(Written April 2025) **Hope For Life** Docusign Envelope ID: 43DE1718-5833-4A92-892A-01F19A4477F7 ## **Section C Objectives and activities** _To advance the Christian faith in such parts of Asia and the world for the benefit of the public in accordance with the statements of belief appearing in the schedule by:_ - 4.1. _The training, discipling and mentoring of young adult Christians in a variety of skills that will enable them to deliver the social out-workings of Christianity and to be agents of change in their home communities and for their people (in particular, but not necessarily exclusively, the Dyak tribes of Borneo);_ - 4.2. _Providing such young people with opportunities to receive ministry into their own lives so as to receive healing and release from childhood and young adult emotional and spiritual wounds, thus enabling them to live lives of freedom and confidence in their identity in Christ;_ - 4.3. _Working to see such young people fully integrated into the local church, actively living as part of the local Body of Christ, and so preparing them to have active supportive ministries in their home communities; which will enable them to fulfil their destiny and calling from God, so that they may be a light to the world, salt to the earth, thus being more effectively able to demonstrate the personal and social out-workings of Christianity._ ## **Additional details of objectives and activities** Hope For Life was started in August 2015 by Chris Tapp whose desire was to provide a means for young adults from the Dyak tribes of Borneo to have the opportunity to grow in a relationship with God, to be discipled and mentored in the Christian Life, and to have opportunities to receive training and education at an appropriate level to give them a firm foundation onto which they could build their lives and be able to provide for their future families and give into and enhance their community. From this Hope For Life was formally inaugurated as a UK Charity on July 27[th] 2019. Hope For Life continues to support 1 student at school and 6 students at university (partially or fully). Hope For Life continues to provide medical care for its beneficiaries, and also for some close family members. Hope For Life has provided training meetings in the Foundations of the Christian Faith, together with many ad-hoc teaching and mentoring sessions. This year HFL arranged for 11 of our students to attend the 3 day School of Healing seminars in Jogya and Jakarta, organised by Yasan Duta Pembaharuan. 8 students attended the level 1 course, and 3 the level 2 course. Hope For Life works closely with several local Indonesian pastors to ensure its beneficiaries receive ongoing and appropriate pastoral support as part of their commitment to church life. Chris Tapp was able to visit Indonesia in January / February 2024 to meet our beneficiaries to encourage them and teach in some local churches. He was also able to attend Roni David and Yuni’s wedding, and also Tono and Kerisi’s wedding. All of the above are designed to fulfil our charitable obligations to benefit the public. ## **Future Growth** The charity continues to operate at (beyond) full capacity and is not currently in a position to support further individuals. Any future individuals that HFL may support would undergo an Application process by invitation of the trustees; would need to have been known to at least one of the trustees for at least a number of months, and be recommended by their local pastor. The trustees would consider any such applications on their merit, and in the light of sponsorship and funding available. The decision of the trustees will be absolute and binding. **HFL continues to seek further volunteers who could support us in our work, and in particular anyone with accounting or website skills. July sees the end of most university semesters, though not all follow exactly the same pattern and dates. He has completed Semesters 3 and 4 this year. He lives in Sintang and works part time to support himself. Takas continues his course in Government Administration and is still obtaining exceptionally high grades. He completed Semesters 5 and 6 this year. He lives with Adi & Eska who also support him. In holiday times he returns to his family in the village and works in the village. He is the son of Adi’s older brother. **Yanti** is fully sponsored by Cornerstone Church, and HFL support her living costs. In September she should have submitted her proposal, however this was delayed. Although she was due to graduate in May this was also delayed due to some Administrative issues. After graduation she plans to return to her home village to teach there **We have also continued to support Endruw (Sah-Roni’s nephew) at school this year** Endruw continues to work hard at Senior High school. HFL were able to help with photos and graduation meal. Roni finally graduated on 5[th] August in Yogya. His Mum & Dad, and sister were able to attend, together with his fiancée Yuni. HFL gave some assistance with travel and a Graduation meal and photos. **WEDDINGS Roni David & Yuni were married in Yuni’s Tono & Kerisi were married in Kerisi’s village – village 18th January 2024 27th January 2024** I was privileged to be able to attend Roni and Tono’s weddings. Yuni’s village is only abut an hour from Bambang’s parents-in law and we travelled togther to the ceramony. We were welcomed with the other guests by traditional dancing. Roni arranged for me to stay in the Pastor’s house overnight. It was a great time of celebration, and I was able to get to know the village pastor. It was also good to meet up with several others that I knew. Kerisi’s village however was a 6-7 hour drive, including a river crossing, and also some challenging roads. We only got “stuck” once and arrived safely. Unfortunately the wedding was the day before our planned HFL teaching day and so we travelled back overnight. The wedding was a simple affair and it was very hot with little shade. I was invited to rest a while in Kerisi’s family house, but it was hotter there than outside. I was also offered a shower – which was sweet news to my ears until I was accompanied to the river ….. Changing and drying etc. in very public few comes with its challenges! There are 3 levels, progressively leading attendees into a deeper relationship with God and helping them to address barriers to Spiritual growth, including generational, relational and traumatic events. HFL sees these seminars as an integral part of our beneficiaries’ connection with us. SOH provides excellent teaching by mature Indonesian nationals who can therefore communicate effectively on a heart to heart level. All those who have attended have testified to the significant benefit they have received. The seminars are held several times a year in different locations. HFL sponsors each person to attend by paying the course fees and travel costs. Where possible each person will attend the 3 levels in successive years, although level 3 is only available on a more limited basis. **Level 1 – August 2023 – Kalimantan Timur** Silwanus attended Silwanus writes: SOH Regular Basic Training taught me about self-awareness as a Child of God, who has been redeemed by Him. So that I can confidently continue to serve. The importance of letting go of past bitterness, etc. I am very moved to free others from traumatic problems, bitterness in their past. It changes the