Structure, governance, and management
Governing Document:
Memorandum and articles incorporated 22 Sep 2016 as amended by special resolution registered at Companies House on 01 Jul 2019. Appointment of Trustees and Trustee Induction and Training Trustees are appointed by the voting of the Board of Trustees.
All trustees receive an induction and a trustee induction packet, which includes information from the Charity Commission about the role and responsibilities of Trustees. All trustees sign a trustee declaration form as per guidance from the Charity Commission, before becoming a trustee. The form includes information such as bankruptcy and the reasons why a person cannot be a trustee.
Organization:
Global Kidney Foundation is a relatively new charity and is run by volunteers, most of whom are trustees. There are also volunteers who are not trustees.

Objectives and Activities for the Public Benefit:
The Global Kidney Foundation mainly focusing on to relieve the sickness and advance the health of persons who suffer from kidney disease, through, but not limited to i. The provision or assistance in the provision of support, practical advice, and recreational activities ii. The provision or assistance in the provision of education among the general public and organizations on all aspects relating to kidney disease, prevention or management in ways thought fit by the trustees iii. The provision or or or assistance in the provision of education among the general public and organizations on all aspects relating to organ donations in ways thought fit by the trustees. The charity operates throughout in England and Wales for the advancement of health or saving lives in respect of kidneys for the general public/mankind.
Mission Statement:
Global Kidney Foundation is working at community and global level to educate all people about the importance of preventing kidney disease, encouraging living donation and aiming to increase registered organ donors.

The philosophy behind our projects is to help communities about the importance of prevention from kidney disease & awareness for living Orgon donor. www.gkf.org.uk
Volunteers:
Volunteers are at heart of what we do. The charity exists thanks to its volunteers. Some volunteers are trustees. We also have Ambassadors volunteers, who work hard to raise the charity's image. All volunteers receive an induction, and many receive training about the issues we work on, for example, training on organ donation from us or from the NHS Blood and Transplant.

Strategic report
In 2024, the Global Kidney Foundation (GKF) continued to make substantial progress in its mission to increase NHS organ donor registrations and improve the lives of individuals affected by kidney disease, including those undergoing dialysis and their families. Recognising the mental health challenges that accompany chronic illness, GKF placed strong emphasis on compassionate care, community education, and targeted outreach.
Our efforts focused on breaking down misconceptions and cultural barriers to organ donation, particularly within Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities, faith groups, and student populations. With the full return of in-person programming following the pandemic, we resumed our free community health checks across various cities, combining kidney health screening with organ donation awareness. Hospital visits to dialysis patients also recommenced, providing much-needed emotional support and encouragement during treatment.
A major milestone this year was the donation of £21,000 to the Renal Department of the Royal London NHS Hospital in February 2024. These funds were raised during the Global Kidney Foundation Gala in London in November 2023, which brought together supporters, healthcare professionals, and the wider community to raise awareness of organ donation. A follow-up presentation event was held at the hospital, attended by celebrities, influencers, patients, and medical staff, creating further visibility for the cause.
The Gala also honoured living kidney donors through our Living Donors Heroes initiative, where donors received a commemorative pin to acknowledge their life-saving contributions. This initiative continues to be a powerful symbol of gratitude and a motivator for others to consider living donation.
Throughout the year, GKF participated in numerous public events to increase visibility and engagement. In summer 2024, we attended the Miss Generation Gala in London, where a GKF representative delivered a speech on kidney health and organ donation to an audience of over 300 people. The event also saw the selection of Miss Global Kidney Foundation, who will serve as an ambassador for the cause over the coming year.
Another key moment was GKF’s participation in the 2024 British Transplant Games in Nottingham, where our volunteers engaged with transplant recipients to share their personal stories and promote the importance of physical activity post-transplant. GKF also sponsored the sports team from Barts Health NHS Foundation Trust, supporting more than 20 transplant patients in attending and competing at the Games.
We also extended our advocacy efforts to business leaders by attending the West Midlands Economic Summit 2024, where our trustees and volunteers spoke directly with employers about the importance of kidney health and organ donation. This engagement helped to encourage organ donation awareness within corporate settings and community networks.
To ensure our message reached communities at the grassroots level, GKF organised and participated in a range of awareness events in schools, hospitals, churches, mosques, and community centres across the UK. Notably, we held educational sessions at institutions such as the Scholars School System in Birmingham and Bradford, where students learned about the importance of organ donation and healthy kidneys. NHS Blood & Transplant ambassadors joined us to speak directly with young people about their role in supporting donor registration. During Organ Donation Week 2024, we hosted public events in Birmingham City Centre and Bradford, reaching a wide and diverse audience with vital information and opportunities to get involved.

