## **Who are we?**
The Riverside Parents & Carers Association (RPCA) is a CIO, charity providing free services for children under the age of 5 years old and their families in the London Borough of Southwark.
## **Registration Number: 1184485 Our aims are:**
To provide free regular soft play sessions for under 5s and their parents/carers. We want to keep our sessions free and open to all local families from any social background.
To encourage low-income and economically deprived families to engage in a community activity and have access to help and assistance from other services offered by the London Borough of Southwark where necessary.
For all families to keep engaging and attending our sessions to receive support from their peers, our staff and other professional experts in child development in order to help identify families with additional need that we may be able to support and/or refer.
Our staff members provide a safe, stimulating environment for our families to play, learn and develop and a great platform for parents to meet other parents. Staff members are fully trained to safeguard all children attending our sessions and to help our local families, their babies and young children to achieve the best start in life.
Sessions are held at Salmon Youth Centre, 43 Old Jamaica Road SE16 4TE

## **How we operate?**
We currently have 3 Trustees, who meet regularly typically on a monthly basis along with our Operations Manager.
We regularly advertise and promote the need for additional volunteers and committee members. We are actively looking to add Trustees to our board

## FREE Soft Play Sessions for children 0-5 years old
## **Soft play sessions at Salmon Centre – October - December 2022**
This quarter, was a very hard one as our las long funding from Bermondsey and Rotherhithe Children centre has stopped at the end of September and we were still waiting for a date to pitch for Tideway community funding.
Trustees decided to use our reserves to keep providing our much needed free sessions for the local children and their families and if the constant rise cost of living and energy we wanted to make sure children had a place to play safely indoors.
Unfortunately at mid November we found out that we weren’t successful and we made the hard decision to close our sessions at the end of November. We had 99 children attending that last session and a huge support for the community including Southwark News that came invited by a group of parents that wanted to be vocal against of the cuts.
We also were so happy that Salmon Youth Centre offered the hall free of cost for our Christmas Party and that once more Team London Bridge continuing excelling themselves in provide better for our community and donated presents for all the children.

## FREE Soft Play Sessions for children 0-5 years old
## **Soft play sessions at Salmon Centre – January – March 2023**
After the closing of our sessions last November, we were invited to a meeting at Southwark Council and offered an Emergency Funding to keep sessions open from January to June 2023 to support families to have a warm, safe and clean space to take their children twice a week and that Community Action Southwark would support us on a new path to find new funds and to create next steps for the charity to become more sustainable.
We are so grateful for Anood Al Samerai and all her efforts past and present to keep our sessions open for the community;
Thank you for all the support offered from the local families via kind messages and generous donations to our Crowdfunding page and also for Southwark News and their support in telling the story for the Soft Play sessions in Bermondsey.

## **Soft Play Planning and Development Outcomes and Equality Impact**
## **Soft play sessions**
Soft Play sessions already provide a huge range of skills from babies to children 4/5 years old to confidently develop their: **Gross motor skills:** like crawling, walking, running, jumping, hopping, skipping, creeping and slithering, spinning, turning, twisting, pushing and pulling.
**Hand eye coordination:** like Throwing and catching a ball, bouncing balls, tossing a small bag/ball through hoops, rolling a ball to hit down **.** bottles (bowling) , stringing beads and building a tower block **Balance** Walking on a line, stepping stones, adding movements to a pose ( yoga poses) , obstacle course, crab walk (walking sideways) , sitting /bouncing/hopping on big exercise balls, hopscotch jumping , bowling trampoline, skipping rope.
But during Sport day we set up equipment in different ways and add extra opportunities through play time for them to master different essential skills for the school readiness for their lives.

## **Independent Examiner’s Report to the trustees of Riverside Parents and Carers Association**
I report on the accounts of the above Charity for the year ended 30[th] June 2023.
## **Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner**
The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act) and that an independent examination is needed.
It is my responsibility to:
- examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Act
- to follow the procedures laid down in the general direction given by the commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act
- to state whether particular matters have come to my attention
## **Basis of independent examiner’s report**
My examination was carried out in accordance with the general directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair view’ and the report is limited to those matters set out in the next statement.
## **Independent examiner’s statement**
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:
- (1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements:
- to keep accounting records in accordance with Section 130 of the 2011 Act and
- to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the 2011 Act have not been met or
(2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached
