County President’s report

ell, a year has gone by and my time as your President for this W amazing organisation is coming to an end. It has flown by.

It’s been wonderful to watch YFC return to ‘normal’ following the pandemic, with competitions and dances going ahead and meetings back in Agriculture House. I congratulate clubs in increasing their membership and I can see membership growing this year again.

I thoroughly enjoyed this year’s Rally. The atmosphere was relaxed and happy; I didn’t feel you were under pressure, which is what I am a great believer in. Just have a go, even if you haven’t got a clue, you will be surprised how much you will learn by training and competing. Coming 1[st] is not everything, enjoying what you do is more important. Who would have thought that I can actually joint a chicken. Something I learnt when I was under 18.

Being a club official will help you in life to further your careers. I had my first job after leaving school in an accounts department mainly because I was treasurer of my club Llysyfran. The Director told me that if an organisation trusts you with their money like the YFC and you have knowledge with figures then he was happy to employ me.

One of my highlights this year was judging the Junior Member of the year competition. My word the County is in safe hands when they become seniors. You were all excellent. Congratulations to Cerys Harts from Llawhaden.

I’d like to congratulate all the County Officials in gaining their roles and I hope you have a wonderful year. Dan Morgan, Senior member and Male Ambassador, Carys Phillips as Queen and ViceChairman, and their fabulous attendants, Megan, Gwen, Teleri and Llinos.

I’d like to give a massive thank you to Keyston YFC where I joined after getting married and I’m currently a Club Leader for all your support this year and to our County Organiser Owain and to Sian too. You have been through some challenging times but always keep smiling. To Sam, I have always enjoyed your company and speeches. Who knows, you could be Prime Minister one day. And to Carys who has been an amazing support to Sam and myself this year. And to my old friend Delme, Your President Elect. His knowledge of the movement is tremendous.

Good luck to you all for the future. Diolch i chi fel Sir am fy ethol yn Llywydd. Dwy wedi mwynhau pob munud. Big Mama…x

Gaynor Hancock County President

County Chairman’s report

un, Learning and Achievement” are the words that greet you as you visit “F the NFYFC website. They are also what I wanted the members to gain from the past year; our first year of relative normality following the pandemic.

Being Chairman of Pembrokeshire Federation of Young Farmers Clubs has been an immense honour. Working alongside our County President Gaynor Hancock, Vice Chairman Carys Phillips and President Elect Delme Harries, along with our fantastic County Office staff of Owain Lewis and Sian Wyn Noyce, has been a joy. Whilst the year has not always bene plain sailing, I am proud of our efforts in guiding this important youth movement forwards.

It would be remiss of me not to start by thanking Tania Hancock-Llewellin and Eirlys Davies, last year’s chairman and president, for their work in leading the YFC movement through some of its most difficult days. It is in no small part down to their guidance that we in Pembrokeshire have had such a strong and vibrant year.

2021-2022 saw us return to a full calendar of social events and competitions after the difficulties of the past couple of years, but we still had a few challenges to overcome to support of our members.

The County Eisteddfod returned in physical form and with excellent on-stage and off-stage entries from members, showing their talents had not hidden away during the pandemic. We also took a moment to give thanks at a Harvest Festival hosted by Tiers Cross YFC, in which kind donations were made to PATCH.

Whitland Mart opened its gates to us once again for the Winter Fair. This competition day has quickly become an important part of the YFC calendar, offering members the chance to learn and compete in competitions closely linked to agriculture and the countryside.

Early December saw the return of a favourite of many members, the Queen’s Ball, and despite a power cut and immense queues at the bar, a hugely successful evening was had. A special thank you to all the past members who helped before, during and after, to make it such a success.

Covid rates began to rise in mid-December, but we did manage to hold our English public speaking at Pembrokeshire College, where once again members showed they were as sharp as ever as the standard across the board was incredibly high.

The rise in Covid over the new year gave Pembrokeshire YFC our first big change, as the pantomime competition was substituted in favour of An Audience With competition. Seeing members return to the stage at Ysgol Bro Gwaun was certainly a highlight of my year, as it felt like a milestone had been reached in our return, and I thank all clubs who took part

for their commitment to this competition and their flexibility when the decision to change was made.

Our County Officials team was bolstered as Dan Morgan was announced both Senior Member of the Year and Male Ambassador, Carys Phillips became our Rally Queen. Teleri Wilson, Llinos Ford, Megan Phillips and Gwen Davies were announced as the attendants and our Junior Member of the Year was Cerys Harts.

I should also congratulate Cerys on her year as Wales Youth Forum chairman and offer a special thanks to our own Pembrokeshire Youth Forum, who continue to do an amazing job for the under 18s in our County.

Unwaith eto cynhaliwyd cystadleuaeth siarad cyhoeddus Cymraeg yn Hermon. Rwy'n hynod falch bod CFfI Sir Benfro yn mynd ati i annog y Gymraeg a siaradwyr Cymraeg o bob lefel. Rydym yn sir ddwyieithog, ac yn rhagori yn y Gymraeg a’r Saesneg.

Our Field Day at Duckspool Farm was a great success, as members braved the rain to showcase their skills. I must thank every steward, judge, host and sponsor for their incredible help and support over the past 12 months. Without peoples generosity, it wouldn’t be possible to host the competitions or social events that we do.

The 2022 Rally at the Showground was a real highlight of the year. Having adopted some of the changes made during last year’s CovidRally, this year’s event went incredibly well, with members delivering a high standard of competitions in glorious sunshine. The Rally is the pinnacle of the YFC calendar, and seeing hundreds of Pembrokeshire YFC members competing, supporting, and socialising was incredibly special.

Whilst I’ve not accomplished everything that I wanted to during my year in office, I am immensely proud that Pembrokeshire YFC has had more members in this YFC year than at any point over the past 10 years. All 12 clubs have played their part in bringing in new members, often juniors, and it is for this reason that I have no hesitation in saying that the future of the movement is safe hands.

Mae wedi bod yn bleser bod yn gadeirydd y CFfI y flwyddyn ddiwethaf. Byddaf bob amser yn ddiolchgar am y cyfleoedd a’r cyfeillgarwch y mae’r mudiad wedi’u rhoi i mi ac anogaf bob aelod i ddweud ie am y cyfleoedd wrth iddynt ddod.

It has been a pleasure to be YFC chairman this past year. I will always be grateful to the opportunities and friendships that the movement has given me, and I urge all members to say yes to the opportunities as they come.

much to me, team work really does make the dream work!! Thank you.

I wish Pembrokeshire YFC and their new team of officials all the luck and success in the forthcoming years.

County Organiser’s report

ELL, it’s hard to believe that another 12 months have passed us by, and what a W year it has been!

The last year or so have continued to be strange and demanding for us all and as an organisation, with Covid still providing its challenges, particularly in the early part of the YFC year.

Despite this, we successfully offered a full programme of activities, competitions, and social events to our members as we return to normal. We held a Covid Secure Eisteddfod, Winter Fair, and it was great to get members back on stage for the An Audience With competition, adapted from the original pantomime competition planned. Then most recently, a normal Field Day and County Rally were held, offering a great variety of opportunities and experiences for our members.

This year’s Rally was a real highlight of the 20212022 year. We implemented several of the changes we had to make for our covid-secure rally last year which work well and may not have tried if it wasn’t for Covid! This year’s event was a great success, and it was fantastic to welcome a wonderful crowd of public to witness the highquality exhibits and standard of competing once again.

We are grateful to all judges and stewards, who are so willing to help, and to those that open up their farms and premises to hold our competition days. We are indebted to all our past members and supporters for being so willing to help us out this year and are looking to expand our pool of stewards. If you are willing to help us out, please get in touch!

We also held a number of successful and lucrative events, including the Queen’s Ball and Rally Dance, both returning a healthy surplus for County funds. The Field Day Dance was another successful event.

We have implemented an online ticketing service for events, which is easier for clubs to manage lists and tickets. It was great to be able to hold these events after postponing in recent years due to covid, both financially for the county and for the welfare and wellbeing of members.

The finance side of the organisation has been more important than ever to monitor closely during the covid period. We are very grateful to the local businesses, community councils and our patrons for their continued financial support, and also to our Treasurer Caroline for her knowledge and expertise.

I am pleased with our membership levels. Our membership has seen a positive recovery post covid, with our current number at 589, the highest figure since 2012. It’s important to note that a high proportion of our membership are junior members, and a lot of this is thanks to the work and enthusiasm of the Youth Forum and because of our proactive approach with activities and competitions and stands us in good stead for the future as we resume normal activities again.

Finally, a huge thank you to our team of County officials Sam, Carys, and Gaynor for all their help, friendship, and support, and to Caroline, Karen, and the Queen, Male Ambassador and Attendants, not forgetting Sian in the office! It has been another interesting and eventful year, and we all make a great team together.

It is an honour to be your County Organiser, and I wish the movement the best of luck for another successful year.

Diolch i bawb am bob cymorth, cefnogaeth a chyfeillgarwch, a pob dymuniad da i’r mudiad am flwyddyn lwyddiannus a llewyrchus arall!

WY feddylie pan ges i fy ethol yn isgadeirydd C.Ff.I Cymru yn 2019 beth oedd o’n P blaen ni, nid yn unig i ni yn bersonol fel unigolion drwy Cofid, ond y newidiadau mae’r mudiad wedi gorfod ei wneud yn ystod y pandemig hefyd. Mae rhai o’r newidiadau yma wedi newid y mudiad ar gyfer y dyfodol, a fy ngobaith i yw ei fod yn ehangu’r mudiad ymhellach, er enghraifft – er dwi’n shwr ein bod ni gyd wedi cael digon ar glywed y gair Zoom neu Teams, mae rhain yn rhoi’r cyfle i ni wneud cysylltiadau newydd, a medru cynnal cyfarfodydd efo is-bwyllgorau’r mudiad neu gysylltiadau tu allan i’r mudiad o’n cartrefi heb orfod teithio milltiroedd ar draws Cymru ac yn ehangach. Wrth gwrs mae Cofid wedi effeithio ar ein clybiau, siroedd, Cymru yn ogystal a’r cystadleuthau, ond fel Cadeirydd dwi’n hynod o falch o chi fel aelodau, cynaelodau, staff a chefnogwyr y mudiad am eich gwaith aruthrol yn ystod y 2 flynedd diwethaf. Fe wnaeth nifer o fudiadau tebyg iawn i ni gau lawr yn ystod y pandemig ac wedi methu cynnig dim i’w haelodau, ond fel mudiad y ffermwyr ifanc fe allwn fod yn falch iawn o’r hyn ni wedi neud yn ein cymunedau yn ogystal a nosweithiau clwb a’r cystadleuthau a gafodd ei cynnal ar lein – pwy fyddai’n meddwl y bydde ni’n neud beirniadu stoc ar lein? Dim fi yn bendant, ond mae’n braf nodi fod bob sir wedi bod yn cystadlu yn rhuthiol ar lefel Cymru yn ystod y flwyddyn.

Yn ystod Haf 2021 roedd yn braf gweld nifer o’r cyfyngiadau yn codi a oedd yn golygu ein bod yn medru cynnal CCB C.Ff.I Cymru wyneb yn wyneb yn Llanelwedd lle ges i fy enwebi fel Cadeirydd C.Ff.I Cymru – moment arbenning i mi yn bersonol wrth i mi ddilyn ol troed fy nhad fel Cadeirydd y mudiad. Ar y nodyn yma hoffwn ddiolch yn fawr iawn i Katie Davies, Sir Benfro am ei gwaith caled iawn yn ystod 2 flynedd anodd iawn, ond mi wnaeth gario’r mudiad yn gryf drwy Cofid.

Fe ddaeth Mis Medi ac mi ro’ ni gyd yn edrych ymlaen i groesawi’r aelodau nol i’r clybiau’n wythnosol a dechrau cystadlu wyneb yn wyneb unwaith eto yn ystod y flwyddyn newydd o’r mudiad. Y gystadleuaeth gynta’ i ni fel mudiad yng Nghymru wrth gwrs oedd yr Eisteddfod ym Mhontrhydfendigaid, oedd eleni yn cael ei westeio gan Sir Brycheiniog. Roedd yn hynod o braf cael ychydig o nolmalrwydd yn ol wrth gystadlu. Hoffwn ddiolch i S4C am ei cefnogaeth unwaith eto i ni fel mudiad. Yn wir traddodiad y mudiad fe aethpwyd yn syth i fewn i gystadlu yn syth gyda’r

Caryl Haf Cadeirydd CFfI Cymru

Ffair Aeaf – digwyddiad llwyddiannus arall i’r C.Ff.I, a braf nodi fod pob un o’r cystadleuthau wedi medru digwydd wyneb yn wyneb yn ystod y 2 ddiwrnod. Llongyfarchiadau mawr i bob aelod a oedd yn cystadlu, a diolch i chi am weithio gyda ni fel mudiad gyda’r newidiadau oherwydd cyfyngiadau Cofid.

Fe ddaeth 2022, ac yn anffodus fe ddaeth y cyfyngiadau yn ol gyda cystadlu’r mudiad yn dod i stop unwaith eto, gyda ni’n neud y penderfyniad o ohirio y gystadleuaeth pantomeim. Erbyn hyn ni’n falch o weld fod pethau yn edrych ifyny a bod y cyfyngiadau wedi codi yng Nhghymru a blwyddyn y mudiad yn edrych yn llawn unwaith eto.

Fel mae’r mwyafrif ohonoch yn gwybod dwi’n shwr fod nifer o staff newydd wedi dechrau efo’r mudiad yng Nghymru yn ystod y ddwy flynedd diwetha, ac rydym yn ei crosawi nhw i gyd atom ac yn edrych ymlaen i weld ffrwyth llafur ei gwaith yn ystod y misoedd nesa’.

Fel rhan o’r fraint o fod yn Gadeirydd ar y mudiad mae’r cyfle i godi arian i elusen o’m dewis, ac eleni dwi wedi dewis Alzheimers Cymru – elusen sy’n agos iawn at fy nghalon gan i mi golli fy mam sawl blywyddyn yn ol yn ifanc iawn. Yn hytrach na gwneud her dwi’n cynnal cinio mawreddog i holl aelodau, ffrindiau a chefnogwyr y mudiad ar y 10fed Fedi yn Mhafiliwn Pontrhydfendigaid. Edrychaf ymlaen i’ch croesawi yno, mi fydd tocynnau ar werth yn fuan a mwy o wybodaeth i ddilyn – cadwch lygad ar ein cyfryngau cymdeithasol.

Dwi’n edrych ymlaen yn ystod y misoedd nesa’ i gwrdd a mwy a mwy o aelodau, ac os y gallaf fod o unrhw gymorth i unrhw aelod, clwb neu i Sir Benfro plis rhowch wbod i mi. Dwi’n hynod o falch o deulu Mudiad y Ffermwyr Ifanc a’r gwaith mae pawb yn ei rhoi mewn i’r mudiad – does na ddim un mudiad ne sefydliad tebyg i gael allan yna. Plis cadwch i fyny efo’ch gwaith caled a phob lwc i Sir Benfro yn y dyfodol.

Wales YFC Report

would never have thought when I was nominated as Wales YFC Vice-Chair back in 2019 what was ahead of us, not only for us I personally as individuals throughout Covid, but the changes that YFC has had to do throughout it also. Some of these changes have changed the movement for the future, and hopefully will enhance what we are able to offer – for example, even though I’m sure we have all heard enough about Zoom and Teams, it does give us the opportunity to create new contacts but also to have meetings from the comfort of our homes without having to travel miles on a weekly basis. Covid of course has affected many of our clubs, counties, Wales and of course our competitions, but I’m ever so proud of you as members, exmembers, staff, and supporters of the movement of the work you have all carried out during the last 2 years. Many similar organisations closed during the pandemic and weren’t able to offer anything to their members, but as YFC I feel we can be proud of what we have done within our communities as well as the club nights, and the competitions that were held online – who would have thought that we would be doing Dairy Stock Judging online?! Not me certainly!! But I’m glad to say that all counties competed on a virtual level.