In addition to in-person outreach, GKF expanded its digital engagement by producing educational and inspirational video content featuring trustees, ambassadors, and patients. These videos encouraged viewers to register as organ donors, explore living donation, and have meaningful conversations with family members. Social media campaigns, including a viral “I’m an organ donor” video competition, significantly increased public awareness and participation.
Our ongoing collaborations with community organisations, renal units, hospitals, and patient support groups continue to strengthen our impact. Through shared events and joint campaigns—including our continued partnership with Miss Generation UK—we are reaching wider audiences and ensuring consistent advocacy for organ donation and kidney health.
Looking ahead, the Global Kidney Foundation remains fully committed to its mission: to educate, support, and empower individuals and communities affected by kidney disease, while advocating for organ donation and improved patient outcomes. The progress achieved in 2024 has strengthened our foundation and prepared us for further impact in the years to come.

Achievements and performance
In 2024, the Global Kidney Foundation (GKF) made major progress in raising awareness about lifesaving organ donation, promoting kidney health, and supporting kidney patients through a diverse range of high-impact initiatives and partnerships across the UK.
Donation of £21,000 to the Renal Department of the Royal London NHS Hospital in February 2024. The money was raised by GKF, which organised a charity fundraising Global Kidney Foundation Gala in London in November 2023. The aim of the charity and of the fundraising Gala in 2023 was also to raise awareness of life-saving organ donation, supporting the NHS in its work in this field. 100% of all money raised was donated to the Renal Department of the Royal London NHS Hospital.
GKF organised a donation presentation event at the Royal London Hospital in February 2024. The event further raised awareness of the importance of organ donation. Celebrities and influencers attended the event and met with dialysis patients, nurses, and doctors, learning about their lives and their work, and then further raising awareness among the general public about life-saving organ donation.
Raising awareness about life-saving organ donation and kidney health at Miss Generation Gala in London, summer 2024. The Global Kidney Foundation raised awareness at this event, attended by 300 people. A representative of the Global Kidney Foundation gave a speech about organ donation and kidney health, and to further raise awareness, Miss Global Kidney Foundation was also chosen by the judges to promote organ donation throughout the year.
The Global Kidney Foundation (GKF) attended and supported the British Transplant Games 2024 in Nottingham. Volunteers spoke to transplant recipients about their personal stories and raised awareness on social media about organ donation and the importance of sport and physical activity for good health, including among people who had an organ transplant.
The Global Kidney Foundation supported and sponsored the London Barts Health NHS Foundation Trust hospital sports team of organ transplant recipients; the donation supported the team of 20+ patients to attend and participate in the Games in Nottingham.
Raising awareness of organ donation and kidney health at West Midlands Economic Summit 2024: a team of GKF trustees and volunteers attended the Summit and raised awareness among business leaders about kidney health and organ donation, so that the business leaders can further raise this awareness within their respective communities and workplaces.
The Global Kidney Foundation has been organising a number of organ donation awareness events in various communities and in various cities. Highlights:
The charity organised an organ donation event at Scholars School System in Birmingham in autumn 2024, educating the student community on the importance of supporting organ donation. NHS Blood & Transplant ambassadors attended the event and spoke to students about organ donation.
The Global Kidney Foundation organised events to celebrate Organ Donation Week in September 2024 in two cities: Birmingham City Centre and Bradford at the Scholars School System Campus. The events highlighted the vital importance of organ donation, raised awareness about kidney disease, and educated the public on how to fully support organ donation.

Financial Review
Total unrestricted income for the year was £32,157 (2024), an increase of 39% compared to the 2023 income of £23,107 . There was no investment income this year. The net movement in funds for the year shows a surplus of £15,749.
Reserves Policy
The trustees have established the level of reserves (that is, those funds that are freely available) that the charity ought to have. The reserve fund is unrestricted and can be used to achieve the charitable objectives of the Global Kidney Foundation . The charity is largely dependent upon donations and sponsorships. Sufficient reserves are therefore held to ensure that the charity can continue to cover its expenses for the foreseeable future. Total reserves as of 30 September 2024 were £35,121 (30 September 2023 – £19,372).

