the communty in the vicinity of Poole. Wg run 8ctivth.es 8nd ev8ntS th8t are
3V8i18ble to all, wa have a m$mbarship of around 89 and we run a comrnunity
gallery where non-commercial groups and individuals can exhibit th8ir work to
the public.
The art Society is opan to anyonè to join, regardless of ability or experience.
The activities run by PEDAS include workshops, demonstrations. '•n
activib'6s and trips to visit art and cutiural destinations and gv8nts. Al th839
are open lo members of the public and ara prornotsd as such.
We run weekty and rnonthly programrn8s of *v*nts, involving 8 wid& rangè of
tOPiCS 181ating to art practice and appreciation. These are advertised on our
W8bsrt8 and s¢Ki81 medi8 and we encourage visitors and non-memb6rs to
attend and join in.

gltualed wthin the local council run Upton Country Park IUCPI, Poolg and
fomis part of their teisure and recr98tion facilitias.

public every year. They will include partnership with tha manÈgement of
Upton Ctsuntry Park as part tsf thèir public programm8 of artivilies and events
in the recr8ational park.
We may also work in partnership in these ventur&s wth oth•r individualsl
organigations invdvad in community art.
7. Summary of thg maln achl•vèmènts and bgngfits during thè year:
In p18nning our activities for the,year. we kept in mind the Charity
Commission's guidanc* on pubnc banèfft at our tYu81ges' mg91ings.
Art activities for rnembors and non-members
W8 hold our regular w88kly art 8divty sessions each Wednesday afternoon
be￿Oen Septemb8r and &arly May. Our av&ragè attend8nce in 2023 w8$ 23
and this nornally includes 3-5 non-fflernb8rs. We had 67 visits frorn 29 peopl&
over 2023. We also hold a session on the first Sunday of each month. This
givès an alt*rnatiV8 to P80p18 who cannot 8ttend on Wednesday aftemoons.
The cost of paying external professional tutors has risan significbntly. so wg
have reviewed the content of our sessions to bs more s8lf-suffici8nt. In
J8nu8ry th8re was a coach trip to London to visit the Cezann& Exhibition at
the Tat6 as well as tha Winslow Homar Exhibition 8t Th8 N8tion81 Gallery.
Ovgr th8 summer period we operate an 'En Plein Air, weekly programme for
mambors and non-mambers alike. During this 8umm8r period we schedule
collegial m88t-ups with olhgT 8rt groups.
In Octob8r, PEDAS m8mb8rs arranged a s81f-funding 5 day tflp to BTussels,
Anlwerp and Ghent. The holiday was also open to members ol other local art
soci8ti8s. Only rf we do not fill our 8llottgd numbefs do we extend the offer to
r*on-members.
2023 finished wth a membership of 89. In 2022 thè m&m￿r$hiP stood at 86.
Following member agmment at the AGM in 2022, in January 2023 our
mgmbgrship fees rose from £30 to £35 p8r person. This is refiected in thè
ac£ounts wth a higher figure lor subscriptions this year. The majority of our
inwrng dorive3 from membership fees. At the March AGM the Committè&
advised we would b8 applying to HMRC for Gift Aid. It Was decided to apply
this with m8mbership renewals in January 2024.
2023 also saw th$ ra-dèsign ol the PEDAS logo and members were asked to
enter their ideas for a new logo. These were discussed at the AGM in March.
We 8v8ntually paid a professional d88ign8r £200 for a successful outcome.. A
new logo was agreed by the end ol December.

W• h8v• b8&n incrèasingty èmbracing dtgilisation in OUT operations and
markets'ng. Not only have we found this to ￿ a more effective way ol roaching
Ihe public, but tt h88 b88n 8 signfficant cost saving. PEDAS n￿slott&[S to
members have bggn bimonthly att8chments to em81I8 but it was fett that the
information could be out of date by the limg th9$8 were received. In August
W8 launchad B now PEDAS Waekly news e-bullelin via a link to our website
which has proven popular and easy lo acc6ss.
We oper8t8 8 ffl8iling list that visitors can sign up to and racowo regular blogs
as 'Friends of PEDAS,. W8 h8V8 8180 b88n d•v8loping th8 society's use of
social and digital media for more effective publicity and prornotion. It answers
our objectN8 to broaden our eommunication about PEDAS and our activitiès
within th614xal community. Out. Facebook and Inslagram accounts now
augment our websrtg and blogs. We monitor the number of'likg$' 8nd
'folkiwers' regularly and tx)th have continued to expand. By the end of 2023
we had ov8r 500 followers on Facebook and Instagrarn api8Ce.
Wa hava implamènt8d on-lina submissions for exhibitions that include n¢)n-
member artists. To rnanage this $p8Ci8Iis8d 8188, Wg h8V8 8mploy8d an IT
8P8a'ali5t. She is paid ort ad houdy rat6 for the work shè undartakas and w
have a simple employment contract in place.

