Incorporation and Objectives

HBKA was incorporated as a charitable incorporated organisation and registered with the Charity Commission on 5 August 2019. It was established in order to assume the role formerly undertaken by Hertfordshire Beekeepers Association ("Closing Charity"), an unincorporated charity. It commenced this role with effect from 1 January 2020 and was endowed with an initial capital by the Closing Charity equal to the assets it then held less those assets attributable to its regional branches, which were distributed to their successor organisations.

The objectives of HBKA, as set out in its constitution, are "to promote and further the craft of beekeeping within the County of Hertfordshire and to advance the education of the public within the County of Hertfordshire in the importance of bees in the environment."

Affiliated Local Associations ("ALA")

Seven regional beekeeping associations covering Hertfordshire, which were established in place of the branches of the Closing Charity, have become affiliated to HBKA pursuant to clause 9 of the constitution; affiliation provides automatic membership of HBKA to members of the ALA in designated classes, and this in turn provides membership of the British Beekeeping Association ("BBKA") to those members. There are currently 751 members.

Activities

Activities in 2020 have necessarily been severly limited by the constraints imposed by government in response to Covid 19. A spring conference had been planned, and will be a usual feature of the annual calendar in future, but had to be abandoned. A well received talk was given via Zoom by Celia Davis in October to members on the many and varied uses of nucleus colonies.

Annual General Meeting

The first AGM of HBKA will take place on 26 January 2021 via Zoom.

Independent Examiners Report to the Trustees of HBKA

I report on the accounts of HBKA for the period from incororation to 31st December 2020 ("Accounts").

Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner

As trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the Accounts. It is my responsibility to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

Basis of independent examiner's report

My examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by HBKA and a comparison of the Accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the Accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently I do not expressed an audit opinion on the view given by the Accounts.

Independent Examiner's statement

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:
