To promote social inclusion for the public benefit by preventing adults in Northampton and the surrounding area, from becoming socially excluded, and by relieving the needs of those people who are socially excluded.

To promote social inclusion for the public benefit by preventing adults in Northampton and the surrounding area, from becoming socially excluded, and by relieving the needs of those people who are socially excluded.

We are assisting them to integrate into society through the provision of practical facilities in which they can meet jointly or individually to undertake creative, physical or recreational activities, learn or pass on skills and knowledge and support each other socially. 

For the purpose of this clause 'socially excluded' means being excluded from society, or parts of society, as a result of one of more of the following factors: unemployment; financial hardship; social isolation, bereavement, old age or ill health (physical or mental). 

All Trustees have signed the Charity Commission Trustee Eligibility Declaration and are aware of their responsibilities as laid out in this Declaration. 

All Trustees have received a copy of the Charity Commission's booklet: 'Running Your Charity', and 'The Essential Trustee - What You Need To Know, What You Need To Do', and have been asked to study these and refer to them for general guidance.

At the present time all of our activities, including adminisration, are run by volunteers. We have no paid staff.

|**Summary of the main**<br>**achievements of the charity**<br>**during the year**|**NCS Annual Report  to Members, September 2021**<br>**Chairman Phil Osborne**<br>Firstly, thanks to you all for turning up to our AGM at<br>Moulton Scout Hall, which we are using because as yet<br>we have not been given a re-opening date by our<br>landlords, Spencer Contact.<br>Our AGM this year occurs at a time when we hope we will<br>soon be reopening our doors again after closing in March<br>2020 due to the Coronavirus pandemic. This will depend<br>upon whether there are any further lockdowns during the<br>autumn of this year.<br>The unofficial re-opening date will be Tuesday 5th<br>October, but this will be mainly for volunteer maintenance<br>crews to go in and  health & safety check all machinery,<br>clear work stations, clean up, and generally get<br>everything into working order for our official return. We<br>have been allowed one day per week for this, so it may<br>be at least a month or two before we officially open,<br>depending on how many volunteers go in, and upon our<br>landlords, Spencer Contact, deciding when they deem it<br>safe for us to return.<br>Since March 2020, some members have met together<br>occasionally and Keith our secretary has edited and<br>distributed a monthly Newsletter written by members and<br>that has been greatly appreciated by many.<br>I would therefore like to thank Keith for this vital piece of<br>work at such an important time. Keith has indicated his<br>desire to stand down as secretary in the near future,<br>however, he is keen to help whoever should fill this<br>position. He has been a key mover in shaping the shed<br>since we started out at Spencer Contact, and personally I<br>have always been grateful for his sound advice on<br>governance and technical issues in the Shed.<br>In the meantime, the trustees have continued their search<br>for further premises. We registered an application with<br>the UK Lottery Commission in June this year and this is<br>to be followed through when suitable further premises<br>have been found. We are now in discussion with the West<br>Northamptonshire Council about the possibilities of<br>occupying one of their vacant properties.<br>We have continued with sales of donated items during<br>this last year of lockdowns,  where possible, and this has<br>brought in small but worthwhile amounts of income.||

Section D                      Achievements and performance 

During  these very  uncertain times  we  have been fortunate in receiving an annual grant from the erstwhile Northampton Borough Council. This support has been greatly appreciated; though as we develop, new sources of revenue will need to be earned and found. 

Whilst Hars, our Treasurer, will talk more about finances I would  like  to  publicly  thank  the  Trustees  of  Spencer Contact for the generous rebate on our rent during the pandemic. 

During the period of Covid-19 restrictions, when we could not meet together in large numbers, our Shed Management Team organised garden visits to some of our more isolated members. Although no more than six people could be present at a time, these visits helped people tremendously, and became very popular, and in recent months had to be rationed! 

While  we  have  been  unable  to  continue  most  of  the activities of the Community Shed during the periods of lockdown, it has been possible in the periods between to go out and pick up donated tools, materials, and other items, and store and sort these in spare rooms or sheds our  members  have  generously  made  available,  and, where items were not needed by the Shed, sell them on the Internet. The Trustees would like to thank all of those members involved in this activity, which is already raising worthwhile funding at a time when everything else has had to lie dormant. 

So far as individual homework is concerned, a quick look through back numbers of the Shed newsletter will show an interesting variety of projects made by members. Most members will be familiar with these. Any of these back numbers of the newsletter are available if required. 

This work is only made possible due to our members, and the Shed exists for those members to provide a place and opportunity to carry out some workshop projects, but not only  that;  it  is  to  provide  a  place  where  like  minded colleagues can meet up, chat and build on friendships that they may have found here. 

And here they will also find support and comradeship,

especially where they have recently lost close friends and partners, and I hope in some small way we can bring a smile back to their faces and share good memories. 

As ever, we rely on the efforts of members to sustain and develop the Shed. None receive any payment. I want to thank the Team Members, Stewards, Trustees and other appointed members who work with the rest of us to keep the show on the road and grow the Shed’s facilities and membership.
