Trustee Report
Alm and purposes
The Parochlal Church Council of St Peter. Balsall Common I"PCC"I has the responslbllity of
promotlng withln the eccleslastlcal parish the whole mission of the Church, pastoral,
evangelistic, social, and ecumenical. The PCC is also responsible for the malntenance of the
church and church hall buildin8s and grounds.
Objertlves and Artlvltles
The PCC Is committed to ensurfng that as many residents of the parish as possible are able
to worship at the church. and to become part of our church community. The PCC'S
charitable objects are primarily focused on the advancement of rellgion, which 15 recognlsed
as a charltable purpose havin8 public benefit. All regular worship is provided free of charge
and Ss open to all. In additlon, the PCC'S activltSes include:
The provlsion of sacred space lor prlvate prayer and contemplation
Pastoral work. includin8 vislting the sick and the bereaved
Teaching of Chrlstianrty through sermons. courses and small groups
Takln8 of religious assemblies in schools.
Promoting the whole missh)n of the Church through provisK)n of •rtfvitles for parents and
babies and young children
Supporting Other charities In the UK and overseas
Provision and maintenance of a hall for re8ular public worship and other church actlvltles,
and also a5 a community facility available to all for recreational artNities when not In use by
the church
To facilitate our whole misslon It Is Important to malntaln the fabrlc of the church and the
hall.
The PCC has complled wlth its duty to have due regard to the House of Blshops. guldance on
the safeguarding of vulnerable adults and children (under section 5 of the Safeguarding and
Clergy Discipline Measure 2016). Alison Bennett Is appolnted Safeguardin8 Officer.

Achlevements and Perforniance
Mlnlstry
The Reverend Suzy Pearson is our vicar, and assisted by Moira Johnson, Alison Bennett and
Chris Price as readers. and Mary Partridge as a lay leader of famify services.
Worship and Prayer
St Peter's embraces dlverse worship styles, providing traditional and informal services
alon85ide special events for all ages. We also offer onllne access to our ser4ices held in
Church. to allow us to reach a wider audience, including those unable to visit in person due
to illness or infirmity. Key services include weekly Sunday services with a mix of formats,
lay-led services focused on ac￿ssibIlIty, and community en8agement sessions.
Readers, lay leaders and volunteers play crucial roles In service delivery and pastoral care.
We actlvely collaborate with other local churches through Joint services and communlty
events, fosterlng cooperation and support.
We contlnue praylng for our work wlth the children and their parents and for more new
people to loln our con8re8ation. Thanks to a 8rant from Knowle United Charitles, we hope
to expand our work with local secondary sch(x)I pupils in 2026.
Throughout 2025 we have continued to offer the mlnistry of occasional offices. baptisms,
weddSngs, funerals and burfal of ashes services, which are slgniflcant occaslons for many
members of the parish and beyond. In particular, we held the funerals of several long-
standing and much-loved members of the congregation. We remember with grateful
affettion their loyal sep4ice to this church.

Church Centre
This year we continued to open the church daily, for all who seek a place for quiet
contemplatlon and prayer. St Peterfs continues to hold drop-in Warm Hub sessions on
Thursday afternoons.
The hall is used not only for church events but Is hired out to a range of community groups,
including exercise, drama and activities for the retired, as well as being available for prlvate
partles. Thls year we carrled out a survey of hall users on how they use the hall, and what
Improvements they hope to see. We are lookin8 to raise funds to carry out these
improvements in 2026.
Pastoral
We or8anlse several groups who meet regularly to learn rnore about Christlanity, ask
questions and express fears and doubts in a safe environment. Each group has a dlfferent
audlence and structure, so that as many as Possible can attend one or more. Home
comrnunlons are also available for the sick and housebound.
Mlsslon and Evangellsm
We have a small but active branch of the Mothers, Unlon at St Peters, who take part in
actlvltles such as knlttlng clothes for premature babies, and blankets and teddles. A weekly
group called TeenyTinies andToddlers meetsdurin8 the school termsto provlde 5UPPOrt and
company for parents and carers of pre-school children. We also run a monthly tea party,
alongside the Warm Hub. providin8 a friendly place to meet, partlcularly for older members
ofour communlty, We fundraise on a regular basis forThe Chlldren'ssociety, including at the
annual Christingle service. We have continued to collect food and other essentials for Helpln8
Hands, a local food bank.
We are actlve on Facebook, and we have a church webslte where people can contact and
connect wlth the church. In addition, we have a YouTube channel, where members of the
con8regation. and others who would not normally attend church, may access recordln8s of
our service5, along with activitie5 for families.