way I think: In facing problems, just forgetting the problem is not enough, I was taught to admit and forgive it. I am interested in learning more about how I should be able to Serve Correctly. In my opinion, SOH is enlightening, awakens my mind and prepares myself in SOH by being served to serve. **Level 1 – November 2023 - Yogya** Handono & Vera attended 7 Annual Report - year end 30[th] June 2024. (Written April 2025) **Hope For Life** Docusign Envelope ID: 43DE1718-5833-4A92-892A-01F19A4477F7 ## **Section D Achievements and performance** **Level 1 – July 2023 – Jakarta -** Yefta & Rachel, Roni David, Sarik and Sah-Roni attended. **Level 1 – March 2024 - Yogya** Marten & Darlin and Yorem attended **,** **Marten:** Marten wrote about how he had become very resentful towards me and ashamed of some issues in his life. However he was able to face up to these issues and receive forgiveness for himself and release his resentment. This led to a complete reconciliation and …… now I release all forgiveness to daddy and I ask for forgiveness for everything I have done that is not pleasing to him. And I release forgiveness to the Lord Jesus and ask for forgiveness from God because I always blame God for every problem in my life. **Yefta:** - God has restored my life by forgiving me and make me to forgive all of my past, I realize that many things in my life was not good and bitterness in my heart, God can break the chain of sin in my life, and he has done it to me and I learned that this method can help others also to be healed **Rachel:** I believe that God has healed me, he has cleansed me from all of the bitterness, wound, trauma and sickness, and all I need is just surrender it all to Him And I hope that God will always strengthen me in every problem in my life and bless my little family. **Darlin:** I realized that SOH is an institution that is not only directed at ourselves but also how we can help others after we have been helped that's why the theme given is served to serve. **Yefta:** I thought before that my life was ok, but He changed many things like the bitterness in my heart and the wound from the past, it affected me in many aspects including my marriage, now It has been healed and I can face my marriage like the way God has teaches in the Bible, When I was a child I felt that my parents could not be a protector for me, so the thought arose that God was also the same - He was unfair and I felt that God was also not a safe place for me to take refuge. My grandmother who used to be my neighbour was a very talkative person and there were some words she said that hurt me so that it made me think that I was a lowly person, and it caused a great sense of shame that made me feel when I met new people. I have forgiven my parents and also my grandmother and forgiven myself for every mistake I have ever made and I know that the things above that I told are some of the deceptions that the devil designed to trap me, so that unconsciously I carry my childhood wounds that can destroy some of my life if not healed. **Rachel** : my life was changing through the lesson, it gives me strength to believe that Jesus has restored my relationship with God, it makes me easy to come to God now and call him Father **Roni D:** The impact in the future will be in my environment, both in the family and social environment. How do I build my own family and my entire extended family. Because there are many among them that need to be restored. It will also impact my relationships with other people, how I will serve people who need recovery. ## **Yorem:** I knew how I had to let go of my problems and I also helped other people to let go of their problems too, Before I was born, when I was still in my mother's womb, my father left my mother, me and my two brothers, so I had time to say to God why I got a **S-Roni:** What really blessed me was how I have to be honest and have to admit the sins that hinder my growth, I have to be honest and open and I am very grateful that I opened everything and admitted it before God, SOH really blessed me. 8 Annual Report - year end 30[th] June 2024. That's what really blessed me. And also I learned to have to forgive, basically there are many things, but this is the dominant one that really gave me. **Sarik:** GOD showed me that every time there is a woman who hurts me very much I really hate and am angry with them, that's the cause. And we pray for deliverance After praying, my soul and body felt peaceful and calm, that was the first release. And in the second prayer we were asked to open our hearts and surrender to GOD There I felt there was an evil spirit that was binding me and making me unable to forget problems of past sins and trauma. The spirit shook my body to the point of my body shaking, crying and as if someone wanted me to be angry but the prayer immediately drove the spirit away father like that who was not responsible for me, my mother and my two brothers, I felt hurt to my father who left us. When I was in SOH I wanted to let him go and not follow what my father did to us and also I also forgave my father and also I said I don't want the devil to deceive me with my family's past problems and I want God to help me every day so that the devil does not deceive me, I want to live in peace with God and my family. I believe in the Lord Jesus is my good father and always helps and protects me, Amen. **----- Start of picture text -----**
Level 2 – June 2024 - Yogya Yefta & Rachel and Silwanus attended
Yefta and Rachel:
God revealed many wounds, unmet emotional needs, and the life
themes each of us has. We learned that many of our negative
reactions, which we thought were harmless, were actually caused by
our parents' patterns and past dysfunctions.
During the four days of SOH, we learned how to pray to break free
from our parents' patterns. Rachel prayed about the abuse she
experienced as a child, forgave the person who abused her, as a
result, Rachel had struggled with accepting Yefta's touch. Despite
being married, Rachel often rejected his touch. After praying and
addressing the root cause, Rachel began to accept Yefta's touch as
a form of love.
For Yefta, many things were revealed, including his bitterness
towards his father. Yefta's father was harsh and abusive during his
childhood, causing Yefta to fear many things, including failing as a
husband/ father. After praying and breaking free from the
dysfunctional family patterns, Yefta now feels much freer and without
fear. Our relationship has gradually healed.
Silwanus:
The activity really helped me understand more about how the Holy
Spirit works for everyone who receives Him.
By surrendering to God the Holy Spirit himself will explain His
intentions for humans without coercion from other people or
individuals, all because God leads.
This activity is very effective in serving in the church with the
congregation.
Business Developments:
It has been a disappointing surprise to see that many of our beneficiaries struggled to find good jobs. In
Indonesia it appears that you need a family member or close friend already in a good position in a
company or organisation to be able to get employed. Even when they have been able to get jobs the
salary is often extremely low. For this reason HFL have sought to encourage our beneficiaries to set up
their own businesses where possible. Some own land and so cultivating the land is an obvious choice.