During the summer of 2021 it was great to see that many of the restrictions were being lifted which meant we were able to have a face-to-face AGM in the showground in Builth Wells where I was nominated as Wales YFC Chairman – a proud moment for me personally and following the footsteps of my father. On this note i would like to thank Katie Davies, Pembrokeshire for her hard work during the 2 years she was Chairman of Wales – tough 2 years, but she carried Wales YFC through Covid strong.

September arrived and we were all looking forward to welcoming members back to their clubs on a weekly basis and start competing face to face once again in our new YFC year. Our first major competition on a Wales level with some normality of course was the Eisteddfod in Pontrhydfendigaid, that was hosted by yourselves as a county. The Eisteddfod was a great success, and may I thank Brecknock as a county for all their hard work in

Caryl Haf Wales YFC Chairman

creating the competitions for the members, hosting the event, stewarding, supporting in a variety of ways, finding sponsors, and making sure everything ran smoothly on the day. We would also like to thank S4C for their support once again in showing the talent we have on our YFC Eisteddfod stage. In true YFC style there was no rest for our members as we were straight into competing in the Winter Fair – again another successful event for the YFC and all competitions able to be held in person, and congratulations to all members that competed, and thank them for their patience due to some changes (due to Covid) in some of the competitions.

2022 arrived and unfortunately the restrictions came back and the competing with YFC came to a stop again, with the Pantomime competition being the major event of the year being cancelled. We are glad to say that things are looking up and restrictions have been lifted and the YFC year is looking positive again. As a tradition the Wales YFC Chairman has a charity that they raise money and awareness of during their year. My choice of charity for this year is Alzheimer’s Cymru – something that is very close to my heart due to losing my mum at a very young age. I’ve decided not to do a challenge this year, but to hold a dinner in the Pavilion in Pontrhydfendigaid for members, ex-members, supporters etc on the 10th September.

I look forward to meeting more and more members during the next couple of months, and if I can be of any support to any member, club or the county of Pembrokeshire please don’t hesitate to contact myself. I’m extremely proud of the Young Farmers Family and the work everyone puts in – there is no other movement like it out there in my opinion. Please keep up your hard work and good luck to Pembrokeshire YFC for the future.

NFYFC Report

t was an honour to be elected as your President for a second year – even if I did have to experience another online election I due to pandemic restrictions.

Despite not being able to see you all in person at this year’s Annual General Meeting, I still enjoyed chairing the event and hearing some lively debate from YFC members. And such great news that you voted to extend the upper membership age by another two years – even longer for people to enjoy the benefits of YFC. Being your President has extended my time in YFC just that little bit longer too, which I am extremely grateful for – and especially so during the 90th year of our national federation. There are so many stories, like mine, from people whose lives have been transformed over the past nine decades, thanks to the skills and friendships they gained in YFC. Long may that continue.

As we look ahead, the industry faces huge challenges with changes in agricultural policy, new international trade deals and the climate change debate. YFC gives the next generation the chance to get their voices heard on these issues, and I hope you all grab those opportunities with both hands. Your future in agriculture counts on it.

The pandemic has cast a shadow over all our lives and many of you will have faced your own personal battles or tragedies throughout this difficult period. Living remotely in rural locations has only exacerbated loneliness during lockdowns and made us all realise the importance of our YFC get togethers. Well done to all those clubs and counties that moved activities to an online format during lockdowns, your time and creativity was a huge support to many. And a big pat on the back to all those who have organised safe meetings again for their members and are encouraging more people to join (or re-join) the organisation. Your hard work will ensure YFC remains a constant in our lives.

Nigel Owens MBE NFYFC President

It is reassuring to see competition finals and training are happening in person again, social events and fundraisers are being organised, and more people are appreciating all that YFC has to offer.

NFYFC might be 90, but its enthusiasm for supporting and developing rural young people has never wavered since it first began in 1932. Let’s all play our part in making YFC even bigger and better this membership year and protecting what we love for future generations.

Club reports

BrawdyHayscastle YFC

It’s been a very busy but enjoyable year for BrawdyHayscastle this year with lots of successes for our members!

Iwan, Griff and Osian saw out the 20202021 year competing in the Kwik Cricket as a part of the pool team - a first competition for 2 of the boys. Our annual AGM followed shortly after as we were finally allowed to return to our club hall after the pandemic. Jason Davies was reelected as chairman and Adam George became his vice-chair, whilst Cerys Jones took on the role of secretary.

We held an Opening Social in September for current and new members - we had a great turn out and had a great night of fun, games and socialising. In the same month we also worked alongside Eco Dewi for ‘YFC Operation Green’ and ‘St Davids Peninsula Great Big Green Week’ and carried out a litter pick on Newgale beach which we were very happy to have recognised by NFYFC.

We were invited down to Martletwy in October for a games evening as part of their 75th anniversary year which was a good opportunity for our members to get to know others from another part of the county. Members represented the club at the county harvest festival where they donated a harvest gift in aid of PATCH. Adam and Jason attended the Llanrhian ‘This is your Community’ day to meet local businesses and organisations, and to promote YFC and all of the opportunities it offers to young people in the local area.

Adam and Cerys were honoured to represent BrawdyHayscatle at the Hayscastle Remembrance Day service and laid a wreath on behalf of the club. We competed in our first competitions of the

year at Winter Fair and had a very

successful day! Callum finished 2nd in the Under 16 Butcher’s Beef Stockjudging, Katie and Llinos came 6th in the Decorated Christmas Tree competition, and were joined by Nikki in the Scarecrow Making where they finished 5th!

December came around and we put out our ‘Merry Quizmas’ quiz sheet to raise money for club funds - something that was thoroughly enjoyed by everybody who took part! We were also glad to hold a Christmas Carol service for the local community for the first time in 2 years to get everyone in the festive spirit. The English Public Speaking Day was a massive success for the club as we were able to enter all 4 competitions for the first time in many years, with some members competing for the first time, some competing twice to make up the teams, and some competing well above their age group! Llinos, Toby and Nikki came 7th in the Junior Reading; Callum, Katie and Toby were joint 6th in the Junior Public Speaking with Callum also finishing joint 2nd for Vote of Thanks. Euwyn, Rhys H, Becky and Callum took part in their first Intermediate Brainstrust and finished 8th; and our Senior After Dinner Speaking team made up of Rhys J, Cerys, Jason, Adam and Becky finished 1st overall! Rhys was awarded Best Placed Speaker and Becky was awarded Best Supporting Speaker. It was a very proud day for the club!

We enjoyed various club nights over the year which included a Halloween night, pizza making, pancake making, games nights, bingo and a beach night. We also played our part in the community by supporting local events including St David’s and District Ploughing Match, community litter picks and Hayscastle show.

We are very proud of Rhys J who was chosen to be on the Pembrokeshire YFC team at the Wales Public Speaking Day in March who finished 3rd overall, with Rhys being placed joint 2nd speaker.

We had mixed success in the Knockout Quiz and Indoor Sports competitions this year - our quiz team of Stuart, Adam, Euwyn, Callum, Becky and Rhys H were unfortunately knocked out in the first round, and our indoor sports team of Jason, Adam, Cerys, Iwan, Rhys H, Euwyn, Toby and Nikki beat Eglwyswrw in the first round but were later knocked out by Clunderwen. Emily was our only member competing at Field Day this year, taking part in the stockjudging.

At Easter we held a bingo at the Cross Inn, Hayscastle which had a great turnout from the community and also attended the local spring fair where we promoted our club and had a bottle stall.

