## **REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES FOR THE PERIOD ENDING 30[th] MARCH 2024**

The Trustees of Severalls Bowls Club Charity present their annual report and accounts for the year ended 31[st] March 2024 and confirm they comply with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011.

## **OUR AIMS**

To provide the facilities to practice the sport of lawn green bowls for its members and the local community as a whole in a friendly environment with special emphasis on ‘ **FRIENDLY’.** It is an unfortunate occurrence within most sports clubs to have a hierarchy of players. This we wish to eliminate, giving everyone an equal chance to participate in any game.

After the completion of the 2024 season, we were approached by a staff member of our neighbours, The Colchester Therapy Centre, enquiring about the possibility of using the club facilities for patients, mainly in strengthening arm and leg muscles. It was agreed that they should be invited to the club nearer the start of the 2025 season to discuss this.

## **ACHIEVMENTS AND PERFORMANCE**

The Trustees and committee will provide internal competitions, Club singles, pairs, triples and fours games, plus Borough competitions and social inter-club friendlies. In the past we provided singles competition for ladies, but it has since been agreed, using equality, that all competitions should be mixed. We have also decided not to enter any County competitions as these require players of a certain standard which, unfortunately, leads to the hierarchy that we wish to avoid.

Last season we achieved third place in the ‘B’ division Borough Fours, which enabled us to remain in the ‘B’ division and avoid having to play against the hierarchy of other clubs. We entered two teams in the Borough Triples division; the ‘A’ team finishing mid division and, unfortunately, the ‘B’ team were relegated to the third division.

The membership increased by ten, all thanks to a highly successful open day.

## **VOLUNTEERS**

We wish to thank all our volunteers for the continued support of maintaining the Bowling Green and surrounds.

## **BUILDINGS AND INFRASTRUCTURE**

Our past treasurer and charity contact member, Karl Douzier, obtained plans and building permission for a new clubhouse. Unfortunately, it has been decided that the expense of this was way beyond our means and we are now considering a module structure which we will be looking into. A meeting was arranged to discuss obtaining a grant for this.

A grant of £2,000 was obtained from the Local Council to upgrade our toilet and washroom facilities, with the club making up the balance from funds.

## **FINANCIAL REVIEW**

At the 2024 A.G.M. it was proposed that the membership fee should remain unchanged. We have no debts.

A maintenance budget for machinery has been agreed.

The Colchester Therapy Centre, our neighbours, use a designated area of our car park, for staff parking during the week, which has been of financial benefit to our club. We have no funds held by custodian trustees.

## **STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT**

The Trustees were elected by our members at our 2024 A.G.M. The committee officers are elected to serve for a three-year term, ensuring a three-year gap between each officer coming on and off the committee. The remaining committee members are elected to serve one year. The officers and committee members can be re-elected if they wish to serve

The committee are responsible for making decisions regarding the safe and efficient running of the club, including how funds are used to the benefit of the club and the community. The committee meets four times in the playing season and twice in the closed season. The A.G.M. takes place at the Spring meeting at the beginning of the season. An annual dinner and prize giving is held in November.
