Our mission is to supply regular shipments of food, warm clothes and other life essentials. ## **Statutory Declaration on Public Benefit** The trustees declare that they have complied with their duty to have due regard to the guidance on public benefit published by the Charity Commission in exercising their powers or duties. ## **Executive Summary** We use Social Media to keep in regular contact with volunteers and organisations working on the ground in the countries we support. This gives us an insight into exactly what is needed and where. It also enables us to confirm to our donors that the aid we send reaches the correct destination. A list of the “People We Support” can be found at the end of this document. We hold regular meetings and work alongside several other charities and groups from Lancashire, The midlands and North Wales. This enables us to make informed decisions on when and where to provide aid and to make the best use of our limited resources. Although some of the aid we supply is sent from the UK, it is often more economical for us to grant funds to charities and groups operating in the areas we support. This money is then used to purchase food and essential items locally, reducing transport costs and supporting their local economy. We obtain original receipts for such purchases whenever possible. ## **Activities, Achievements & Performance** Between March 2022 and March 2023, we were unable to rekindle our ambition to ship any further boxes of aid to other countries, with the exception of one box. This was shipped to Turkey and **Refugee Relief Ynys Môn** Charity no. 1184413 Email: info@rrym.uk Website: RRYM.UK contained baby items and maternity wear for newly registered young Syrian parents who were struggling to provide the usual necessities for their new born son. Similar to last year we have kept monitoring the situation in the hope that things may change for the better, but I fear this has been more in hope than expectation. We came to an arrangement with several other charities, including The Free Shop who transport items of clothing to the refugee camps in Lebanon, and Cribs International who transport suitable clothing, toiletries and foot wear to mothers and children in Athens, which allows us to send aid to their depots in the UK. From there it is put on to pallets or loaded on to containers for shipping abroad. The majority of boxes are now packed courtesy of our trustee, Carys Thomas, who continues to live on Anglesey. Another of our Anglesey based trustees, Betty Williams, continues to be the main recipient of donations. Carys collects from her then takes the items to her home in readiness for packing. Barry and I continue to raise a modest amount for the charity through the propagation and sale of indoor plants and the sale of home-made chutney. We have yet to set up regular fundraising events similar to those we organised on Anglesey. If we decide to do so in the future it will certainly need to involve the recruitment of more volunteers in order to make manning the stall feasible. ## **Cash Donations and Collections** We showcase the work of our charity and request public donations on our Website https://RRYM.UK and on our Facebook page refugeereliefynysmon. This year we have received Donations of **£8,965.51 and** Other income of £0. This includes £600 from the charity “Share” towards our Uganda Library appeal. ## **Fundraising activity** Items which have been donated but which are not required by the displaced people we support are sold either at local events or on social media to raise funds. ## **Talks and Presentations** There were no fundraising events held this year. ## **shipping costs** Due to problems exporting to the EU following Brexit, we have been able to ship fewer donated items for distribution to refugees in Europe. Our biggest expenditure this year on shipping costs was to transport books to our Uganda library, which cost £1,800. We also posted 31 boxes of aid, going to Athens, Lebanon and Turkey, all courtesy of UK charities. ## **Purchasing Aid** Our main expenditure this year has been purchasing essential items and funding vital projects in the countries we support. Some items are purchased in the UK and shipped in the boxes and containers, but most are purchased on our behalf by trusted volunteers in these countries. These included £2,800 towards the Uganda library project and £4,500 to Global Helping Hands to support families living in the Arsal refugee camps. We need this so that we can respond to emergency calls for help. ## **Details of Any Funds Materially in Deficit** The Trustees declare that the charity had no funds which were materially in deficit at the date of the statement of assets & liabilities. ## **State of the Charity’s Finances** Bank Balance plus Petty Cash as of 5 March 2022: £4,757 Total income this year: **£8,966** Total spending this year: £9,914 Bank Balance plus Petty Cash as of 5 March 2023: £3,809. please refer to the accompanying “RRYM Balance Sheet22” Excel Worksheet for a fully itemised breakdown of the charity’s income and expenditure. ## **Restricted Funds** No funds have been restricted for particular