Trustees Annual Report
From August 2019 To December 2020
Charity Name - Leigh Network
Registration No. 1184735
Objectives and Activities
The purpose of the charity is to support families whose lives are affected by mitochondrial disease. To raise awareness of mitochondrial disease. And to raise funds for research into mitochondrial disease, as well as giving families days out where they can come together with others, share experiences and understanding of the same or similar issues affecting each other.
The objectives are to enhance the lives of people who have a degenerative disorder for which there is no cure or treatment. Because it is a rare condition and people often feel isolated, allowing people to meet others going through the same thing.
We offer a family fun day out in places all over the country. Sometimes with a medical expert present to inform the family of any new developments in the field of mitochondrial disease. New medications or trials.
As the condition can be quite isolating we feel it is important to ensure the mitochondrial families we support feel included and part of our ‘mito family’.
Before the pandemic took hold we were continuing with fundraising and had a charity race night and sold handmade cards and received donations in lieu of Christmas cards.
We were able to have a family day out for the families to Roundhay Tropical gardens Leeds.
At Christmas we had a table at a fayre. And a donation bucket in the local town centre.
Due to the pandemic we have been unable to meet up as a group in person with our families. However we have had monthly zoom calls with the families which have been very useful and have had encouraging feedback.
We set up a Leigh Network Virtual Art Exhibition, where the families could show a piece of their artwork on social media.
We had a fundraiser of a pedal dash during lockdown.
The fact that Leigh Network has been inclusive with the families especially during the pandemic, has had a positive outcome and means so much to our supporters.
Our financial position going forward means with continued fundraising we can deliver our promise to our families of fun days out, mitochondrial awareness and donations into research.
Funds to be carried forward to next year are £8915. There has been a build up of funds due to the continuation of fundraising but not being able to have days out etc. Looking ahead this will be spent in the future when the covid restrictions have lifted and vulnerable people feel it is safe to go out again.
