Penrith Community Hospital League of Friends

Trustee Annual Report

Charity No 1184871

Welcome to our Trustee Annual Report for 2022/2023.

During 2022/2023 the League has continued to support the patients of Penrith Hospital and the Community. We have held “face to face” meetings and have obtained approval from Trustees for Grants and expenditure.

I would like to thank all the Trustees and Associates of the League for their continued support. Sadly, we lost one of our longstanding Trustees and past Chairman this year. Lorna Sharpe had been a key part of the League for many years and will be sadly missed.

Although we have not held any fundraising events this year we have continued to receive donations from patients and relatives. The District Nurse teams have also arranged a raffle and a Bingo night to raise funds for the League. Total income for the year amounted to a fantastic £9384.

Eden Unit reopened after refurbishment in August 2022 and the League was able to add the finishing touches by purchasing 20 Patient chairs, 2 recliner chairs and other “extras” at a total cost of £15700.

We were also able to fund 3 Dopplers for the District Nurse teams which have proved invaluable for assessing patients in their own homes, and preventing travel or admission to Hospital. The cost of these was £2800.

Podiatry benefitted from the purchase of 2 nail drills at a cost of £1550.

We also helped the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Physio team with the purchase of 2 Exercise bikes for their outreach clinic at a cost of £1643.

The League was pleased to assist with the 2 garden projects. The Forget-me-Not garden funded by a grant from North Cumbria University Trust, and a new area in memory of Caroline Evans called “Carolines Garden” which was funded by donations from friends and family.

The League’s total expenditure for the year amounted to £25153.

I have continued to serve as NCIC Trust Partner Governor on behalf of the League of Friends for the Community Hospitals and have now visited and inspected several of the Hospitals. This has proved enjoyable and has given me an insight into the challenges each Hospital faces.

Finally I would like to thank all the teams at the Hospital and in the Community who work so hard to keep everyone safe and well. The League looks forward to supporting them in 2023/2024.

Linda Bell

Chairman October 2023
