FOSCP Chairman’s Annual Report 2025/26
On my reflection back over the last year as chairman of the Friends Of Staunton Country Park, I think that I can safely say it has been a mixed one. It’s not been quite what I would call an annus horribilis but one that has seen a certain amount of disruption within our ranks which is something that we have not experienced in the eight years of the groups existence. I am not going to go into the details and dwell on this subject as I would prefer to put it behind us and concentrate on the future. Internally, changes have been forced upon us but with some new additions pending, the future looks very much brighter and we will be stronger, which can only benefit us and the Park going forward. I am looking forward to working with some old Friends Of Staunton Country Park and some new ones in the coming future.
I think the biggest and best thing that we have been involved with this last year is the funding and providing of the tramper. This is mainly down to Michael’s great efforts but also credit should go to many other people who helped to raise funds towards it. I would like to single out for their amasing generosity, the Comrade Lodges with help from Jon and Debbie. The hope towards acquiring a second tramper and the placing of a bleed kit alongside the defibrillator, continues to be an ambition of ours and we will keep our fingers crossed for a positive outcome.
This year we met a lovely lady called Shilo Chou who’s interest in Staunton let to her to donate funds towards our history section which led to us framing and supplying the William Stone Gallery with old photos and a painting which are all related to the old house.
A close connection has been maintained with Tim Speller and his Tuesday gardening group with us funding some plants to enhance the gardens. It has also been great to be kept up to date with the repairs going on around the Park with Anton’s maintenance reports. The reservoir project has been closely monitored with regular reports being distributed. We have also kept up a good connection with The Friends of the Hermitage Stream and The Right To Work. A very good link with the Park has only been possible with their representatives, Becky. Lottie and Divinia, working closely with us and helping to keep a special and important association healthy.
It’s great to end my yearly report on a lovely positive note and I am looking forward hopefully, to continuing into the next year in the life of the Friends Of Staunton Country Park. My most grateful thanks goes to all of the people who have been connected with us in some way, and helped the Park to continue being a special place for all. JimFarrell FOSCP Chairman.
