## South Worcester Lifesaving and Lifeguard Club 2024

This year has been the clubs 50th year!

What a milestone for a voluntary club, we thank members past and present for their time in making this club a success, teaching personal and rescue lifesaving skills to others in our community.

We have celebrated with a Rookie Gala and BBQ celebration, it was great to see past members come along to support us.

Our Patrol/Flood team have continued to support local events with First Aid and water cover.

Adding our awards to our club membership has been popular and we have processed rookie and National lifesaving Academy awards for all our younger swimmers.

Those that compete in lifesaving sport have had great success at Speeds, SLSGB and NLSC championships.

A big thank you to Zephir Ltd for a donation towards our club.

Finally, thank you to the committee for their support and to all our teachers who turn up each week we can’t run the club without you

## Our Club 2024

We have had another busy year with lots of different activities taking place within our club.

Currently we have 95 members in our club.

We are receiving many new members enquires through our club website some of whom will hopefully be joining us in the new year.

This year we have continued to roll out the new NLA awards which is now taught on a 2-term basis.

With this new introduction the teaching structure of all the sessions; including Rookie has been amended to try and be more varied which has received positive feedback to date.

We cannot stress the importance of the teachers and helpers; without their time and effort no sessions could take place.

This year we have had a healthy influx of new teachers who have recently complete their training, this is welcome and will secure our future teaching ability. We have also welcomed three new classes in session one and hope they continue to enjoy their sessions.

To celebrate our 50 years, we had a Rookie Gala which was a huge success, and all our thanks goes to the competitors and helpers who made it a very special event.

Many thanks to all the teachers and helpers and I hope all the junior members have enjoyed their lessons and will continue to join us each Sunday.

Club patrols having been ticking over. At the start of the year, we were struggling with numbers and if it wasn’t for the effort by Adrian Smart this side of the section would have collapsed. But out of the fire came new members which have shown interest in both patrols and flood rescue training, so the second half of the year has been a remarkable change with commitment and training regularly.

DEFRA/FIRE did their annual audit, and we were the only organisation ‘ever’ to get the report ‘outstanding’. However, there are a recommendation to improving how we log training. A system shown to us called D4H is an electronic system that online can show audits and policy very quickly and is the preferred choice by the government. The procurement of this is now much need also as

our records are looking like a small rain forest and having to keep all these records along with potential future records is proving very difficult. Also, all electronic documents can be moved onto the system and be updated instead the annual print off and update going into more folders!!!

Deployment wise. The club was requested to Northamptonshire where a major incident was declared. The team help with other flood teams to evacuate over 1000 people with the club’s operations was set to work the night shift in difficult conditions.

Finally, the club members who have served over 5 years on the patrol/flood team were honoured by the HRH the King with service medals which is also a first for the club.

We have had members of South Worcestershire Lifesaving competition squad at 7 different competitions including international representation! Once again, our competition did us proud brining back many medals bronze, silver and gold and lots of Personal best times.