It provided an income for Darlin for nearly 1 year until she left to get married. Regrettably despite many efforts we were not able to generate enough income to justify continuing for another year. Although it covered day to day costs we were not able to recover the initial outlay of rental or set up. However, many lessons were learned and we hope that it might be possible to start another café in due course. Sadly, we closed the café in September 2023. ## **Bambang café and wood business** Bambang and Lusi have had a difficult year. Their café business has not brought as much income as they had hoped, although it provides for their daily needs they have not been able to repay as much of the HFL investment as was planned. When I visited in January Bambang discussed what he believed to be an exciting opportunity to develop a wood – perfume oil business with his father in law. Bambang would learn the business to continue in the future. Unfortunately this did not work out as planned due to mismanagement by his father in law. HFL invested in this, however this investment was then repaid, but without the expected profit. Bambang then realised he needed to increase his income so he applied for several jobs, however they all meant him living away from home – HFL advanced a loan for him to buy a motorbike, but just before he accepted a position Lusi’s father tragically suddenly died. In November Sarik began to build a substantial hen

egg and meat production.
During this time HFL paid Sarik a monthly salary
and continued to provide funds to buy chicken feed

Medical Issues
This year HFL helped with a number of relatively minor medical issues. Handono’s Mum needed an
operation and Renjos’ baby girl was born by caesarean section, the operations were funded by
Government insurance, but HFL helped with medication. Handono needed dental treatment for an
abscess and will need further treatment in due course.
Chris’ visit to Indonesia – January – February 2024
I visited Indonesia from 9 [th] January – 6 [th] February, and then went on to take a conference in Kolkata. I
was able to meet many of our beneficiaries, often staying with them and their families. We had many
times of sharing and I was able to encourage many in their walk with the Lord. In some cases there
were opportunities for personal prayer and ministry. I am grateful to Ps Mustakim for his invitation to
preach in Sintang and for making his church building available for our HFL Day. I was also invited to
preach at Cornerstone Church in Yogya. Below is a photo snapshot of the visit. More details can be

Others news and personal updates
Handono

commitments and is trying to
plan for his future life. He
set up a fish farm on his
land, but it proved
unsuccessful. He has land
and has spent time clearing
this and planting palm trees.
HFL made a loan to him to
enable him to buy a small
piece of land from a family
member who needed money
for school fees. He bought it
to help another brother Nadi
who has struggled to find
good work and has a family
to support.

operation. We supported with medication costs (although the operation was covered by Government
insurance). In December he was unsuccessful in an attempt to obtain a Government position – the
competition is extremely fierce and Handono made a very credible attempt. In March he needed dental
and began to make plans to build a house. He was able to pay his brother Nadi to begin the building
process – this was win-win – Nadi received income and Handono was able to make good progress. HFL
helped with some of the costs.