The Gallery Upstairs achieved a full year of exhibitions, 25 separate shows in
total. involving 10 art groups, 5 groups of artists, 4 individuals, 3 tèxti5e groups
ènd 1 poètry group. In total wo opon6d our gallery to 256 amateur artists who
were able to 8xhtbit and sell their work. Wè conts'nu8 to charg6 10%
commission, but in January 2023 we increased our fees from £1 S per day to
£18 per day.
We hoste(I thè prèsèntation for winnèrs ol the Dorsèt Art Pr￿0, op&n to
applicants nationwide and organised by Bourngmoulh & Poole Colbgg. This
is airn8d at attracting young peo￿&. W6 managed tha biennial Upton Country
Park Opon Exhibition again in Decemb8r 2023. This w88 8ntitl8d
Atrnosphar$'. This invrtas all artists within a 15 milo radius to submit work lor
selection by professional judges. This y88r artist Rog8r d81 Seddon agreed to
be our selector. We had 167 entries. Selection was made based on on-line
submissions which rnade the proc988 must mor9 efficienl.
Visitor numb9r3 8cro$$ all the 8xhibitions totalled around 13,900, which 1$ an
incraase of ovor 2,000 on last year, and still marginally down on our pre-
pand8mic figura 0115,000.
Evènts in tha Gallory contribut8d to a total of £2500 boing donated to oth&r
charities.

PEDAS ran an 'Art PTO Loco. èvant in late July in Poolg Park. W6 hiTod an old
ic8 cream KK>8k which the Counal now hirès out to groups for 8v8nts and
activities. Applying this forniat, members of the public and community are
invrted lo draw or paint scenes In the Park and resulting artwork is hung in th&
'osk with th6 public voting for tha winning artist. At th$ 5am0 time wè ran
demonslr8tion$ and workshops. particularfy aimed at children. The event was
widely advertised locally, but this year iake-up was disapsx>inting due to poor
wsathtri. A total of 34 èntriès wèrè submitted. Feèdback from thosè who
attended was posrtive..

with BCP Skills and Learning service. P8rtIClP8nts attend UCP gach Thursday
morning for a six-W88k progiamme which involved PEDAS18ading on8 of thg
practical $g$$ion$ to help engagernenl with creative adiviti'es outside in
notUf•.
8. Policy on regorv•s'.
We do not hold 8 sp￿￿￿C reserv8. Our unallocat8d inry)me is less than £5,000
pa and our expenditure is geared to that on an ongoing basis. We have a
reliable inwmg frorn memb9rship contributions 8nd the g8llery ¢ovgrs Ils
expenses which consist largely of maintenan¢e. As a charity we are able to
bid for grants and achiev8d a gr8nt towhrds tha cost of new lighting for the
Gallery from Low Carbon Dorset. This paid 40% of the cost towards replacing
11 neon tubes with LED. The balance was paid from Gallery funds.

balance for PEDASIGUS account in 2023 was £13.818 The closing balanc•

We do not hovo'rostricted. fur￿S. Only a small amount 8round £50 is
lained as a cash float. We do not own property and our as88ts conslst of
tsbles and chairs lor u38 Iri the gallery, of insigniftcant value.
In January 2023 M8rnbèrghip lees rose to £35 (from £30 in 20221 dug to 8
rise in inflation and hence incragsgd costs.
10. Future pl•n$-
Wo will continu8 With our basic progr8mm8 of avènts, èxhibitions and running
Ihg g81Iary as our'core busin8S5' activities.
We have an objeclNe lo continuo to increa39 our social media presence as
w6 see this as the rnost gffactive vehiclg with which to connect with the Ioc81
public and communities.
As a small charity wth B limitod number of Trusteès #nd other volunteers, we
are conscioLts that we need 19 limit our activity levels to within our rosource
capability. We h8v8 apprtrÈchèd tsyo memb8rs who have agreed to Stand for
election as Truslees at the 2024 AGM. We are planning lor Trust6e
succession, wh￿h is lik81y to present a chall8ng8 8s fèwer members are now
willing to stap up to lake cornmittee rdes and responsibilitl89.
This y8ar has Proven to b8 8Xtr8mtrly busy with the Tru3t88s and volunte
members of tha group planning activitl8s for 2024 which is our Soci8ty's
Centanary Year. A lot of our 8vents will allow us to 8ngaga thè local
commtjnity 8.g. an Art in the Park 8V8nt in June. An Exhibition of artwork by
Irxal schoolchildren along with workshops and 'megt the artists, activities will
be h8ld during Octobèr half t&rm. There will b& sevèral member evgnt8, th9
cost of which will b8 bom8 by tho individual rn8rnb8r5. Wa are planning a
historical Cèntènary Exhibition in conjunction with Pwle Mu$gumlLighthouso
C&ntre lor thg Arts.