We had a great rally this year, all of our members were enthusiastic to have a go at something new and enter as many competitions as we could. We managed to enter teams in every pre-rally stockjudging which we haven’t done for many years, as well as competing in other pre-rally competitions. On rally day, our

hard work paid off as we were awarded the Dill & Mostyn Williams shield for Most Points Achieved per Member! This was a very proud moment for all of our members, leaders and club support and members really felt that their efforts over the past year had been rewarded! BrawdyHayscastle YFC would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who has supported us over the past year - club leaders, parents and advisory. We wouldn’t have achieved all our successes without all of these people as their commitment allowed members to take part in so many activities and competitions over the year. We hope that our club will continue to thrive over the next year and that our club will continue to grow so that more young people can make the most of what YFC has to offer.

Diolch yn fawr eto, Thank you all once again.

to face competitions for us all in a covid safe way.

Thank you all once again. Diolch yn fawr iawn.

Clunderwen YFC

This past year has allowed us to really get back into the swing of things! With no more virtual meetings or club nights, we could finally get back to what Clunderwen YFC is all about… having fun!

We started the new year off with our Club AGM held in Clunderwen hall. Bringing in a new set of officials, with Llinos Ford taking over from Scott Robinson as Chairman, Dan Philips became Vice-chair, Charli Jones maintaining her role as Treasurer, Mari Roberts continued as secretary, Siwan Jones joined as Social Secretary and Rosie Hughes became minute Secretary.

We started our club nights with a new members’ night in the hall. Where we held a number of fun team bonding games for all the new members joining. The first competition of the year rolled around quickly! The Eisteddfod was a wonderful opportunity for new and old members to show off a number of their talents. Sion Jenkins came first in the chair, Mari Roberts was 1[st] with her Limerick. The juniors displayed their singing and musical talents and all placed 3[rd] in their competitions. Scott and Mari displayed their dirty dancing moves and came first in the mime to music. Overall Clunderwen came 3[rd] . We all headed up to Aber to represent Pembrokeshire with our mime to music.

With Halloween just around the corner, we headed down for a joint club night with Martletwy YFC, pumpkin carving. In preparation for all of the stock judging competitions, we held a sheep stock judging practice, where our amazing trainer Russel, taught all of our new juniors what to look out for, this also gave some of our more experienced seniors some much needed practice after lockdown!

In November, club members cleaned the cenotaph, in preparation for the remembrance Sunday service. During the service, Llinos Ford was invited to represent Clunderwen YFC and lay a wreath.

Our second competition of the year was the winter fair. The juniors got crafty and made handmade decorations for a Christmas tree and a scarecrow into Caleb from Clarkson’s Farm. We placed first in the lamb trimming and Cywain competitions and came 3[rd] overall.

To get into the Christmas spirit we held Christmas crafts and baking club nights. All the seniors got dolled up and headed to the queen’s ball.

In the third competition of the year, Clunderwen members got to show off their talents when they hosted an audience with Clunderwen YFC. We got to witness the amazing magic show from Llinos and her glamorous assistant Awen, and also hear some of the pickup lines the Clunderwen boys use in the Angle on a Friday night.

In April members took part in the field day, overall, we came 7[th] . We held our club dinner, celebrating the clubs belated 90[th] anniversary. Ella Hargreaves won junior member of the year, Scott Robinson won senior member, both Steve and Charli won the Club leaders award and Morgan Davies won the chairman’s award.

With Rally just around the corner, members got into the swing of pre-rally competitions. Where Scott demonstrated the different uses for a grease gun, And the girls pulled out their queen’s ball dresses for the dancing competition.

Before we knew it, it was Rally day, and we were all looking forward to a day filled

with competitions. Well done to Betsan, Lotti and Scarlet who competed in the flowers for the first time and all placed 3[rd] ! We came 3[rd] overall in the singing and 4[th] in the woodwork. Halfway through the day, we all gathered to welcome the Queen and her attendants, one of them being our very own chairman Llinos Ford! The day finished by cheering on the boy’s tug of war team, who came second. Overall, Clunderwen placed 7[th] .

With the lighter nights we took advantage and headed down to the beach. We also had a club night learning how to play ultimate frisbee.

Sports day had arrived, and Oscar demonstrated his new frisbee skills. And the seniors got to show off their amazing sports skills once again.

The girl’s hockey team and Oscar were both invited to represent Pembrokeshire in the Wales Sports Day. The boys came first in the rugby 7s and were invited to play in the Royal Welsh.

To finish off the year, we all headed up to Builth to support Pembrokeshire in the YFC competitions and Will, Scott and Morgan in the Rugby 7s.

The past year has been very successful for Clunderwen, gaining lots of new members, doing well in competitions and having lots of fun.

What a year it has been!

It has been great to get back into the full swing of all things YFC this year and this would not have been possible without the endless support from county, members, leaders and supporters of our club. We’re very lucky within Eglwyswrw to have such talented members, either new or old that work so hard to achieve brilliant results throughout this year where we saw club come in the top 5 of most competitions days throughout the last year.

In between practices and competitions we’ve managed to fill our year to the top with fun club nights from the very beginning! We saw a full club night at our ‘Open Evening’ full of fun ice breaker games, pizza nights, trips to Llangrannog, farm visits, beach games to round off the busy year nicely.

We’ve had a lot of new members young or old walk through our doors this year and it’s been lovely to see them return week in week out - even to clean the club room after rally!! Our members have been busy representing club and county at Wales levels this year through either public speaking, stockjudging or busy at the Royal Welsh Show. This year’s secretary Gwen was appointed as one of this years Rally Attendants and will also be heading to South Africa with Wales YFC in August. The year 2021-2022 has been one full of fun in Eglwyswrw YFC and we’d like to wish all the best to the club and county for the forthcoming year.

CFfI Abergwaun Fishguard YFC

Chairman: Teleri Wilson Secretary: Cariann Griffiths Treasurer: Tomos Evans President: Rhodri Thomas

After a very different and challenging 2 years, the 2021-2022 YFC year saw the return of normality and a full year of YFC competitions and activities.

We are delighted that our membership figure stands so high at the end of this year and with over 40 junior members, the future of Fishguard is in very safe hands.

We began our year with an opening social evening at Mathry hall to welcome current and new members to the new YFC year. With over 30 members attending, everyone enjoyed an evening of various team building games and challenges. We then moved on to our first fundraiser of the year where we held a tractor run for the first time. 45 tractors enjoyed the coastal route in the sunshine and the ice-cream stop at Lochmeyler was a great hit! We were delighted to raise over £1000 for the DPJ Foundation and Fishguard YFC hall project.

The county Eisteddfod was soon upon us, and our members worked tirelessly during the day, and in the weeks leading up to the Eisteddfod. We took home 4 of the main cups during the day including the overall winners shield, and our current treasurer Tomos Evans was the winner of the Eisteddfod crown.

Following the Eisteddfod, we were soon into stock judging practises in preparation for the county winter fair day at Whitland mart. This was another successful day for us as a club as we came away as overall runners up. Some of the top results of the day where the Wilson siblings, Teleri, Siôn and Steffan winning the U18, U21 and U28 lamb stock judging competitions, resulting

in winning the overall lamb judging and Steffan Wilson also winning the U18 carcass judging. Steffan then went on to represent Pembrokeshire at the Winter Fair in Builth Wells and came away with the 1[st] prize in the U18 carcass judging at a Wales level - a fantastic achievement!

In the lead up to Christmas, members enjoyed various activities and events. The seniors enjoyed a night out at the annual Queen’s ball whilst the juniors had an excellent evening at the youth forum Christmas party. We also held a very successful Christmas bingo at Mathry Hall raising over £500! The English public speaking also happened a few weeks before Christmas and we finished in joint 3[rd] position with Eglwyswrw. Our junior readers won their category with Ianto Evans winning best chairman and the senior after dinner speaking team came 3[rd] .

