Purpose: The objective of the Gwernymynydd Village Centre is to provide facilities for recreation, learning and leisure for the benefit, advancement and social welfare of the residents of Gwernymynydd & Cadole and district.

Structure and management: Gwernymynydd Village Centre is a charitable incorporated organisation created in July 2019. The committee of voluntary trustees meets monthly, striving to manage and maintain the Centre in accordance with the constitutional objectives, to provide a safe and properly regulated environment for its users and an attractive facility for hire. New trustees are appointed by election or co-option and complete an Eligibility Declaration on induction, also being provided with the Constitution and guiding documents.

Summary of the main activities : The Centre is used for such activities as Community Council meetings, a Remembrance Sunday Service, football games and coaching, Pilates and exercise classes, choral groups, indoor bowling, residents’ celebratory parties, a monthly Coffee Morning and an annual Pantomime, thus providing a varied programme well-aligned with the objectives.

In addition, and supported by a Community Council grant, the Charity is instrumental in the production of a bimonthly village newsletter which informs on local issues and events, continuing to provide communication in print to reach the community as a whole and to maintain inclusivity for those not orientated to seek information online.

Public benefit : with due consideration to the economic climate, hire fees were not increased at the beginning of the year, whilst the provision of financial reliefs or grants to various community activities continued, adhering to the Charity Commission’s guidance concerning public benefit. In addition, the trustees pursued a programme of inspection, repair and upgrading of the premises to meet risk management objectives. To this end, an Electrical Installation Condition report was commissioned, resulting in the need for extensive corrective works; chimney repairs were required; external lighting was upgraded to a sensor-activated, safe and energy-efficient specification; renovation of the changing room showers was part-funded to facilitate greater sporting activity, and substantial, old and unsafe trees were felled. The rebuilding costs were reassessed to ensure appropriate insurance cover.

Amalgamation : the year saw the amalgamation of the charity Gwernymynydd Village Hall Fund (‘VHF’), Charity No. 501985, with the GVC in April 2025. The monies (an initial incoming sum of £18566.06) remain ring-fenced within the GVC holdings and with a dedicated sub-committee, that it may continue to support the local residents according to the original VHF aims, overseen by the GVC committee.

Financial review : Income was received through the hire of the Village Centre to local residents and the wider general public who wish to carry out activities there; from support from the Gwernymynydd Community Council and, in this year only, from the VHF monies transferred in. A 15% fall in hire income, coupled with major expenditure, resulted in a 20% fall of GVC holdings, while the VHF sub-committee made generous grants, notably to assist the Community Council in completing play area renovations and to improve equipment and services for the Gwernymynydd Pantomime Group, resulting in a similar 22% fall.