This report has been prepared per the provisions applicable to companies entitled to the small companies' exemption.

I report to the trustees on my examination of the financial statements of GLOBAL KIDNEY FOUNDATION ('the charity') for the year ended 30 September 2024.
Responsibilities and basis of report
As the trustees of the company (and also its directors for the purposes of company law), you are responsible for the preparation of the financial statements in accordance with the requirements of the Companies Act 2006 ('the 2006 Act’).
Having satisfied myself that the accounts of the company are not required to be audited under Part 16 of the 2006 Act and are eligible for independent examination, I report in respect of my examination of the charity’s accounts as carried out under section 145 of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the 2011 Act’). In carrying out my examination, I have followed the Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act.
Independent examiner's statement
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe:

Accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 386 of the 2006 Act; or

The financial statements do not accord with those records; or

The financial statements do not comply with the accounting requirements of section 396 of the 2006 Act, other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair' view, which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination; or

1. General information
The charity is a public benefit entity and a private company limited by guarantee, registered in England and Wales and a registered charity in England and Wales. The address of the registered office is Smithfield House, 24-28 Digbeth, BIRMINGHAM, B5 6BS.
2. Statement of compliance
These financial statements have been prepared in compliance with FRS 102, 'The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and the Republic of Ireland', the Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (Charities SORP (FRS 102)) and the Companies Act 2006.
3. Accounting policies
Basis of preparation
The financial statements have been prepared on the historical cost basis, as modified by the revaluation of certain financial assets and liabilities and investment properties measured at fair value through income or expenditure.
The financial statements are prepared in sterling, which is the functional currency of the entity.
Disclosure exemptions
The entity satisfies the criteria of being a qualifying entity as defined in FRS 102. Its financial statements are consolidated into the financial statements of (enter name of group financial statements), which can be obtained from (enter detail). As such, advantage has been taken of the following disclosure exemptions available under paragraph 1.12 of FRS 102:
Judgements and key sources of estimation uncertainty
The preparation of the financial statements requires management to make judgements, estimates, and assumptions that affect the amounts reported. These estimates and judgements are continually reviewed and are based on experience and other factors, including expectations of future events that are believed to be reasonable under the circumstances.

Fund accounting
Unrestricted funds are available for use at the discretion of the trustees to further any of the charity's purposes.
Designated funds are unrestricted funds earmarked by the trustees for particular future project or commitment.
Restricted funds are subjected to restrictions on their expenditure declared by the donor or through the terms of an appeal, and fall into one of two sub-classes: restricted income funds or endowment funds.
Incoming resources
All incoming resources are included in the statement of financial activities when entitlement has passed to the charity; it is probable that the economic benefits associated with the transaction will flow to the charity and the amount can be reliably measured. The following specific policies are applied to particular categories of income:

income from donations or grants is recognised when there is evidence of entitlement to the gift, receipt is probable and its amount can be measured reliably.

legacy income is recognised when receipt is probable and entitlement is established.

income from donated goods is measured at the fair value of the goods unless this is impractical to measure reliably, in which case the value is derived from the cost to the donor or the estimated resale value. Donated facilities and services are recognised in the accounts when received if the value can be reliably measured. No amounts are included for the contribution of general volunteers.

income from contracts for the supply of services is recognised with the delivery of the contracted service. This is classified as unrestricted funds unless there is a contractual requirement for it to be spent on a particular purpose and returned if unspent, in which case it may be regarded as restricted.

Resources expended
Expenditure is recognised on an accruals basis as a liability is incurred. Expenditure includes any VAT which cannot be fully recovered, and is classified under headings of the statement of financial activities to which it relates:

expenditure on raising funds includes the costs of all fundraising activities, events, noncharitable trading activities, and the sale of donated goods.

expenditure on charitable activities includes all costs incurred by a charity in undertaking activities that further its charitable aims for the benefit of its beneficiaries, including those support costs and costs relating to the governance of the charity apportioned to charitable activities.

other expenditure includes all expenditure that is neither related to raising funds for the charity nor part of its expenditure on charitable activities.
All costs are allocated to expenditure categories reflecting the use of the resource. Direct costs attributable to a single activity are allocated directly to that activity. Shared costs are apportioned between the activities they contribute to on a reasonable, justifiable and consistent basis.