With the New Year seeing the return of covid, limiting club contact once again, we returned to zoom for a few weeks to prepare for the Welsh public speaking competition. We were delighted that this competition was able to go ahead face to face, and we finished overall joint winners with Eglwyswrw. Our juniors won the reading competition, the intermediates brainstrust team came 2[nd] , with Cerys Davies winning best chairman, and the senior after dinner speaking team came 2[nd] , with Tomos Evans winning best speaker. After hearing the devastating news of what was happening in Ukraine, we as a club decided to launch an appeal to collect items for the Wales4Ukraine Shoebox appeal. We were overwhelmed with the response we had and the amount of items that arrived in Mathry hall was incredible. We were delighted to transfer the items to three collection points to aid those in Ukraine.

We were soon into practises for the ‘An Audience with’ competition that was replacing the panto/entertainment competition this year. We based our performance on flashbacks of the last 70 years of Fishguard YFC and re-performed

acts and items from various entertainments over the years. We came away from this competition as overall winners and picked up the trophy for the best act for the camel sand dance-da iawn fechgyn!

Next, it was time for the county’s annual field day at Duckspool Farm, Wiston. This was a busy day of stock judging, fencing, auctioneering and farm safety and once again, we had some fantastic results during the day. Isabelle Davies won the auctioneering competition, and the cube exhibit also came 1[st] . We were over the moon to be announced the overall field day winners at the field day dance, the first time in over 20 years for Fishguard to win the field day! Steffan went on to represent Pembrokeshire in the junior stockman of the year competition at the Wales Field Day in Ruthin where he was announced the Wales Junior Stockman of the Year-a fantastic way to end his junior stock judging career!

The highlight of the YFC year is the County Rally, and what a day this was for Fishguard! It was an extra special rally this year as our club chairman, Teleri, had been selected as one of the rally attendants this year. After weeks of pre-rally competitions and preparations, the sun was shining on the showground during the rally day. We never imagined the success we had that day and with 20 cups and trophies returning to Fishguard at the end of the day, including the NFU challenge shield for the overall rally winners, shields for the highest placed club

in junior and senior competitions and the pre-rally competitions trophy, we couldn’t have asked for any more from our members! It certainly was a rally to remember!

With the YFC calendar now slowing, it wasn’t a quiet royal Welsh week for Fishguard as we represented Pembrokeshire in 6 different competitions. It was a fantastic achievement for our junior tug of war team to get to the Royal Welsh and we enjoyed cheering and supporting them on the Wednesday. Some other highlights include the boys group singing coming 2[nd] , Teleri coming 2[nd] in the U28 Sheep stock judging and being a part of the winning team and the create a TV advert came 3[rd] .

As well as a busy year of competing, we have also enjoyed various club nights to different locations and invited guest speakers to our club. We’ve enjoyed trips to Morfa Milk, Treclun Isaf for a calving live evening, bowling, Llangrannog, Clerkenhill Frisbee golf, Lambing live at Dinas Island as well as a visit from the Dyfed Powys Police ARV unit where we learnt all about the work of the armed response unit. We also had a very busy day at Fishguard show where members volunteered all day stewarding the crossing gates, operating the main gate, running the YFC stall and the bar. We also hosted the show dance, and we are extremely grateful to our members, leaders, and friends for being so willing to help the community.

We have enjoyed an extremely busy year of YFC activities and enjoyed the hustle and bustle of a full YFC calendar once again. We are extremely grateful to everyone that’s supported us during the year, and we look forward to another year of fun with our members.

Keyston YFC

Once again it is time to reflect on a year that has again been interrupted with covid restrictions and in true YFC spirit the Yellow Army have battled their way through and have had a truly amazing year.

The year commenced with Eleri again taking over the reins as chairman, Annie vice chair, Nia Secretary, Becky treasurer, Huw as our Minute Secretary and Mr Stephen Hancock as Club President.

The opening social welcomed new faces and it was also good to see a few that we hadn’t seen in a little while and we finished the year with over 60 members. We organized a social at The Pelcomb Inn that was well supported by other clubs.

Club nights have included a visit to Sunnyhill Farm, Good Hook Pumpkins and Lower House Farm. We have had quizzes, fundraising bingos, a talk on YFC from Tania, a Halloween social with Eglwyswrw, PAVs presentation and a presentation to our retiring club leader Jenny Mountstephens who had been a leader for many years, and we thank her for her help, support and patience over the years! We visited Llysyfran for a talk on Forensics, a trip to Hangar 5, Laser Tag, Caddies Driving Range, Frisbee Golf, a Beach Night and Outdoor Games. We also had a day trip having a guided tour of Castell Howell and then testing our warrior skills at Ninga Warrior Park, Cardiff with a few escapees managing a spot of shopping – Ellen! We have made Christmas Decorations, Welsh Cakes, Pancakes, Pizzas and Ice-cream Sundaes and an evening of Life Skills.

We supported the County AGM and waved goodbye to our Tan as County Chairman and welcomed Gaynor as our County President and received the Bill Black Trophy and Dan jointly received the award for Secretary. We attended the County Harvest Festival, County Quiz, Youth Forum Festivals, and Rural Affairs Trips and not forgetting The Queens Ball with Terrie and Eleri as attendants and Lawrence as Male Ambassador. We were also honoured

following our Community Work in lockdown to be named as Community Champions and Eleri attended the opening of The Senedd and had the opportunity to speak to The Queen.

Christmas saw Santa’s Sleigh Ride through the local villages and added a bit of magic to the festive season for the community and in June members together with Camrose Community Council held a beacon at Keeston Hill with a difference to honour The Queens Jubilee with a gathering of tractors in true YFC style with flashing lights which lit up the night sky.

Competitions have been varied, with lots of success and the first competition of the year was the County Eisteddfod with Eleri winning the Welsh Learners Recitation and Annabelle and Libby winning the creative dance and all three travelled to Tregaron for the Wales Eisteddfod and all achieved 2nd place. Da iawn!

Next, we had the Winter Fair with most competitions entered and placed 4th overall and again Annabelle and Libby were placed on top decorating a Christmas Tree and the beef stock judging team placed 1st. Annabelle and Libby later travelled to the Wales Winter Fair and took top place and Becky and James were part of the Pembrokeshire Stock Judging teams.

Public Speaking with restrictions but so good not to be on zoom and Keyston were placed 2nd overall with Aled being placed 1st as Chairman of the junior team.

As a club we made the decision not to enter “The Audience With” competition, but we were proud to hear the announcement that Dan was awarded Senior Member of the Year and Joe won the Situations Vacant and Joe later travelled to the Wales Competitions Weekend and again was placed on top and Aled was part of the Pembrokeshire public speaking junior team and Dan in the seniors – well done boys. Dan then done the double and was awarded with the role of Male Ambassador taking over from Lawrence a role we are sure he will enjoy.

The Field Day at Duckspool crept up on us and saw all competitions entered and a 3rd place overall.

Many members took part in new competitions, and we are proud of their achievements. Well done to Eleri on being awarded Senior Stockman of the Year and Eleri and Annie later travelled to Ruthin for the Wales Field Day and Annie achieved 2nd placed.

Throughout the Winter months the quiz team and the knockout sports team battled their way through the rounds and enjoyed Februdairy with Llysyfran and in April the Yellow Army Quiz team as Mexicans met the herd of Cows from Llawhaden in the final and after a few solid rounds Keyston were again awarded the J E Lawrence trophy – well done team! Sadly, the indoor sports team were knocked out in the semi-final by Clynderwen after a few noisy Tipit rounds!

Pre rally competitions commenced, and Keyston certainly hit the ground running with success in The Gate to Plate Presentation, Dancing and 2nd in the TV Advert. The stock judging teams had individual successes and we must extend our thanks and

congratulations to all team members that juggled revision and exams to make full teams that resulted in Keyston being placed 2nd overall in stock judging.

The morning of Rally Day arrived and the members making the Promotional Sign and Club Exhibit couldn’t believe their eyes being awarded a 2nd and 1st – what a start to the day. This continued with Cookery 1st, Capable Campers, Generation Game, RWS Flowers and On the Spot Skills all being placed 2nd and at the end of the day Eleri and Nia on behalf of the members were proud to collect The Captain Thomas Trophy for being placed 2nd overall from our very own club leader and County President Gaynor.

