– Report for the Charity Commission covering the period August 2022 to July 2023
Hornsea Men in Sheds has continued to provide an increasing range of activities for members, together with more requests from other local associations and members of the public for requests for us to provide small manufactured items such as planters, bird and hedgehog boxes. These, coupled with the craft fairs, open days and the sale of an increasing number of donated furniture items have resulted in a steady increase in the number of interested visits from members of the public. All of this means we have been able to maintain and even increase our income, together with being able to improve the facilities within the shed.
We have been very fortunate to be able to accommodate and established team of card makers together with a thriving section of ladies (known as the Crafty Shedders). Members from all of the sections within the shed assist with the maintenance of the poly tunnel and green houses, again providing an income for the shed together with a ready supply of fresh vegetables for members and the public.
The project to install a substantial log burner in the main workshop has been undertaken, together with some improved insulation and this has resulted in being able to keep our running cost at a reasonable level. We are currently investigating the installation of an upgraded dust extraction unit which will increase the number of members being able to utilise the wood working section. We have also steadily increased the number of electrical points providing safer and a greater facility for members
Our negotiations with the owner of the property we rent has agreed to extend our lease for a further three years, without any increase in the very small rent we pay.
