UK also receive quarterly reports from Project WHY India and daily reports of events, moments and updates on the students and teachers that Project WHY India supports. 



## **Project WHY UK Funding Initiatives and Support** 

## Teachers’ Salaries 

Through its successful ‘sponsor a teacher’ campaign, Project WHY UK continued to receive recurring donations, which were specifically ring fenced for contributions to the salaries of particular teachers. These teachers are from underprivileged backgrounds and still live in deprived areas. Donations under this scheme totalled £2,712. 

A total of £2,616  was granted under the “sponsor a teacher” campaign. The difference between the two figures is accounted for by some donations still being held by the charity at the 24/25 year end as restricted funds for this campaign. 

## Gift Aid applications 

The trustees submitted 3 gift aid applications during this year for the tax years 2019/2020, 2020/2021, 2021/2022. This resulted in payments totalling £1,211.52 from HMRC. Of this, £407.50 is unrestricted funds (gift aid resulting from general unrestricted donations) and £804.02 is unrestricted funds (gift aid resulting from restricted donations). Ongoing Donations 

Project WHY UK benefits from a number of regular donations and the trustees would like to thank everyone who donated over the 24/25 financial year for their ongoing support and generous donations, in particular over a year that was particularly tricky for lots of people during the cost of living crisis in the UK. 

## **Summary of Accounts** 

The following figures are rounded to the nearest £ in line with the accounts. Donations received totalled £8,993 during the financial year 2024 to 2025. Of which: General donations totalled £2,126. 

Donations ring fenced for the “sponsor a teacher” campaign were £2,712. 

Donations ringfenced for Project WHY India from Pahli Hill Restaurant in London were £2,943. 

Donations from HMRC for gift aid payments totalled £1,212. Of which £408 was unrestricted and £804 was restricted funds in relation to donations from the “sponsor a teacher” campaign. 

Funds provided to Project WHY India totalled £5,816 during the financial year 2024 to 2025. Of which:

Project WHY UK cash assets were £4,776 at the start of the 24/25 financial year and were £7,938 at the end of the 24/25 financial year.

Project WHY UK is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) governed by a foundation constitution. Its charitable purposes are: _“To further such charitable purposes (charitable under English Law) as the trustees see fit from time to time in particular, but not limited to, the advancement of education for the public benefit and the relief of poverty in India, through the provision of grants to charities and organisations furthering such purposes. To the extent that the Sri Ram Goburdhun Charitable Trust (Registered Charity Number S32978, India, its field based programme being known as Project WHY India), makes recommendations to the trustees to further these objects, the trustees may promote these objects through the provision of funds to the Sri Ram Goburdhun Charitable Trust.”_ 

Public benefit (SORP 1.18) 

In the course of their duties, the trustees of Project WHY UK confirm they have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit. Trusteeship and organisational structure (SORP 1.25 and 1.51) 

In accordance with Project WHY UK’s constitution, trustees are appointed by a resolution passed at a properly convened meeting of the current charity trustees, having regard to any potential candidate’s skills, knowledge and relevant experience. 

The charity was incorporated as a CIO on 15 August 2019. Two of the charity’s founding trustees retired and two new trustees were appointed during the 23/24 year. All trustees give their time voluntarily and receive no remuneration or other benefits. 

The trustees regularly communicate electronically and hold meetings to discuss both fundraising initiatives and to review their trustee duties and discuss any grant requests from Project WHY India. During the financial year, all trustee meetings were held electronically in order to allow the trustees to meet regularly given they are located in various locations across the UK. 

## Banking and property 

Project WHY UK’s bank account is held in the organisation’s name, as a CIO, at Lloyds Bank. As such, none of the trustees hold title to any property belonging to the charity, nor are any funds held as a custodian trustee on behalf of others.