Celebrations continued into the evening with members attending the rally dance and following the success of the year and the huge contribution from each and every one,

members, helpers and friends enjoyed a BBQ provided by members.

Sports competitions have also taken place and several of our members were selected to represent Pembrokeshire at Wales Sports Day.

Annie, Lottie and Tom travelled to The Yorkshire Show to represent Pembrokeshire in the NFYFC Dairy Stock Judging and all achieved commendable results and then of course The Royal Welsh Show arrived – The Club Exhibit placed 4th, Dancing 2nd, Isabel and Cerys in Cookery 3rd, The Gate to Plate Presentation 4th and Annie Stock judging 6th, huge congratulations to all and to the backstage team that helped with manoeuvres!

We have just concluded the year with our Annual Dinner at Wolfscastle Country Hotel were officials had the opportunity to thank members for their hard work and dedication during the year and in particular the band of leaders and trainers that have supported them tirelessly and contributed to their success.

We look forward to the forth coming year which will see Keyston celebrate 80 years which we are sure will continue with the same Yellow Army spirit.

Llawhaden YFC

September marks the start of a new YFC year, and our AGM saw Nia Morris elected as Chairman, Celyn Lewis as Vice Chairman, Ellie Dew as Secretary, Zoe Mansell as Treasurer and Seren Phillips as Minute Secretary, with Karen Jones continuing her role of Club President. This is a team that has kept Llawhaden YFC going strong over the last year!

We kicked off the new year with some fun club nights, to show our new members what they had missed last year due to Covid! We quickly moved onto Eisteddfod with Mared Phillips winning the Solo, Seren Phillips winning the instrumental solo with the Harp and Bethan Dew winning the under 18 craft homework and going on to represent county at Wales. Mared went on too and came 2[nd] at the Wales Eisteddfod. We highly enjoyed our practices for group singing, recitation and many other competitions too.

We swiftly moved onto Winter fair, with many stock judging practices. Members enjoyed their day out competing for the club at Whitland mart, coming 6[th] overall and winning the overall carcass section.

Then we were in full swing with public speaking practices. We had a very successful day with Mared Phillips winning Best Chairman in the reading section and winning the highest placed panel for Intermediate Brainstrust. We came an amazing 2[nd] place with our Intermediate team. We are very proud of our junior members coming 3[rd] overall in both the Reading and the Junior Speaking.

Christmas was on its way and the best way to lead up to Christmas was with a Christmas Fair and bingo which was very well supported. Unfortunately, we

were unable to go carol singing due to covid number rising.

We welcomed in the new year with a friendly game of tipit against Keyston as part of the indoor sports competition. Unfortunately, we didn’t quite beat Keyson in a close round, and were knocked out.

Cerys Harts went on to compete in junior member and won the position, we are very proud of Cerys’ achievement.

Llawhaden YFC are celebrating 80 years, which we had to celebrate in style!! We organised a dinner with all past and present members welcome to celebrate this milestone. Due to covid some people were missing but we partied for them! We also had a lovely letter from one of the founding members which was read out at the dinner as he was unable to meet us. What a great start to our 80[th] year.

Due to covid, the county decided not to go ahead with the panto but to put on ‘An Audience with’ competition where we decided to have an audience with Elton John, where our members performed to Elton John’s well-known songs. We had singing, dancing and the odd comedy sketch too! All members had a great time practicing and won the most promising club trophy and the most technical cup. We are very proud of our very young club, many of whom have never been on stack with us before.

YFC kept us all busy as we jump into our next competition with Field day. Our senior fencing team came 1[st ] and went on to represent the county in Wales. Our members had a great day stock judging with various results.

It was the knockout quiz time and we managed to get our way to the final against Keyston! It was a very close

final but unfortunately, we just missed out on the title and Keyston were victorious. Congratulations to them! Our Club Chairman Nia got married to James and had a wonderful day, shortly followed by Emily and Simon. Members and leaders had a great time celebrating - congratulations all!!

Not only matches, but hatches for Llawhaden this year, and Alice and Llyndaf Harries bring us our youngest future member when Doti Mai was born! Congratulations to you both. We were then in full swing of Rally, stock judging, craft, flower arranging, dancing and cookery. We came 6[th] overall with the juniors coming 3[rd] in the junior shield. We had a great day with Lili winning the U16 floral art, Mared winning the Solo and winning the overall Sheep stock judging with many second and thirds to follow. The juniors had a lot of fun practicing - Llawhaden YFC has a bright future with our fantastic juniors.

What a brilliant achievement!

To finish what has been a jam-packed year, we held our annual treasure hunt ending up in The Bush Inn with 17 cars supporting the hunt.

Junior members attended the Junior Festival and had a great evening with members from across the County. Congratulations to the youth forum team for holding such a great event for the juniors - a great time had by all. We then held our thank you bbq at Clerkenhill Farm and had a brilliant night with everyone.

The final event of the year was to continue celebrations for Llawhaden YFC 80[th] anniversary! We had a lovely afternoon tea at our chairman’s home in the glorious sunshine. Sun, friends, afternoon tea and Pimm’s, what more could we ask for on a Sunday to celebrate 80 years! Thanks to everyone that supported.

Members went on to represent the county at the Royal Welsh show with some great results, and Lili will go forward to represent Pembrokeshire at the Malvern Autumn Show in September with her Floral Art display – good luck all!

With not even a weekend break we were straight into sports with juniors competing in the Frisbee and touch rugby team coming second in both.

Finally, we would just like to say a big thank you to all our helpers throughout the year, who take time out of their busy schedule to help us from rally and winter fair, flowers to tug of war, cookery, and stock judging, we could not have done it without you. We all work so well as a team, members, officials, leaders, helpers and parents and we hope to continue doing so next year. We would also like to extend our thanks to Pembrokeshire YFC for their help and support over the last year!

Llysyfran YFC

Well, what a year it has been for Llys-y-Fran YFC- another hectic one!

The year started with our AGM where it was agreed that our officials for 2021-22 would be Chairman Rhys Bevan, Vice Chairman Bethan Jenkins, Secretary Leia Burge, Assistant Secretary Ffion Kestin and Treasurer Steven James. Our Senior Member, Junior Member and Most Promising Member were awarded to Beth Williams, Branwen Vaughan and Nia Lewis jointly and Ffion Kestin. And our Attendance Cup was awarded to Beth Williams.

For our first club night after the AGM we arranged a calving live experience along with a farm tour at Pen Y Mynydd Mawr. We also decided to arrange a Tractor run, the proceeds of this day was split between Llysyfran YFC and RABI. Around 60 tractors turned up, ready to go on a 15 mile journey and made a profit of £1,444.

The eisteddfod soon came around, we competed in almost every competition, including solo’s, duets, groups and homework competitions. We worked as a team and we came 2[nd] overall.

November was a successful month for us, our annual Fireworks Night returned with a bang following the pandemic. We had a very successful night with 2000 people attending, we made a profit of over £3500. Around the corner was the Winter Fayre which was a success with a lot of our members taking part, giving 100% effort and again working as a team. We competed in every competition and we managed to gain 1[st] place overall.

Christmas got closer, we got our gladrags on and headed to the Queens Ball and had a very good night after not having a Ball due to the lockdown! We held our Christmas Fayre, again after not having a

Fayre because of the lockdown, we managed to have a successful night getting into the Christmas spirit with local businesses selling their produce and handmade items, we made a profit of £300. We then moved onto the English Public Speaking, we competed in every competition and we came 1[st] overall thanks to a few weeks of preparation for our members and trainers. A few of our members headed out to share the christmas spirit by going carol singing from door to door in Maenclochog, we managed to raise £220.