purposes. ## **Designated Funds** No funds have been designated for particular purposes. ## **Particulars of Any Outstanding Guarantee Given by the Charity** The Trustees declare that the charity has given no guarantee where potential liability is outstanding at the date of the statement of assets & liabilities. ## **Particulars of Any Outstanding Debt** The Trustees declare that the charity has no outstanding debts which are secured by an express charge on any of the assets of the charity at the date of the statement of assets & liabilities. ## **Declaration** The Trustees declare that they have approved the above report and authorised that it be signed on their behalf by the secretary. ## **The people we support** This document covers the period from 6 March 2022 to 5 March 2023. Occasionally we are able to supply aid directly to displaced people, either in the UK or in refugee camps, who have been referred to us by a trusted volunteer or group. However as we are such a small charity with few volunteers most of the aid we collect is shipped to one of the following organisations, who we trust to purchase or distribute the aid on our behalf. We **Refugee Relief Ynys Môn** Charity no. 1184413 Email: info@rrym.uk Website: RRYM.UK receive frequent reports and photographs of these distributions, which we show on our Facebook page and Website as evidence to our donors that the aid has reached its intended recipients. ## **MK Publishers Uganda** On 28 March, 2022, RRYM purchased a large amount of school text books from MK publishers in Kampala for the sum of £1,018.00. These were duly transported to the library in Kiangwali refugee camp, Hoima, which we were in the throes of financing and setting up. In June 2022, we paid Mat Express Cargo the sum of £1,700 to collect 34 large boxes of donated books, weighing in at 900kg, from our home in Llandudno, before loading them on to a container and transporting them to Hoima for use in the library. ## **Freeshop Lebanon container** We have continued to send aid by way of clothes, footwear and blankets to the Free Shop, Lebanon, providing them with 25 large boxes of aid during the past year. Our boxes are sent to their warehouse in Coventry, from where all in-coming aid is sorted into categories and put on to containers ready for transporting to their depot in Lebanon. ## **Heulwen Lebanon Potato Project** In August the charity donated £1,600 towards an agricultural project that Heulwen had helped establish in Arsal, Lebanon. The Refugee families were able to rent a plot of land on which they planted potatoes, beans, aubergines, tomatoes and onions. The project was very successful and helped to provide many families with a variety of fresh vegetables. Thanks to our contacts on the ground we were able to regularly update our supporters regarding the progress of this project by posting pictures and videos both on our Facebook page and on our Website. ## **Love Without Borders, Athens Food Vouchers** In September we sent £100 to the American charity, Love Without Borders, to help provide the refugee population residing in Athens with food vouchers. ## **ThereYouGo Soap and Toiletries** In September we sent £100 to the small Greek organisation, Thereyougo. Our donation enabled them to buy soap and other toiletries for residents of the new refugee camp which has recently been built on the island of Samos. ## **Hope Project** The Hope Project is a restricted fund under the auspices of Prism the Gift Fund, charity number 1099682. RRYM donated £100 to purchase adult and children’s underwear. ## **Love Without Borders** In September we donated a further £100 to the American charity Love Without Borders to help them with the renting of their newly established community centre in Athens. We used their charity Paypal link in order to transfer the money. **Refugee Relief Ynys Môn** Charity no. 1184413 Email: info@rrym.uk Website: RRYM.UK ## **Turkey Parcel** In November, as already mentioned, we posted a parcel of essential baby items to newly registered Syrian parents residing in Turkey. ## **Lebanon Global Helping Hands** At the beginning of March, 2023, we agreed to work alongside a UK based charity, Global Helping Hands, in an attempt to improve the lot of Syrian refugees struggling to survive under the harshest of conditions in the mountains of Lebanon. We collected and sent £3,400 for winter aid and food distribution, and £1,170 for other aid, including a special one-off party for some of the severely disabled children living in the camps of Arsal. The party was a resounding success and there remain pictures of the event both on our Facebook page and Website. ## **Cribs International** CRIBS International is a UK registered charity number 1173021. They provide homes in Greece for pregnant refugee women and families with new babies. These families have come from camps and squats where living conditions are squalid and desperate. They have fled from war zones, ISIS and the Taliban. CRIBS rents, furnishes and pays the bills for apartments so that women and their families are able to have a place to call their own and a quiet space to recover, close to medical facilities.
