The I￿$¢¢¢S must the income and may use th¢ capithl of the charity in promoling th¢ objectives.

ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE
The Foundation entered an as?reernent in 2021 with Conncct Immune Rucar¢h, a ¢onsortium of national medical r¢search
¢harities comprisin8 primarily of Versus Arthritis, The Muliiplc Sclerosis Society. Juvenile Diab¢tes Research Fund, along
with thc Briiish Society for Immunology io fund research inio the common ¢aus¢s ofautoimtnunity. This Targeting shared
e¢hanism5 in immune-TMediated inflarnwnatory disea5¢5" Inltiative provides rhe opportunity lo think and research ditrerently
in auroimmunity by working across disease areas in the Iranslaiional space. Building on decades of research conduGted tn
individual disease 2re2S, it was umely to invest in a cross-dise8sc approach to identify potential new treatments for people
living with 8Utoirnmunc conditions.
Initially fvnding was offered for 10 pilot Tes¢ar¢h projecis, whi¢h have now been comple*d and final reports received.
Expressions of Interest for PhH5c 11 funding more substantial thding to continue the work in the pilot projects were received
and 4 selected for full applications. Our partner charities for phase I decided noi to ¢oniinue with their funding. so the
Foundation comrnirted to fvnding alone ? research projcct$ for UP to £500.000 each. Decisions will be made in 2024 after
expert ¢xternal rcvicw.
Th¢ Irustees orB&nised a s¢icntific symposiuffl in July 2023 at Aston University covering & day and a h8lf. Researchers
receiving grant5 from the "Targaing Shared mechanisms in immunc-mcdiatcd inflkmmorory diseases
initiative presenred
Iheir results and plxns for fviure work. and were encoura¥ed lo make pot¢nti31 new collaborations. On second day, all 7 PhD
sludenls fundcd by ihc Foundalion PTcscnlcd theif work.
The 7 PhD Sludcntships 2rc now in the process of finishinx their studies And writin¥ up towords compl¢tin8 their doctoral
Ihe5is. On¢ has already r¢ceiv¢d their do¢torate. Assessment of PTO8res5 has bccn through written reports snd presentations
by SUpe￿IS0rS and smdenls either in person or vha Zoom 8nd at Ihe 5ymw5ium in Bimingham. All were Considered by the
Irusiees as progressing saiisfaciorily.
The Irus¢ees agrced to fund a maximum of 2 p0st.doc￿raI Fellowships available to currenr PhD students. A call was
announecd for applicAlion5. ￿ bc dccided upon in 2024.

bcnchmarked igainst vaTiQU5 market indicc5 (including Ihc FTSE WMA Sio¢k Market Balanced Indexl to ensure the
fund5 hcld are PCTforniin8 well. This manager, which is re8ulated by the Financial Conduct Authoriry in the United
Kingdom, manages the inveslmenis within the restrictions sel oul in the inveslmcnt managcmcnt $8rcement. Any issues ore
addressed wilh the trustees a5 and when they arise. The trustees were satisfied with the p¢rform2nce of the invesknents
during ihe period. Investments at the period end had a market Value of £1.712.72212023.. £1.564.2211.
