Achievements and Performance
| SORP reference | ||
|---|---|---|
| Summary of the main achievements of the charity, identifying the difference the charity’s work has made to the circumstances of its beneficiaries and any wider benefits to society as a whole. |
Para 1.20 | The Charity’s sole employee in 2025 was the Children’s and Youth Minister, who carried out his duties supporting the ministry at Emmanuel Church Tolworth. His primary responsibilities were providing leadership and organisation of the Christian ministry for children and young people at the church, which is open to everyone. This included leading the all-age slots in the Sunday morning services; overseeing and regularly leading the groups for children and young people; and organising Emmanuel Church’s support for its mission partners. The employee resigned, finishing employment at the end of March 2025, in order to pursue a Christian ministry opportunity at another church. For the remainder of the year, the trustees remained ready to deploy the resources of the Charity to support the ministry of Emmanuel Church as and when a clear and suitable need became apparent, but none were identified during that period. |
Additional information (optional) You may choose to include further statements where relevant about:
| Achievements against objectives set |
Para 1.41 | During the period, the Charity continued to achieve its aim of helping to advance the Christian faith through the employment of the Children’s and Youth Minister, who carried out his duties in support of the ministry at Emmanuel Church Tolworth. |
|---|---|---|
| Performance of fundraising activities against objectives set |
Para 1.41 | The Charity’s primary objective for fundraising was to try to maintain income to be at least on a par with its expenditure, other than for exceptional items. Overall, the charity had a deficit for the year because the charity’s expenses in the first half of the year were greater than its income, driven by employment of staff and associated housing costs. In the second half of the year, once expenditure on those |
| items had ended, income and expenses closely matched one another. |
||
|---|---|---|
| Investment performance against objectives |
Para 1.41 | The Charity did not set specific objectives in regard to investment performance owing to the relatively low levels of financial reserves. |
| Other |
Financial Review
| Review of the charity’s financial position at the end of the period |
Para 1.21 | The accounts show that the Charity received income in the period of £23,951, versus expenses of £30,640, resulting in a net deficit during the period of £6,689. The main outgoings of the Charity were personnel-related expenses for the employee. Although payroll costs stopped at the end of March, housing costs associated with this employment continued until June. At the end of the period, the Charity held cash funds of £60,921, composed of £60,719 cash in bank accounts, and £202 in tax recovery. The Charity is a leaseholder on a property at Flat 1, 444 Ewell Road, Surbiton, KT6 7EL which is represented on the balance sheet at its cost of £191,618. This flat is let to tenants to gain rental income. |
|---|---|---|
| Statement explaining the policy for holding reserves stating why they are held |
Para 1.22 | The Charity’s reserves policy directs trustees to deploy its financial resources to further the Charity’s objects and not to hoard cash, whilst also seeking to set aside funds when possible to safeguard the Charity’s ability to further its objects in harder financial times. |
| Amount of reserves held | Para 1.22 | At the end of the period, the charity had £60,719 of cash in the bank. All the available reserves were held in cash because the trustees wanted to ensure the Charity always had enough financial liquidity to meet expected cash requirements, plus an appropriate buffer, as long as the Charity had commitments to pay salaries and accommodation. |
| Reasons for holding zero reserves |
Para 1.22 | N/A |
| Details of fund materially in deficit |
Para 1.24 | N/A. |
| Explanation of any uncertainties about the charity continuing as a going concern |
Para 1.23 | N/A |
Additional information (optional) You may choose to include further statements where relevant about:
| The charity’s principal sources of funds (including any fundraising) |
Para 1.47 | Approximately two-thirds of the Charity’s income in the period came from rental of its flat at 444 Ewell Road. Most of the remainder came from regular giving. There were no one-off gifts in the period. |
|---|---|---|
| Investment policy and objectives including any social investment policy adopted |
Para 1.46 | The charity has a reserves policy but not an investment policy because the amount of investable assets (i.e. cash) has been considered by the trustees to be too small to consider investing beyond an instant- access savings account given its outgoings while employing staff. The Charity holds a long-term lease on the property at Flat 1, 444 Ewell Road in Surbiton. This was originally purchased to provide accommodation to employees of the Charity for the better performance of their duties. The property was too small to accommodate the Charity’s employee and his family, so the property is let to tenants to provide a rental income to the Charity. The trustees intend to continue to hold this property to benefit from the rental income, and to be in a position to provide accommodation to potential future employees. |
| A description of the principal risks facing the charity |
Para 1.46 | The Charity’s principal risk in 2025 was liquidity risk given its relatively limited cash reserves, and the material reduction in non- rental income compared to prior years. |