She lived in Pontianak in the family house and was repsonsible for caring for her younger brother and sister. HFL helped with a loan to buy a motorbike to enable her to get around Pontianak. It proved to be very difficult to get a job – even with the highest Nursing qualification. I was very grateful for her support in January and February when she (& Sah Roni as driver) accompanied me as translator and guide for the 3 weeks I was in Kalimantan. In May Vera was still applying for jobs in a large private hospital in Pontianak. Despite completing her Professional training she had needed one final short course and HFL sponsored her for it. Also at this time she was helping Handono find a good dentist for his treatment and accompanied him for treatments. **Sah Roni** moved to Sanggau in July and shared a koste with Handono. From time to time he helped Handono with collecting palm fruit, whist working for Nathan. He was able to return to his village and prepare some palm seedlings ready to plant on his land the following year. He also unsuccessfully applied for the Government exams. He was my driver in January and February. The work with Nathan finished and he was unsuccessful in securing another job. Yefta spends time helping locals with practical projects and teaching them skills. Rachel works full time for Partly (Nathan’s compnay) and acts as a co-ordinator and manager for the other Indonesian workers. HFL support Komang via Yefta & Rachel with money to buy phone data so she can continue her studies at school (left below) Yefta and Rachel with Komang and her grandmother (Nenek) who looks after her We spent 2 days together in January and I was able to spend time specifically praying for Rachel and Yetfa. They have made some links with World Outreach International and in May attended a training conference at which they met some long term friends from Living Waters Village. In June Yefta finished working for Partly and focussed on ministry and outreach full time. Myself with Komang Enjoying a meal in A time of ministry with Lombok with Yefta and Rachel in their home Rachel Yefta met old friends from LWV at a World Outreach Training Conference. Adi & Eska continue to work hard. Adi now earns good money as a mechanic and Eska has continued her training as well as having 2 jobs. Eska travelled to Pontianak several times for the practical sessions in her training. They still have 4 or 5 people living with them at any one time, including Eska’s father. Keke helps them by cooking and looking after the house; Takas is continuing his studies. Eska’s niece Lira joined them in April. She has a job and is hoping to train as a midwife, starting in August 2025, however HFL are currently not able to commit to helping her. Adi & Eska are trying to raise funds to support her. In August Adi decided that they should buy a house, and they have managed to obtain a 15 year “mortgage”. They moved in in April, Adi has plans to extend the house to make a second bedroom and bigger kitchen. He has already started this – see photo below. Later he intends to build another bedroom. This is so tat he can continue to support family and other villagers who often need to come to Sintang for medical treatment and need somewhere to stay. Adi helped me with driving on my visit and I enjoyed 3 days stay in their rented koste – see photo to right. This has again been a busy year for HFL with many challenges and
demands. In it all it is very encouraging to see the students grow in their
faith and life skills, as well as performing well at university. HFL is
committed to supporting them all until the end of their studies, and to help
them transition into secure jobs. We hope that they will then be in a strong
position to develop their lives, and to form strong Godly relationships as
the foundation to married and family life, whilst being able to support and
encourage their own local and wider communities.

This is designed to encourage them and help reduce otherwise high credit interest they would otherwise incur. These loans are being repaid, though in some cases individual circumstances have changed, making this more difficult and at a slower rate than anticipated. At various times during the year loans have again been made to the charity, however more of the previous loans have been repaid and at the end of June 2024 the outstanding debt had been reduced from the previous £11,599 to £5713 (though this assumes that outstanding loans made by HFL to beneficiaries will continue to be repaid). In the next financial year the charity needs to continue to make efforts to repay substantial portions of the loans it has received, and ensure loans it has made continue to be repaid in a timely manner. During this financial year the only source of income was from personal sponsorship / donations made by various individuals. HFL did not receive any grants or funding from any other charities or public bodies. HFL benefitted from Gift Aid payments of £1891, a reduction on the previous year’s £2962, and the trustees wish to record their gratitude to those individuals who allowed us to claim the GA rebate on their gifts. HFL received (restricted) sponsorship specifically for 3 of our beneficiaries for university expenses, together with additional directed sponsorship for SOH and Sarik’s Egg Farm, this amounted to £7537 in total.
