EF UK 2020
For m05t charities. 2020 was a year of disruption and challenge. The global
pandemic and consequent restrirtions on tnovement and social interartion
disrupted our plans of promotional and fund raising activities. Within Eleanor
Foundation UK we have had to rely largely on the use of social media and direct
individual contacts to raise funds and develop awareness. We are hopetul that
conditions in the UK will recover during 2021 and beyond enabling us to raise
our profile.
For Eleanor Foundation generally. the final outcorne for the year wa5 qulte
satisfactory when all is taken into account Totsl funds raised were around IOWO
down on 2019 and a total of just under £150.000 was traELslerred to Eleanor
Foundation Tanzania {EFf) indudinga first time paytnent of £2.500 frorn EF UE
Thss contribution was direrted towards the construction of a further shallow
wells at the village of Nyarutefye in Chato District bringing the total within this
community to three wellg and benefittitlg a further 1800 indiwduals. The first
well wa5 installed in 2014 and £05t around £2300. The fact that we were able to
provide two wells for £2,500 in 2020 is due to the significant increase in
community participaiion that in this case included. for the first time, a financial
contribution.
Generally our activities in Tanzania were imparted by the COVID-19 pandernic
and for a short period our operations were scaled back Following a request from
local government, EFf participated in a programrne to raise public awareness on
the importance of hand hygiene in combatting the spread of C-19. We donated a
number of hand washing points at bus stations, markets and other public areas.
Public meetings were held at population centres and inlormation posters were
distributed.
Although there was a general lack of stats"sts"cs relating to the spread of the virus,
it appears that the more rural areas of Tan7Ania have not been severely
impacted.
At this point we should record our appreciation of the dedicated work
throughout the year of our projert manager Godfrey Gahanga and the team in
Chato and Biharamulo. We have a strong relationship with the district
goyernrnents and also the individual communiLies as evideftced by the letters of
appret12tion received.
COVID-19 has clearly highlighted the need for ourwork given the impact of
global health threats and the need for communities to have access to clean water.
sanitstion and hygiene.
Our commitment towards continuing this work is undiminished.