Into the New year we went, we arranged a variety of things, - New Years party at the Wolfe Inn, Armed Response Police Night, Bowling! The Welsh Public Speaking came around, we competed in every competition and we came 4[th] overall. We then moved onto practices in preparation for the Audience With competition.

Senior and Junior Member of the Year competition was held at County Level, and applications for queen, attendant and male ambassador opened, Carys Phillips was successful as 2022 Rally Queen. Our Quiz team managed to reach the semi final where they were knocked out by Keyston YFC.

In March we had our Audience With competition where we came together as a team once again and came 2[nd] place with Alys Owens winning Best Actress trophy. We arranged a YFC drop off collection for Ukraine where we collected medical supplies and essential supplies for the young children of Ukraine. We also were in preparation for the Field Day, there were many stock judging practices in full swing.

Field Day came around, we had been busy preparing and managed to come 2[nd] overall with a few 1[st] on the day – well done to everyone for their hard work. We also held

an Easter Service for our members and the public where we used our members talents during the service, we collected over a £100 for Gwastad Chapel. The Youth Forum held their Youth Forum Ball where our members got dressed up and attended the ball for a good night.

May was soon here, we organised a Dyno Day where we made a profit of almost £500, we raised money for Club and The DPJ Foundation. In between preperations for rally we held a joint club night with Templeton & South Pembs YFC to Heatherton. Rally was back, better than every. We managed to get a number of members back to compete in their favourite competitions. Thanks to everyone’s hard work, we came 3[rd] overall with a few members going onto the Royal Welsh to represent county.

Sports day was a fun day for our members competing in dodgeball, hockey, ultimate frisbee and touch rugby, the boys also took part in the rugby 7’s competition later on in the month. We also held our Hoedown where we got dressed up as cowboys and had a good night raising money for Club and Tir Dewi. We also held a sports day which was a successful day with a lot of young families coming to enjoy a sports day in the sun.

We started July with a fun night of slip and slide to cool off during the heatwave, we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! Treasure hunt is something that is familiar to Llysyfran YFC, 25 cars turned up to enjoy a night of scratching their heads.

Amongst all the activities, competitions and fun nights we have had we have also been undertaking major building works at our YFC Hall which has transformed our building. It is nearly finished and we look at being able to share this with past members and the local community in the near future.

Many of our members represented Pembrokeshire in a number of competitions at Wales and National levels. We are proud of our members for all their efforts this year and for everything they have accomplished.

Team work definitely makes the dream work and when we work as a team, we can achieve anything. Thanks to everyone who has supported the club over the last 12 months. Diolch yn fawr i bawb sydd wedi cefnogi y clwb dros y flwyddyn diwethaf.

Martletwy YFC

This year has been superb for Martletwy Young Farmers, back to normal again after an interrupted year, we hit the game running after ending last year on a high! We started off the year with Luke Watts and Tegan Davis staying on as Chairman and Vice-Chairperson, Kacy Hughes being elected as secretary, Rebecca Smith as assistant secretary and James Morgan as treasurer.

We started our year with a social game of rounders, followed by another social evening by having chips on the beach in Tenby before the weather got too cold. As a club we held a very successful new members evening at the beginning of October, went pumpkin picking at Good Hook Pumpkins and invited Clunderwen YFC to join us for a spooky pumpkin carving social night. We held a Halloween car treasure hunt where there were prizes for best costume and decorated car, the Nicholas Family won the treasure hunt. We also presented four cheques to local charities - Skybound Autism Therapies, Greenacres, MIND and Cancer Research Cresselly Branch.

At the beginning of November, we hosted the quiz against South Pembs YFC, a big thank you to our quiz master, Hywel Davies. We had a highly successful Winter Fair where we came 8[th] overall and our very own Sally Allen who was only 14 years old at the time came 1[st] in the U21’s Lamb Carcass judging! Throughout the rest of November, we had many socials, we went bowling and had a tour of Hackett dairy farm with Eglwyswrw YFC – Thank you to a previous member Tom Jones for the talk and the rest of the Jones Family for the fantastic hospitality. Just before Christmas we held our Christmas Quiz – thank you to Cresselly Cricket club for your kindness in letting us use the club. We also took part in

the Public speaking this year, thank you to Rachel Mathias, Jan Mathias, and Helen Nicholas for training the teams who were very successful with the Junior Team coming 6[th] , Junior Reading Team coming 4[th] , with Molly Brown placed 2[nd] and our Intermediate team placed 4[th,] with Kacy Hughes being asked to train for the county team. To wrap up the Christmas festivities we spent two evenings carol singing and raised further funds for this year’s chosen charity the DPJ Foundation.

We move to February next where we held a ‘show and tell’ night, where we had some interesting items for example, a score sheet from a Hand Milking YFC competition from 1948! Then in March we had a very informative talk from the DPJ Foundation, who spoke to us about the type of work they do and the work/support they do to help ‘sharing the load’ in the agricultural sector. At the end of the talk, we presented them with a cheque from the fundraising we did at Christmas. Then we had our ‘bring your pet to YFC’ night which was definitely a returning favourite from previous years where we had 9 dogs and even 2 lambs turn up. We hosted the indoor sports competition against Templeton YFC and held a games evening where we invited Fishguard YFC.

In April we celebrated our 75[th] anniversary with a dinner – thank you to The Plas Hyfred for the lovely food, DJ Dan Morgan for keeping the party going throughout the night and a thank you to Gaynor and Tania Hancock for the absolutely hilarious speech after our dinner. We also took part in county Field Day where we took part in Young Stockman of the year, Fferm Factor and Junior fencing, who came 2[nd] – thank you to Hamish Brown and Charles Harries for training the team, even in the cold weather.

This takes us to May with our outstanding results in Stock judging and specifically our Pony Stock Judging team who came 1[st!] - thank you to Emma Davies and Kate Kenniford for training the team. We entered various other pre-rally competitions, and another success carried our Junior Tug of War team through to Rally Day where we came 2[nd] – thank you to Hamish Brown and Charles Harries for training the team. We had a wonderful day at Rally where we came 10[th] overall. A big congrats to Fishguard for winning and to everyone else who took part.

In June we competed at the sports day in the junior rugby and junior frisbee where Harry Brown, Niamh Evans and Molly Brown were all asked to compete in the county teams. In July, our member Rebecca Smith got married to Hywel Davies from Fishguard YFC – a big congratulations to them both, I'm sure Fishguard will join us in saying we wish you both a long and happy future! We also supported Fishguard YFC with hosting their ‘Noson Lawen’ where we raised funds by providing light refreshments.

Furthermore, we had a wonderful time at the Royal Welsh Show with 3 out of the 4 girls from the pony stock judging team going to compete and our relay team competing too, they all had a wonderful time.

The members of Martletwy YFC would like to say a massive thank you to all our helpers along the way and also the parents and leaders for the constant support throughout this year, we all hope it continues into next year too, without any of you none of this would be possible. We would also like to extend our thank you to the County office team for the support this year. We hope to have just as successful of a year next year and we cannot wait to support all the other clubs along the way!

South Pembs YFC

After what has been another busy year for YFC, South Pembs has also been through one of its most exciting. After welcoming our new club leaders and officials at our 79th AGM, our new members night in September was attended by 15 new people and 10 existing members. Even though they were all under the age of 18, we were very pleased to see so many faces after a decline during covid.

During the first few weeks, we held club nights such as ‘Ready Steady Cook’ and ‘I’m a Young Farmer Get Me Out of Here’ both were fantastically well-supported and gave a good opportunity for all our members to socialise and meet new friends. In November we held an Introduction to Stock judging night and an Introduction to Public Speaking night where members took an active part and engaged in some of what YFC has to offer throughout the year. We organised a Bonfire Night and Christmas Bingo for families and friends to attend, as well as a Carol Service and two nights of Carol Singing, allowing us to raise money for club and donate £500 to charity.

At the Pembrokeshire Winter Fair, several new members competed for their first time in stock judging, decorating a Christmas tree and making a scarecrow competition which members really enjoyed! A mix of 7 existing and new members competed in the County round of public speaking, helping South Pembs to come 5th overall, where we also came first in the Brainstrust Competition and second in the Junior Public Speaking.

