The Trustees have been encouraged by the success of the Alive to the World programme in Trinidad,
usin8 books developed by the UK team. These were now being piloted in over ICKS schools.

The Trustee5 noted the Trinidad Communities Alive group's steady progress, working first in primary
schools before beginning to pilot resour￿5 at secondary level.
The Trustees further noted that keys to Success include:
Training. Educators are trained specifically in teaching Alive to the World, using o format and
materials supplied by ALAFA, the pro8ramme creators in Venezuela. Teachers, school
governors and also volunteers are trained and kept UFFto-date with refresher courses.
Volunteers are made up of parents and studentlyoung professional mentors, both of whom
ontribute invaluably to the programme's success.
Mix offoith ond5tote sch1￿15. The mix of sthools taking up the programme helps to give it
credibility.
Supportfrom the Ministry of Educotion. Havin8 the backing of the regulatory authorities is
critical to the programme'5 acceptance.
