Trustees Annual Report

From January 2021 To December 2021

Charity Name - Leigh Network Registration No. 1184735

Objectives and Activities

The purpose of the charity is to support families whose lives are affected by mitochondrial disease. To raise awareness of mitochondrial disease. And to raise funds for research into mitochondrial disease, as well as giving families days out where they can come together with others, share experiences and understanding of the same or similar issues affecting each other.

The objectives are to enhance the lives of people who have a degenerative disorder for which there is no cure or treatment. Because it is a rare condition and people often feel isolated, allowing people to meet others going through the same thing.

We offer a family fun day out in places all over the country. Sometimes with a medical expert present to inform the family of any new developments in the field of mitochondrial disease. New medications or trials.

As the condition can be quite isolating we feel it is important to ensure the mitochondrial families we support feel included and part of our ‘mito family’.

Following on from the pandemic we have continued with monthly zoom calls with the families which have been very useful and have had encouraging feedback. The fact that Leigh Network has been inclusive with the families has had a positive outcome and means so much to our supporters.

We continue to raise funds. We encouraged others to get involved with a challenge we called Take a Chance Challenge, where supporters took on their own challengers and got sponsors for Leigh Network.

A 5 K bike ride was done as a sponsored event by a mito warrior.

We received a donation to enable us to give families a special gift through the post for the whole family to enjoy. We gave this the name Butterfly boxes. We continue to do this for our families. We continue to send out small gifts to children who are going through a hard time with their health or spending time in hospital.

We did not have any family days out this year still with the worry of the COVID epidemic. However we have still tried to fundraise.

We will carry over £11,168 to the next years accounts.

Going forward means with continued fundraising we can deliver our promise to our families of fun days out, mitochondrial awareness and donations into research.