As spring came around, we teamed up with Templeton YFC to perform at the Pembrokeshire YFC ‘An Audience With’ competition, which after many rehearsals, we both came third overall, with both clubs also winning the trophy for the best costumes and one of our members winning “the Most Promising Junior performance!” To celebrate our members’ hard work and dedication, and to continue with South Pembs’ yearlong 80th celebrations, we all made and ate 80 scotch pancakes.

Three of our members from South Pembs entered, in a mixed team with others from Pembrokeshire, the Wales Public Speaking competition, coming third in the Brainstrust Competition, second in the Junior Public Speaking Competition and the best speaker award also being awarded to a South Pembs member. In April, our members competed in various Field Day competitions and one of our members also won Young Stockman of the Year, entering at Wales level as part of a team, coming 3rd overall!

To continue with our community work, members helped at our local Farmers’ Club Easter Breakfast, and helped at our Local Council’s Jubilee Event, where we held a small Tug of War competition and Welly Throwing. We managed to enter over 20 Pre-Rally and Rally Day competitions this year thanks to members and many people who helped to train, as well as being able to enter Tug of War and Group Singing, where we came third! As well as the usual stock judging, floral art, relay and Crafts, our members also came first in the Dressing-up a Leader, Capable Campers, and Scrapbook Competition, with many members who entered the rally for their first time!

During the warmer summer months, members enjoyed evenings such as rounders and s ’mores at the beach, picnics, and a sports day, as well as hosting a Pembrokeshire Youth Forum evening at Freshwater East.

To celebrate our 80th year we held an 80th dinner at the Begelly Arms Hotel, which was attended by many past Chairman and Secretaries, as well as our current officials - meaning we got some great photos.

At the Royal Welsh, our members competed once again, coming second in the Scrapbook and Capable Campers Competition, as well as coming first in the Dressing-up a Leader Competition.

At Pembroke Town and Country Show, our members in their new club hoodies, ran a South Pembs YFC tent alongside the Cows on Tour, and ran several activities such as paint/ glitter stencils, welly throwing and milking a cow, where our members and leaders hard work paid off as we won the Small Trade Stands trophy.

Overall, it has been a remarkably busy, yet fun year, and we are all looking forward for what is to come.

Gethin Lewis Club Chairman

Templeton YFC

With a return to some sort of normality following the Covid pandemic, we began the year by re-electing our official’s team from the previous year: Chairman – Dan Tulley, Secretary & Vice Chairman- Sam Rossiter, Treasurer & Club leader – Hannah Phillips, Club leaders – Matthew Davies and Owen Jackson.

Club nights this year have included many evenings of games and activists organised by individual members as we get used to meeting in person again. We visited Windsor farm pumpkin patch in Lamphey and the following week for halloween, dressed up and had a pumpkin carving competition.

Before Christmas we had a sugar craft lesson making a Santa cake topper topper. Members also enjoying Christmas dinner one evening in our village pub. In the new year, we enjoyed a night out bowling, an art night and later in the spring, a trip to Heatherton with Llys-y-Fran and south Pembs YFCs.

With the competitions calendar full again, we entered what we could, beginning with the winter fair, where a couple of members competed in the stockjudging. In the new year, we joined forces again with south Pembs YFC for the audience with entertainment competition. In field day we entered the cubed exhibit, auctioneering, and stockjudging. Hannah was placed 4[th] in the senior stock judging and progressed to Wales field day. Rally soon came around, with members having a go at what they could. Highlights were jack Burchmore winning the farm sign and Ellis Phillips wining the u16 Hereford stockjudging.

In the indoor sports, we had great success this year getting through to the semi-finals. Also, the knockout quiz we reached the second round.

together and raised funds for club. Between the events we also ran a Christmas hamper raffle again following its success from last year- these exceeded expectations and raised over £900 this year!

During the Christmas fair, we presented a cheque of £150 to Maddy Jervis – Maddy is a local girl who, took the brave decision to lose her leg in May 2020 to save her life from cancer, and now has plans to become a para equestrian athlete and compete in the Olympics. We were delighted to be able to contribute and help make her dreams and ambitions become reality.

In March, we held and Indian night in the village hall. With help on the food from the Templeton Community Association, members put on another fun evening to bring people from the community together. We raised a great sum of money and decided to donate £665 to the Disasters Emergency Committee’s Ukraine Fund. Members also helped out at the Community association’s cheese and wine evening, annual plant sale, and were involved in the Platinum Jubilees celebration in the village.

Many thanks to all those who supported Templeton YFC this year. We look forward to next year, celebrating our 50[th] anniversary.

We had a successful year holding events to fund raise. We held a Christmas fair in the village hall bringing in local crafters and businesses and serving festive refreshments. Two weeks later we also held a Christmas bingo. Both events brought the community

participated in Public Speaking where they did well in their categories.

Tiers Cross YFC

And just like that another year has flown by already! We kickstarted the new YFC year last September with our opening social, which saw new officials Charlotte and Amy organise an evening of fun and games for members and leaders. It was a great success with many new and old members attending.

The end of September saw a trip to Little Hasguard Dairy where we had a tour around the milk vending machine, we then went next door to the Farm Cottage Bakery where we saw Alice at work. Our members were extremely lucky sampling the doughnuts and went home with a bottle of milk each!

We were then into October; we hosted The County Harvest Festival in Tiers Cross Chapel; the service was conducted Rev Martin Evans. We were delighted to accept the donations given by each club which we donated to PATCH charity. The money raised in the collection (£147.40) was donated to Bowel Cancer UK. Several of our members attended the Rural Affairs Farm visit at Norton Farm, hosted by Joanna and Richard Hayman. We saw a few of our junior members attended the youth forum Halloween party, which was a great night by all. At the end of October, we had a club night of pumpkin carving where our members enjoyed carving their favourite Halloween characters.

November was here and first stop was a visit to Prendergast Butchers where members enjoyed a full tour of the butchers and learning about different cuts of meat. November was the first time we could all get dressed up by having our Club Dinner. The venue was at Allt Yr Afon, Wolfscastle where we danced the night away. Charlotte and Amy attended the Remembrance Service in Tiers Cross and laid a wreath on behalf of club.

December began and straight away we were in the festive spirit! As always, we had plenty of people wanting to come to the Queens Ball. A great night was had by all.

Due to COVID restrictions at the time we were unable to participate in our annual Christmas carol. Charlotte, Aled, Lucy, Tom and Lewis

The new year was off to a start. Our indoor sports team played Hermon away but unfortunately lost but a fun evening all in all. Due to covid restrictions we had a few club nights where members were happy to catch up over the Christmas break.

February came around and we were off to Windsor Farm in Lamphey. Members had a tour around the impressive sheep sheds. Our chairman even got her hands dirty and lambed a sheep.

Before we knew it, we were into the spring, and it was everyone’s favourite evening - pancake night. We saw some interesting pancake flipping skills to say the least. Field Day – we had team the senior fencing who came 3[rd] .

Preparations for rally starting with craft, cooking, tug of war and various other competitions. Our members made us very proud in the competitions they competed in. Outdoor sports came along, and we had a team in the men’s dodgeball and the rugby. Our member Ioan got chosen for the county team – we were very proud. We had a team in the Rugby 7s at Haverfordwest RFC, where they all had some fun running around the pitch.

To end the summer, we had a round of Frisbee golf at Clerkenhill farm and a tour of the airport at Haverfordwest Airport where our chairman showed the members around the planes. Our final club night for our outgoing chairman was getting lost around the Maize Maze, hosted by our club leader Richard Summons.

The Pavilion at the County Show ground has always been a popular venue due to its central location, easy parking and its ability to accommodate large groups in our contemporary style venue.

We provide facilities to suit all tastes and budgets within the three available halls. With our friendly and experienced team you can be assured of a successful, trouble free event.
