Trustees' Report 2025
“Our purpose is to promote the preservation, restoration and improvement of Staunton Country Park for the education and benefit of the public.”
Message from the Chairman
I have been the chairman of the Friends of Staunton Country Park from its initial conception in 2017 and official recognition in 2018, to this present date. In this short time, I have seen the group rise to a stable well respected partner of Hampshire County Council while operating within Staunton Country Park. Many projects, some pleasurable and some essential, have been achieved by the members of the group with the help of some very amazing friends and partners of our own. Links have been forged with other community groups to promote the local area to many people further afield.
I have gained great pleasure from my tenure as chairman, being very proud of what the team has achieved so far and wish it to continue far into the future.
J. M. Farrell FOSCP Chairman.

To work collaboratively with Hampshire County Council and other partners at Staunton Country Park to maximise the quality of the park for the public.

Governance
The Friends of Staunton Country Park have eight Trustees who all volunteer their time to help run this charity.

Built in 1828 the Shell House, one of the follies at Staunton, was based on the design of the Chichester Cross and was built mainly of finely patterned flint. The internal walls were encrusted with shells. The Shell House exhibition shows that members of the public who use the park painted a shell and donated funds to the Friends.

Message from the FOSCP President:
I am pleased to have this opportunity of providing a few comments to this report. I am also so proud to be associated with such a great group of people, who have dedicated much of their time into supporting/achieving the various ‘projects’, including the preservation and history of this beautiful ‘Staunton Country Park’. My Great Grandfather William Henry Stone would be amazed to know how well his ‘Leigh Park Estate’ has been maintained over the years (except for his house, built in 1863 and demolished in1959!) for the benefit of all who visit the Park. Sincerely - Edmund J.A. (Ed) Stone.

We are grateful for the contributions made by the local community through
our table sales, local lottery as well as bodies that have provided us with grants during the year.
This year we commenced a major fundraising effort to purchase a mobility scooter for the park. Sports England provided the mechanism and funds in conjunction with Crowdfunder to fundraise for the scooter.
We have received a wide variety of donations for this appeal including Hampshire County Council as well as individuals.
We hope that the success with this appeal will be a driver for future appeals.
Clock reserves were also used to purchase an interpretation panel for the clock display in Coach Houses.
Unrestricted reserves were used to purchase additional storage space for the table sales goods to be held in a secure and dry area.
The reserves policy is to hold 6 months of operating costs.
We will continue to prioritise and allocate funds to pay for improvements in the next financial year. The full financial statements can be found at the end of this report.
