Objectives and Activities
The purpose of the charity is to support families whose lives are affected by mitochondrial disease. To raise awareness of mitochondrial disease. And to raise funds for research into mitochondrial disease, as well as giving families days out where they can come together with others, share experiences and understanding of the same or similar issues affecting each other.
The objectives are to enhance the lives of people who have a degenerative disorder for which there is no cure or treatment. Because it is a rare condition and people often feel isolated, allowing people to meet others going through the same thing.
We offer a family fun day out in places all over the country. Sometimes with a medical expert present to inform the family of any new developments in the field of mitochondrial disease. New medications or trials.
As the condition can be quite isolating we feel it is important to ensure the mitochondrial families we support feel included and part of our ‘mito family’.
We have continued monthly zoom calls with the families which have been very useful and have had encouraging feedback. The fact that Leigh Network has been inclusive with the families has had a positive outcome and means so much to our supporters.
Leigh Network continues to deliver blankets to sick children spending time in hospital.
Also butterfly boxes to families who are struggling with coming to terms with diagnosis.
We were able to have a family day at Newcastle Science centre, where many families attended and we had a doctor and researcher in attendance.
Leigh Network were delighted to be able to give a donation to research into Leigh syndrome.
We continue to raise funds, by doing sponsored events, coffee mornings, folk night (mito on the mic)
We will carry over £8640.95 to next years accounts.
Going forward means with continued fundraising we can deliver our promise to our families of fun days out, mitochondrial awareness and donations into research.