Ecumenical Relationshlps
We are members of Churches Together in Balsall and Berkswell, joining With other churches
in the area for coffee mornings. Lenten breakfasts. and other soclal activities, as well as
fundralslng for local and intematbonal charities.
Volunteers
The church would be unable to function without the hard work and dedication of a band of
volunteers, and the PCC would like to place on record our heartfett thank5 to them all.
Chf15tine Hornsby retired as Churchwarden this year. and the PCC wish to thank her for all her
work for the church, and for the hall during many years of faithful service.
Structure. Governance and Management
The method of appointment of PCC members Is set out In the Church Representation Rules.
The current Incumbent is ex officio chair of the PCC, and the Churchwardens and Deanery
Synod members are ex officio members of the PCC. Other members are elected to the PCC
by members of the electoral roll at the Annual Parochlal Church Meeting and may also be co-
opted durlng the year. Members of the con8regatlon are actively encoura8ed to re8lSter on
the elertoral roll, and to stand for membership of the PCC.
The PCC are responsible for maklng all declslonsconcernlngthe 8eneral running of the church.

discussed a ran8e of issues includin8 Safeguardin& discussing the Dioce5e'5 "People and
Places" inltiative, and fundraising. The Standin8 Commlttee, comprlslng of the Incumbent,
Churchwardens, Honorary Secretary and Honorary Treasurer also meet outside PCC meetings
when there are urgent issues to discuss. There are also several sub-groups which meet on a
regular basis, such as the Premlses Committee, which are 8ranted powers to make declslons
on the bulldln8s and to report back re8ularlyto the maln PCC.

accounts In accordance with the Charities Art 2011 {°the 2011 Acff ). I report In respect of
my examination of the Trusvs accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Art and in
carrying out my examination, I have followed all the appllcable Dlrertlons glven by the
Charlty Commission under section 1451Sllb} of the Act

I have completed my examinatk*n. I confirm that no material matters have come to my
attentlon In connertlon wlth the examlnation which gives me cause to believe that in, anv
materlal respect:

The accounts for the year show a surplus of incoming to outgoin8 resour￿5 for the year of
£14.775 as opposed to a surplus of £2,394 in the previous year. However. £3,CD) was
8ranted for work with secondary school children in 2026. and £9,896 was granted for
additlonal solar panels and battery storage for the hall. which will be spent in 2026.
Incomln8 Resources
Voluntary givin& excluding le8acies, increased by £21,415. This includes the grants
mentioned above, plus grants of £IO.(XKI to allow for the repair of the fleche. The increase
of £8,202 in Income from charitable activities Is due to higher income from fundralsin8,
parlsh fees and hall lettings.
Expendlture
Day-tfrday runnlng costs are generally under control. although there were Increases in
utllity costs of £1.269 and Increased costs of malntenance. We increased our voluntary
additional payment to Common Fund by £2,CKI). We repaired the fleche on the church roof
at a c05t of £12.000.
Reserves Pollcy
We aim to keep at least £22.0(K) (three month5. running costs) In reserves. In additlon to
restricted reserves of £13,555 at 31 December 2025. we are also holding funds to cover the
costs of necessary improvements to the hall in 2026.
Flxed assets
Consecrated and benefice property Is not Induded In the accounts. In attordance with slo
of the Charlties Act 2011.
Moveable church furnlshings held by the Incumbent Vicar and the Churchwardens on
special trust for the PCC and which require a special faculty for disposal are inallenable
church property, Ilsted In the Church's terrier whlch can be inspected at any reasonable
tlme.
Equipment used on the Church p￿miseS Is capitalised rf it Is over £S,1Th) and written off
over a 5-year perlod.

I) ACCOUNnNG POUCIES
The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the Church Accountin8
Regulatlons12(K)61 tO8ether with applicable accounting stsndards and the SORP IFRS1021.
The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the historical cost
convention. The financial statements contain all transartlons. assets and liabllities for whlch
the PCC is responsible in law.
Funds
Restrlrted funds represent donations or grants received for a spetifit purpose and may only
be expended on the specific object for which they were given. Any surplus of income over
expendlture must be carrled forward to the followln8 year, to be expended on the same
object.
Unrestrlcted funds represent donations or grants whlch may be used for the Pctrs ordinary
purposes.
Incornlng ruources
Planned 8Svlng, collertions and donations are accounted for when they are recelved. Tax
refunds are accounted for when they are received. Grants and legacles are accounted for
when they are received. All Incomin8 resources are accounted for gross.
Expendlture
Donatlons are accounted for when they are awarded. The Cornmon Fund Is accounted for
when It15 due. All other Ilabllltle5 are recognlsed when they are due and are attounted for
gross.
